@theciskokidd the majority of religious people are not doing any harm and there even is some good out of religion. But religion as a whole comes at a steep price because people kill in the name of religion all the time. Throughout history almost every war was inspired by religion and some of the worst genocides were as well. So its undeniable that the world would have been a better place without religion.
You almost had me! I was thinking this Christian that made the vid was insane or a troll had escaped from under his bridge. Once I saw the megachurch comment I was happily assured that a lunatic had not escaped. Well played, sir. Well played.
I am not atheist. But this is not an intelligent argument this guy is making. In fact, this guy gets an F in debate and philosophy. This whole video is just silly.
haha satire is funny. people who don't know satire. this is a joke showing that there would be absolutely no difference if ''god disappeared'' because he doesn't exist!
@theUKatheist He had me confused because his speech and thought patterns perfectly align with those who actually believe in the creation myth. He's a good actor.
Is it possible that people can do good because they care, or must it be to gain something, "heaven" or escape something, "hell"? If good is only done out of fear to gain something, is it really love?
I would rather live in a world where people actually cared for each other.
....erm have you actually read the bible? In the bible god talks to people, and what about all the preachers and presidents nowadays that tell us what god is saying?
you said god "just is"......is what? how do we know he even exists if he doesn't talk to us? and if god "just is" then what is the point of him?
There's no god, there's no heaven, the sun is shining and women are wearing skimpy sexy summer outfits so stop worrying and enjoy the one all too short life you've got.
@godsromance Is this the part where we try and convince each other of the error of our ways? If so, can we just skip ahead to the ignore each other phase?
aw man that sucks....you get a land of milk and honey, 72 virgins, and all your dead relatives (and that goldfish that only lived for a couple of weeks) whilst we atheists get eternal darkness - and the one little bit of pleasure we get in this life - making god-botherers look like the nutjobs they are - you want to deprive me of!!!
The inquisition, the witch-burning - they're nothing compared with your cruelty!!!
@godsromance To this I'd have to say that it's not the idea of Christianity that is evil, it's what humans do with it.
Anyway, by all means, make us look nuts. You're entitled to your opinion, even if I disagree with it. You mentioned being a former Christian, do mind my asking why you aren't anymore?
surely if you tell someone you're ignoring them that rather misses the point of ignoring them? this chat could have ended in a really cool way with my "there's no god..."etc sentence....
As an atheist, I would readily listen to any attempt you made to "convince me of the error of my ways". however, having previously been a christian for many years, I now look back with amazement at the nonsense I used to believe.
so..um..sorry - seem to have used my cool ending quota for the month...
@godsromance Actually, I was asking if we could mutually ignore each other. I don't want to convince you of the error of your ways. Mainly because my belief in god is based on my personal experiences and these—being personal—can't really be used to convince you of anything, now can they? I also know that any religion, since god(s) can't truly be proven (or disproved—yes, I know you're gonna say that science proves they don't but there's no lab test for it, so don't) is based on faith. Hold on
@godsromance Okay. Stupid character limit and all that. I know when broken down to it's bare-bones beliefs, Christianity sounds completely nuts. However, based on the things I have experienced in my lifetime, I believe there has to be a god. I am also not so blinded by this belief that I can't admit a hint of doubt at his existence, as, whether you believe me or not I actually like and believe in science. Only a fool is 100% sure of anything, and I think it goes both ways.

If you're a theist who understood that this is a joke: congratulations, you have a brain. Now use it and cast away the ignorance of antiquity.

Ed is an wonderful example of Poe's Law.
"It is difficult or impossible to tell the difference between sincere extremism and the satirical parody of extremism."
No matter how nutty someone's religious beliefs seem to be, you can't be certain they aren't sincere. You name it, someone believes it.

Wow. The guy is being satirical. Most of you should look it up sometime. To be such intelligent, enlightened atheists, some of you sure are stupid.
