Very very very nice video!!! A definite inspiration to all flight simmers regardless of whether they use xplane or fs. May i ask what your specs are? and what video editing software you use? THANKS!!
wow thanks for the info! :D just wondering, are you recording your flight in real time or are you recording the replay of the flight? (if that even makes sense? lol)
Bla bla bla... Why every video has some idiot talking about how FSX is better or worse. How about going out and taking some aviation classes instead? Then maybe you can appreciate the point of using a simulator (not a game) to stay sharp.
@olahaldorvoll I have both. There is no difference besides the fact FSX is more user friendly and X-Plane has working FMCs. And for the landing, just saying.
I use fraps and of course the in "quick time" but I never get sound. What video capture program do you use to get better movie capture quality and in game sound? Please tell thank you!
@Chazzy630 I use fraps. Make sure you have selected the feature to record system sounds in Fraps. That makes Fraps record any sounds you can hear through your speakers or headset.
The only problem I have w/ MU2 is that night landing are incredibly hard w/ all ILS support. I always get disoriented as the runway may not be visible unless you are very close...
@HESXENON The colors have been adjusted just a little bit, and I've added a smooth "glowy" look to it. Other than that, there's been nothing extra. The graphics are entirely like they're in-game. Clouds cast shadows on planes, buildings and the ground, water reflections are far better than in FSX, and I feel flying is more fluid while in FSX it feels more like I'm flying in a vacuum.
@Pyrlixx The ground textures are desaturated an whitened to mimic snow and is based on the default textures, otherwise it's water and clouds are all default X-Plane.
The graphics ARE really as good as this video shows. You need to adjust and fine tune the render settings accordingly to your computer specs, and I'm sure you'll enjoy it.
The MU2 is a nice plane, but it's such a hassle to fly. I can't take my hands off of the yoke for a second. Anyway, it's quality is out of this world.
FSX vs x-plane? I have both..I like FSX slightly better only because it seems to be more realistic (flight dynamics) and better graphics with all settings maxed. That said I think X-Plane has a lot more potential to be better down the road (maybe next version even) as the FSX design is no longer operational.
@supersaintsfan31 it does have autopilot. And I've read it's possible to implement the RealityXP 430 GPS, but I haven't tested this myself. I bought the 530 myself.
The MU-2 comes with a detailed manual which will guide you through the autopilot system. So no, I won't help you out with it. If you need help, ask on the x-pilot.com forums.

@HDFlightSim I don't know. Might have something to do with how you export? Even though YouTube will be optimizing it a bit, I think you need to do their dirty work. This video was exported to QuickTime H.264 with 10,000kbit bitrate.
@chris5812341234 I have only tested it on a Mac Pro from 2008 with its default configuration. And based on that, no. I don't know how well the iMacs with i7 CPU perform though, and I have no knowledge about ATI Radeon cards. But you'd probably get at least 25-30fps in fullscreen with most of the settings pumped up a little.
After flying X-Plane religiously for the last year and a half, I flew for the first time this week. It almost felt like I'd been flying forever. Apart from the borderline air sickness ,it was quite windy, I can't say enough about this simulator. Incidentally the flight school just purchased a spanking new 3 screen simulator with X-plane as the teaching tool. Thats gotta say something.
Fraps and Final Cut. I am not familiar with the programs but I would love to learn how to use them and learn to make videos like you do. Great videos!
How do you get a wide 3-d cockpit view like that? whenever i use x-plane i feel like the panel is pressed right on my face... if i zoom out the seat textures get in the way and i can't see anything.
I'd say: go all the way instead of paying 2/3 of what the card you REALLY want/need. If you have to wait a month longer, it's well worth it than having a GPU that is only temporary and then have to save up all from zero again. I like the nVidia GTX 200 series. No need to go all the way with 295 really. Most games rely on CPU power anyway these days.
I honestly have no idea. I guess you won't be able to get good frame rates without some sacrifice. And that sacrifice should be in the texture handling. That means, set it to a lower quality than EXTREME. Other things that will hit the performance is visibility and water reflections, and the amount of buildings in cities. Cars on the road does little or nothing.
Excellant video! 5***** I have been flying FSX for a long time now and am impressed overall especially since I have Tileproxy all streamlined. HOWEVER...this video has convinced me to install XP9 again! lol. But I will NEED the MU-2 for sure. :)

