  • One of the most memorable songs ever written

  • @Thedanner1000 In my opinion this song and "Bewitched, Bothered, and Bewildered" are among the greatest songs of all time.

  • None of those women singers mentioned could not even hold a candle to Keely Smith !!

  • There's a slightly different version by Ella Fitzgerald......more lyrics at the beginning.

  • Thia, this song, like many from the 30s and 40s, had an introduction. Not all singers include it. Frank Sinatra and Linda Ronstadt did, as well as Ella.

  • @thiaanthony

That "introduction" that catman was telling you about is called a "verse". It's what a lot of the old-time songwriters used to set the stage for the rest of the song. Sinatra, Ella, Tony Bennett, Nat Cole and many others are famous for singing the verses to many great songs.

  • Thanks beeshor1. Yes, and I think it certainly adds something special. I've just found a Johnny Mathis version of "A Certain Smile".

  • I liked other singers back in the 40's, I actually saw her and Louis Prima one time in Providence, RI back in 1944 or but I appreciate Keely more than before. Thanks for your contributions.

  • It could not have been in 1944 because Keely did not make her professional debut until 1949.

  • My apologies. I was wrong about Keely but it was Louis. Thank you.

  • Its kind of cool because my name is Keely. It is spelled the same as Keely Smith. I have never heard her sing before just her name. =]

  • Well, now that you have heard her song, what do you think of her, Keely?

  • I like it. I am a cuntry fan but her voice is so soothing and gives me a warm feeling. =]

  • Listen to her other songs which I have posted. You will not be disappointed.

  • Ok. I probably won't be disappointed. I looked at others but I can't remember what they were called. :)

  • Beautiful both the song composed by George Gershwin one of my favourite composers and the singer not forgetting Nelson Riddle. THANK YOU for posting

  • It's a pleasure to post for you Maureen.
