  • "His strength and courage is on a level most can only dream about" Yeah the poor boy was forced to go through that without sedation and be held down. I hope his parents will get off their soap box of how proud they are of hi and allow there little boy to have sedation. That is cruel.

  • He is brave and I feel so sorry for him to have to endure that terrible pain. His mommy is also telling him no pain. Yeah right! I hope and pray his mommy and daddy allow him to be sedated if he had to have it again. Poor baby. I can't imagine having something like that done and being held down so you can't move. Be nice if the parents could have a Spinal Tap with no sedative.

  • Everybody, I understand that for a kid his age (and well everybody that needs to do this) should be put to sleep, sedated, or given local anesthetic, but the Doctor was being so nice to him! And this will help find out anything that's wrong. And if they find that out, they might have something for it! So I know it was hard for him, but just think of the good things.

  • Every doctor in excistins

  • Doctors are stupid

  • I hope they gave him a toy or a reward for being so brave!

  • I remember getting this done,I cried and I am an adult,It hurt, but when they were done all I could say was,Thank u Jesus!!!

  • Comment removed

  • The Peace of God, let us pray much for him, and I have faith in God through Jesus Christ that it will improve ..

  • @andrearcanjo1 Amen and Amen!!!! This poor baby!

  • Que Deus abençõe essa criança.

  • Oh my lord. This poor child. This is the cruelest thing. Why on EARTH would they not sedate him? I hope the child is doing well now. Be strong kiddo<3

  • Not trying to pry,but I have a link I would like to send to you my email is phil76parker at g mail

  • How is your boy now?

  • This made me cry

  • What IS that metal thing that the physician has on his back? Is that some kind of automatic needle injector? I take it they can't just poke it in like any other I.V. or blood test needle?

  • what a brave boy....not cruel at all its what had to be done....

  • @lilmizzxdestiny

    did i ask u?

    noo!

    pls stfu, ok??

  • does everyone have to get a spinal tap? please answer

  • Even if they can't use general anestetic or sedation they could AT LEAST use a topical local like lidocaine (sp?). It just rubs over the area and numbs it. COME ON! GET REAL!

  • JCs your the bravest boy I have Ever seen I scream when I get a needle I'd NEVER let a doctor do that to my back even if I was asleep oh yay and why weren't u asleep❔❔❔ you so brave I give u 20 thumbs up👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍

  • The saddest part is there ARE -despite what the drug companies want us to know- natural herbs that will CURE anything (yes I mean that literally). Because of their love of drug profits these companies don't care what people go through! People are so brainwashed today that everything needs a pill! Not to turn this into a theological debate but the way I see it Someone already gave us everything we need -who knew what He was doing better than we do! If only we'd put our %$#@ pride aside & admit it

  • @strikerk

    jsut shut up!!

i know well that they hace asence!

but the mum could help him. couldnt she??

hes screaming for heer and shes doing nothing!!!!

    ur an idiot urself !!!

  • @piecendfunable

shut up cuz their was nothin she could do so ur an idiot

  • This is not cool to see, Hope the kid is fine at the moment

  • @melanieadkins I got one around thT age. I didn't have leukemia but the reason I wasn't put to sleep was because of the medication I was on at the time. Maybe it's the same for him?

  • He screams like a bitch

  • @xtcmora You seriously do not deserve to be breathing right now. He is a 4 year old kid battling Leukemia. How could somebody be so heartless?

  • Everyone in this video is now on my "Bravest People I Know" list.

  • My daughter was diagnosed with high risk ALL leukemia. She is put to sleep when she gets her spinal taps. Were they not able to be put to sleep in 2008?

  • @melanieadkins guess not. oh man poor kid.and i thought a needle in the arm was bad enough. youch!

  • It seemed like once the needle was in place he was more content, I think it was the anticipation of the needle that made him scream and cry. Regardless, I hope that JC has a quick recovery and never has to do anything like that again!

  • They don't always sedate for this procedure...it's not cruel. The kid did very good. Imagine how many things he HAS to be sedated for having cancer. I 8min spinal tap doesn't seem worth it. He was fine afterwards.

  • just saying, it doesnt hurt to give the id a relaxant or some No2 does it poor kid, hurt and scarred forever!

  • ive had one, and i had it to without any anesthetic. that doctor should be commeneded for his kindness and reassuring the little boy. I have had it done a second time requesting local anesthetic but it didnt work, poor kid xxx

  • This pains me immeasurably to see kids go through this. I really wish there was a less invasive way to get cerebral spinal fluid. My heart goes out to his young boy, i hope you get better.

  • Ugh just reading the comments makes my back hurt

  • Doctor, do you have any tips on preventing movement in anxious children? Having then move with the needle mid stream would be quite disastrous!