hey guys is there a reason why x-plane 9 "slows down" in some areas? like ill be flying and the game pace will be moving extremely slow and then all of the sudden it will move extremely fast. is there a reason for this? i have number of objects set to mega tons and roads set to none. everything else is set to default. running at 4x AA and 1920-1080 res.
You don't say anything about your CPU.. But I'd say you'd better turn objects to a lower setting or reducing the AA to 2x, or even better - a combination of 2x AA and a lower amount of objects.
I can live with 2x AA and 16x anistropic filtering - that way the textures are sharp from any angle.
Nice video - I am thinking about switching to X-plane or al teast trying it. But if you have both X-Plane and FSX side by side on highest settings (default setup), then which would be better? And how are the planes to control? Realistic? Thanks.
I haven't touched FSX for two years, I have no idea about this particular question. But looking at how most of the people "out there" still struggle to get a nice flow when they're flying, I'd go with x-plane any day.
Each has pros and cons. The add-ons for FSX are simply untouchable. Mainly the Aerosoft F16 and PMDG's 747-400X. Then REX just adds icing on the cake. I have both and used to fly X-Plane the most but not any longer since I found the above add-ons. Both are great programs though. X-plane has better flight physics.
Question is kind of pointless as you can't run FSX on the highest settings while enjoying performance while x-plane is quite a bit easier on your system. However, x-plane doesn't have the AI traffic buzzing around without having to resort to what I consider to be a pain in the butt setup of x-traffic.
Yes, true. Maybe AI will be included in a later version. I have yet to try a demo of X-Plane because my hard drive is needing cleaned out. Thanks for answering anyway.

Two main reasons graphics seems extremely nice here vs. others:
- computer with some CPU power (all though this is NOT a top of the shelf computer like it was a year ago - Intel i7 would be nice to try!!)
- High settings in the sim
I think not too many hardcore simmers care about the graphics - I on the other hand care all about the visuals, and might not be that good as a pilot.
There's some general adjustments in contrast and color as well to make it seem real. And I emulate real camera.

I've fallen in love with this video. A couple of questions if I may...
Is this default X9 scenery? It's gorgeous...
and secondly, are you using Fraps to record?
Thanks,
Eifczar

I'm sorry I haven't answered. Well, I have, but there's something really bugged with my browser.
Anyway, it's default scenery, except the ENVA airport, and the winter textures. I'm using Fraps for recording.

Companies like Beoing and Cessna should hire Olahardor to make video advertisements for them

hey guys is there a reason why x-plane 9 "slows down" in some areas? like ill be flying and the game pace will be moving extremely slow and then all of the sudden it will move extremely fast. is there a reason for this? i have number of objects set to mega tons and roads set to none. everything else is set to default. running at 4x AA and 1920-1080 res.
specs
vista ultimate 32 bit
4 gb ddr3 ram
nvidia 790i sli mobo
geforce 9800gtx+ 512 mb ddr3
thanks.

Realistic? Thanks.
d2gizzo 3 years ago
I haven't touched FSX for two years, I have no idea about this particular question. But looking at how most of the people "out there" still struggle to get a nice flow when they're flying, I'd go with x-plane any day.
olahaldorvoll 3 years ago
Yeah, FSX is a frame rate killer. Thanks for your reply! I might try it sometime.
d2gizzo 3 years ago
Each has pros and cons. The add-ons for FSX are simply untouchable. Mainly the Aerosoft F16 and PMDG's 747-400X. Then REX just adds icing on the cake. I have both and used to fly X-Plane the most but not any longer since I found the above add-ons. Both are great programs though. X-plane has better flight physics.
WakeUpDummies 3 years ago
Question is kind of pointless as you can't run FSX on the highest settings while enjoying performance while x-plane is quite a bit easier on your system. However, x-plane doesn't have the AI traffic buzzing around without having to resort to what I consider to be a pain in the butt setup of x-traffic.
flyboyandre 3 years ago
Yes, true. Maybe AI will be included in a later version. I have yet to try a demo of X-Plane because my hard drive is needing cleaned out. Thanks for answering anyway.
d2gizzo 3 years ago
The demo doesn't do the full version justice. Limited time as well as one plane and one airport. I wasn't hooked until I got the full version.
flyboyandre 3 years ago
Well, if I like the demo then I'll know to expect more then :). I suppose it's the same as with FSX - the demo is rubbish.
