Interesting bowdlerized version of Dr. Dave's "Vanna, Pick me a Letter". Also, I wonder why they had to edit in the $5,000 and Car wedges, instead of ya know, using actual footage of $5,000 and the prize wedge.
I think the guy singing this promo is the same guy that did the Saints "Bless You Boys" promo. If it is, his name is Greg Barnhill, native of Slidell, LA.
I remember this! The song itself was a parody of the Box Tops song "The Letter" and written and performed by Weird Al Yankovic. It's not Weird Al singing here, though.
WWL had Wheel of Fortune all the way back in '83 when syndication started, and it had Jeopardy from the start in '84. It also had the highest-rated local version of PM Magazine in those days. I'm kind of surprised CBS has allowed WWL to preempt so much network programming in favor of local specials through the years like political debates, hurricane coverage, and the Saints, but I guess the higher ups in NYC don't want to lose the nation's number one rated local affiliate.
By the way, WOF is no longer on WWL-TV; both Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy! (another fixture on Channel 4) moved to WVUE once the contract with WWL expired.

The tune is based on The Box Tops' "The Letter."