  • it sounds soo painful!

i swounder how the mum can be soo calm while her child is crying & screaming like that!

if it was me, would go crazy!

i couldnt bear it, if my child dould have pain & me just standing there & doing nothing!

i think i dould have beaten up the doctor!

    how cruel he is!!

and noone consoles the poor boy!!

he screams 4 his mu, but she doesnt even try to hug him!!

    how idiotc some people are!!

  • @piecendfunable You're pretty idiotic yourself. You think this is a torture session or something? They're not doing a damn spinal tap for nothing, genius.

  • It maybe cruel but it fixes you up, pain is temporany, results are forever

  • this is so cruel I can't believe it Why don't they knock him out!

  • @themooster23 you can't sedate for a procedure like this because it is so close to the spine, the patient has to be fully conscious to notice if a problem arose with the spinal chord! it is horrible but has to be done unfortunately! poor lil creature he's such a brave kid! xo

  • Poor kid, sucks that he has to go through this! God bless him! But doesn't the doctor know that crack kills? lol, gotta lighten the mood a bit :)

  • Oh God bless you all. That is horrible to put the child through that. Poor little guy. I am glad he is better.

  • how is he doing now?

  • Who's the girl in the plaid jacket??

  • @labbie87 she is the assistant that helps the doctor most likely the nurse it take 2 people to do the testing (one for taking the spinal fluid and another to told the persona who is getting the test done) if you dident know that already XD

  • @bmcgee136557 person*

  • what is a spinal tap anyways

  • @crazyboyliam they are collecting his spinal fluid

  • If there is a definition of agony this is it, i'm seventeen and I passed out.

  • 2:07 looks like he put alot of pressure in pushing it in him

  • bambino meraviglioso

  • That's exactly what I would do and I'm like 10 years older.

  • the poor boy if he is crying they must hert but i don't know i never had one and i hope i never do.

  • Lay on your back whilst watching this preferably on a portable device

  • Aw, that poor boy. Spinal tap's are extremely painful and he was awake the whole time!! :(

  • ya'll should have put him to sleep. yall are cruel . im 12 . i had mine last year , & they put me to sleep i feel sorry for him ...

  • Poor kid does the cleaning stuff hurt?

  • @TheDogfan11 no...at least it shouldnt!! It's just cold I think! If you put iodine (the red stuff) on an open wound then HELL yeah that would hurt but just for cleaning purposes it's fine!

  • This is why I dont believe in a God. Church of any religion is a Leech that sucks up money and offers not one fix to any of lifes problems. I gotta do this in just 4 hours. Im scared and Im 37. This lil soldier gave me what I needed. Strength. If he can do this. I can too.

  • I hope the best for this little guy. How excruciating for the parents to try and remain calm and positive for their sons when their hearts are breaking while watching their son scream in pain. The best to the entire family. I feel for them all.

  • FUCKING CRAZY,CRUEL ARE PETS GET SEDATED FOR GOD SAKES!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

  • WHIMP! WHIMP! WHIMP!

  • I'm just curious but why didn't they give him anesthesia? This is terrible to watch, I feel so bad for him.

  • I had Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia when i was 2-4 1/2 and I was given Fentanyl before my spinals. I cant imagine having this done without anesthesia. Im 19 now and doing very well. I was part of an 18 year study of the latent effects of childhood chemotherapy. If you want information regarding the research please pm me.

  • I am a nurse in a Children's Hospital in St. Louis. We put all of our oncology kiddos to sleep for LP's with chemo. This is just cruel.

  • @jaenshaesmom I have a feeling this was from years ago....

  • I know how he feels I get them every month and I cry everytime. I 20 and fighting cancer. God bless you and your family

  • OMG, I had this done at 1:00am Monday morning, UGH it hurt! :(

  • This is the first spinal tap I have ever seen and it sounded frickin painful O_O

  • Really brave. But what i would like to know, is what in the world was that tool that he pushed up against his back first?

  • the parents did good i would have been freaking out

  • Update on JC. Thank you for all your thoughts, opinions, prayers and respect. JC is now 7 years old and still battling Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia with just over a year remaining is his treatment. While I know this video can be difficult, I want to again thank everyone for continuing to watch and be educated on what those impacted by blood cancers deal with daily. Please continue to share your thoughts with respect, as this video has be a resource for many around the world. Kindest regards, M

  • damn, thats what i'm gonna have to do :P

  • aw im definitely praying for him!!!! He is so adorable!

  • haha i had mine yesterday ; they had to do it three times cause they kept on messing up ; it didn't hurt ; just think of happy thoughts ; i thought about my boyfriend lmao....it doesn't hurt. just weird feeling.

  • What a sweet heart (:

  • awww, I'm happy he recovered shortly after and gave a high five.

