These comments on how to improve the performance of the boat are on topic. When a person is considering buying an RC boat, I think they might want some "review" beforehand. This is a hobby grade boat and not toy grade. It is of good quality, although I would advise a new owner to watch out for fatigue to the two pegs that are the only motor mounts, at the motor's rear. Put something to stabilze it under the front. It vibrates pretty fiercely up and down.
To be exact, you will need 4 1/2 oz. to counter the weighty battery that comes with it. That will level it perfectly. Just put those right at the point so they are against--touching the hull's side wall, in front of and behind/beneath the bundled guts on the right side: ESC, receiver, switch.
I used fishing weights (bullet, 2 oz. ea.) that I bought at Wal-Mart. They sell "industrial quality" velcro and "Liquid Nails" brand Clear Seal, which I also used. It's a great little boat.
As soon as you place it in the water, you notice right away that it leans to port (the left); a design flaw. A few 'or more' oz. of counterweights against the hull wall inside at the far right are needed to balance it--level it.
The first post didn't go up, so I tried again. That second post did. Now, a day later, I see the first one was just delayed in being 'processed' (I guess).
Xantec, you're a hobbyist posting on the rcgroups tag. Can you tell me if this boat really is close to the German Graupner (...more modest models) in it's overall quality ?
Does Graupner allow Hobby Engine to produce any RTRs for them these days ? I like this boat, as I do the Southampton tug, and I am hoping that Graupner's good design sense and parts choices are still present in this boat. Close up photos of the St. Tropez's finish and guts aren't all that impressive.
I have heard that the particular boat (make) you have is a good one. The German Graupners of all sorts also have a good reputation.
Do you happen to know if Graupner did sell a RTR or kit that really can be said to have sort of handed-down, in quality, the good design and parts choices in this Hobby Engine model ? Hobby Engine just makes this "St. Tropez" for Hobby Engine; Graupner is completely out (right ?)
I don't understand how the Southampton "was" a Graupner either.
Wow! I thought St.Tropez was prettier but oh well(:

It's very fast, i have one. i payed 299 euro's.
The stupid music overrules the engine sound, its awsome and the whole boat is coming out of the water at top speed and full batteries
