this might be the longest train in the USA or worlds longest double stack container train but the official longest train ever was a mining train recorded in Australia
Sorry but the record is an Aussie one.... a BHP Iron ore train - June 21, 2001 in Western Australia - it was 7.353 km (4.568 miles) long....other than that.. who cares?
I happen to live in Chicago.. But the UPRR has broken one record as far as i know "Worlds longest train was not infact a UP it was something like Vortex had commented
This is not the longest train ever. when they were developing the ability to control multiple engines from the only the front engine they hooked up a train of empty mining cars, something like 7 miles long. there's a video of it on here somewhere.
Run on 21 June 2001, comprising 682 wagons and hauled by eight 6000 hp General Electric AC6000CW diesel-electric locomotives controlled by a single driver with a total length of 7.353 km on the 275 km iron ore railway to Port Hedland in Western Australia – total weight 99,734 tons

@trainboy437 u idot it says union pacific on the freacking side of the locomotives unionpacific is in the usa not australia plus bhp is blue and yellow not just yellow.
@duffy1285 Your the fucking idiot. I see "Union Pacific" written there. Another user who posted the comment below is talking about BHP's train which is officially the world's longest train. OK, idiot?
This train isn't the record for longest train in the world, but it is the record for North America. UP organized this train in order to test the new GEVO's with multiple DPU's.
Very Impressive but I have run freights on Norfolk Southern at over 10,000 feet and remember CP Rail bringing a train into our yard from Windsor Canada at 13,000 feet with 3 SD40-2s. Trains have no ending lenght. As we speak there are dozens of trains out there that are over 3 miles. Sometimes railroads will put two trains together if the are short on motive power. The worlds longest train on record was in Australia at about 6 miles long and pulled by 8 BHP AC6000CWs. Check it out on YouTube.
As others have stated; maybe longest in America, but America isn't necessarily the bad ass, biggest of everything it used to be.
Sonsofbitches in the States would howl at 4 mile long trains. Massive dam? Hell no! Mega-airport? FU! Longest bridge? Suck my!
Lots of resistance, some of it legit, some bogus; you may be conned - American America again.
Long live the MF that pulls harder and breaks the trail so you don't have to guess as much.