  • Aww, the poor little lad! I just wanted to hold him when I heard him start to cry, & let him know that it's all right! It's not fair that young & innocent children like JC are stricken with a serious illness that require such an invasive & painful procedure! May God's LOVE embrace this brave little trooper, & all the little children who are facing catastrophic illnesses!

  • Want to send my wishes and prayers to JC and his family. Get well soon buddy, you have your hole life to live.

  • i gotta go have a spinal tap done and i'm really scared, but i know that if he can do it, i can so thank you JC for helping me get over my fear :) *hugs*

  • @PurpleBlah10k I had it done last year. It sucked really bad. The doc couldent get any fluid out so he had to do it twice. Im 18 and if there is anyway not to get that done again i would take it. Not trying to scare yea just saying dont take it to lightly. And after that they ushally make you lay down for an hour and not move, witch also sucks. But goodluck just dont move when there doing it. lol

  • @JRobb856 Um..omg okay the fear has officially set in again O.O I seriously hope i dont have to get it done more than once D: And thanks for the advice! :)

  • I could feel that needle in my back just watching. JC is stronger, and braver, than I could ever be. I cried like a fool when I had my epidurals lol. But, I do agree that he SHOULD have been sedated and that he should not have been allowed to get right up off the table. I also agree that the procedure should have been done in a sterile ER where drastic measures could have been taken if an emergency would have occurred.

  • Why isn't he sedated?? Dear god... -___-

  • AGAIN unbelievable what DISASTEROUS events you provoke, any little patient like this is traumatized for life...he needs to clearly be sedated each and every time this proceedure is being performed...what about sterile work...terrible OFFICE.. DISGUSTING... you should be ashamed to post this...UNBELIEVABLE.....what are you trying to get at??? Are you trying to show bad medical practise?????

  • JC,

    Get well soon.

  • jc you will be in my spraires your a brae little boy feel better . your so cute get well soon

  • poor baby. i cried worse than he did when i had this procedure and im 18.. its sucky and scary for anyone. my heart goes out to this little fella

  • Any update on JC? Hopefully he is back in remission?

I just had to write and say that I am praying for him and his family and treatment team. That Dr. and nurse did an amazing job with him! And I can tell he has the best parents a little guy could ask for. Such a heartfelt video... he is so precious and I hope he is doing well!

  • @PsychNut11 Thank you for your kind words and prayers. JC is still currently battling and has just over a year in his second round of treatment. He has doing very well and is now 7.

  • why do they show his ass

  • @averynbenjamin Ummm... maybe because he is just a baby and they needed for his pants not to touch a sanitized area? He is what 3 years old? It's still cute baby hiney! He was such a big boy... who cares if we saw a little of his hiney?

  • Wow, this brought me to tears. God bless this little man and his family. Hope he is well again.

  • wow this brought me to tears. God bless this little man and his family.

  • I have to get one on Friday and I am so terrified, any advice? I do horribly with pain...

  • Its all right you'll be okay .

  • 痛そうで全部みれなかった(;_;)

  • God!! What a 'lil trooper.

  • poor baby, i had to have a spinal tap when i had a csection and it was so scary for me i can't imagine a child :(

  • Crap i watched this cuz i thought this was from the band

  • i feel so bad for him this made me cry :'(

  • poor kid... i feel so bad for the lil niqqa

  • I get one tomorrow, I am terrified...

  • @12upgig18 How did it go?

  • poor kid

  • u guys are assholes and terrible parents

  • @MrIlovemyguitar how they either have to get this done or let their child die

  • Omg its a very hard thing to watch they had a spinal tap done one my daughter too but she was sedated! I really hope ur son is doing good

  • such a brave little guy!

  • This is a brave, kid. WOW!

  • omg...that boy is a brave boy!

i cried wen i see he stopped crying n brave enuf to let the doc did the lp..

  • To his parents and family: JC's bravery is extraordinary, but yours must not go unnoticed. To sit through and watch your innocent child be subjected to such torture must have been excruciating, and for getting through that with positive attitudes, you are all my heroes.

  • poor little boy... is he ok now? please

  • ohmygoodness this is so painful to watch!!!

  • poor boy i just want to hold u i remember my 3 year old little bro getting a spinal tap he was crying his lungs after it was done he called my name and i picked him up and held him all day he fell asleep in my arms then i put him in his bed and he started crying again he ask me to keep him in my arms and since then he would not stop asking me to hold him

  • Omg y on earth did u record and post this???? Ues he's strong but geezus cripes nobody enjoys children sufferung!

  • pobrecito auchh

  • I have a special prayer for him as the doctor does the procedure. He felt the needle. It hurt.

  • awww bless him! i hope he gets better tell him i send my love! also i had this prceedure done last week and im only 10! but he was well braver than me!

  • I had a spinal tap when I was three because I had a severe ear infection. I was too out of it to cry or anything. I really felt for this beautiful little boy. It angers me that children get cancer and have to suffer. It's so disturbing. Anyway, I really hope that he was held and snuggled after this, for a long time and reassured that everything would be ok. I just wanted to hold this child and tell him that everything would be alright.

    -Tiff

  • that stuff hurts i had 3 and after the frist one i had them put me to sleep i have had luekima for 2 yars and am 11

  • So, this is his spinal tap? Wow! He looks a bit sad. I think he doesn't like the cold stuff.

    Is he OK? It's dripping.

  • Is he OK? Our prayers for JC will be sent.

  • Poor baby! what a trooper he's a power ranger alright. Get him something special for doing so good.

  • This sweet sweet boy has more guts in him than I do. I pray his cancer will respond to treatment, and he will always be an inspiration to me!

  • He was a trooper and he gets Power Rangers.

  • i had thsi done after i had my baby girl and man it hurts alot...i cant imagine this boy taking the pain..i actually cryed watching this

  • wats a spinal tap it looked painful???

  • Also, he deserves a ton of candy.

  • They don't have to do a spinal tap if they think you have a brain tumor right? Because I read the symptoms and I actually feel a bump on the left side of my head. I hope to God that he's OK.

I also would like to know is if you had a lumbar puncture, is it a one time thing or can they do it as many times as they need to.

  • what a brave kid! I would be screaming if a punturer went anywhere near my lumbar, because I here about all the things that go wrong with it and I'd be freaked out.

  • i am praying for jc i hope he makes a wonderful recovery. god blesss you jc. YOU ARE A FIGHTER NEVER FORGET THAT.

  • wow u r sooo brave ur amazing

  • outch :( I feel so sorry :(

  • Best wishes to JC and his family. I think he weathered the procedure very, very well. Mom looked more emotionally bent then he did afterwards! (Rightfully so of course). Good luck.

  • I wanted to let everyone know that JC went into remission back in May. However, in Dec 09, 3yrs after being diagnosed, JC came out of remission. He has begun treatment again and is responding well. Please continue to share your comments, thoughts and prayers for JC and his family. This video is here to shed light on what those battling blood cancers have to overcome. JC is 5 now and is a fighter. His mom and I are members of Team In Training and run marathons in his honor.

  • omg i am so sorry to hear that. I will pray for him and i will ask my church to do the same. Tell JC to keep fighting and that god is on his side. my prayers go out to your family. GOD BLESSSSSSS YOU JC.

  • @megsytnick I will keep him in prayer.

  • @megsytnick

Brave little boy, indeed! I would love to know if there is a Caring Bridges site or something similiar for JC? JC and his family are in my prayers, We all take for granted having healthy children. May God bless JC and his family! Thank you for sharing, otherwise I would never have known to pray for this family....regardless of the outcome since this was posted.

  • this is sssoooo mean ppooorrr kid i feel sssooo sorry 4 him :(

  • It should be illegal to do this kind of thing without sedation as they have medications that can knock you out for about 30 minutes with no bad side effects afterward.

  • @Thundralight they did the exact same thing to me when i was 9 yrs old. there are reasons why they cant "knock you out".

  • bless your angel

  • What did he use in 2:08?

  • I had a spinal tap done to me a few years back and it was done by a student while the doctor watched on. The damn bitch went too far to the left and made my entire left leg go pins and needles for about 3-5 seconds lol . Oh the good times.

  • OMG i had one and the dr / nurse thing (lol) got it worng 3 times so i had to stay in overnight at xmas (the one jst gone) and the next a different dr came and did it right and we're mates now XD

  • he was one brave little boy. i will keep I him in my prayers

  • o my god i am like crying. this is so sad. i will keep him in my prayers

  • When Hurricane Charley came to Fl. about two weeks later I had got Viral Meningitis from a misqutio that bit me. They had to do a spinal tap on me and I was 9. OMG that shit hurt, I remember getting mad at my mom for not telling the doctors to put me to sleep or something cause for those 2 minutes (to what seemed, to me, be 8 freaking hours) was like a trip to hell and back.

This little kid, I give him all my prayers for being the braviest little boy I have ever layed my eyes on. God Bless.

  • He had local anaesthesia which is enough for him not to be as comfortable as possible during the actual spinal needle insertion...

Use of general anaesthesia and even sedation may bring more adverse effects.

  • Sorry for the typo, I mean for him TO BE AS COMFORTABLE as possible...

  • with leukemia, spinal taps are often done weekly. it's too dangerous to put babies to sleep that often, or even to sedate them. they do often use topicals now beforehand, thank goodness.

  • @briarcliffe711

If you do that it messes with the fluid which can be tested for 100% diagnose actually not even 10% diagnose

  • @briarcliffe711 Because you must be awake. If you jerk or anything you run the risk of them paralyzing you, and you need to be awake because your gonna feel it if they go the wrong way.
