Or you can just modify one of the files (it's really easy) and you can play any faction from the very beginning. If you get M2, make sure you check out the many wonderful mods for it. They make the game far better.

Get a bunch of Volvitengers (the pike men with a pike formation) and make a U around the gate, they will burst through but with enough men you can surround and destroy the mongols. the only problem is the 3-4 non-stop battles with 6-7 full stack armies with only 1 full stack army in defense
Gunpoweder units i ment the riflemen not the cannons.Cannons are used vs theyre infantry or theyre general unit if it stays way back.I cant count the times i killed theyre generals with cannons cause they were just staying behind the troops.The musketers are excelent agains horse archers.U had a very good army but a very bad strategy.U too theyre bait chasing after the horse archers or theyre own archers.Leaving flanks uncovered.Of course u are being crushed if u use like that your amy ;)

Actually French is the most powerful faction in MTW> Especially, heavy cavalries. I can hold 3 Mongol armies by just 1 french full army in open field. I need 6 arbalists, 6 heavy chivalry knights, 4 dismounted knights or chivalry. That is it.
milanese are rubbish imo, there cavalry suck compared to france, and thts my favourite unit. but then again france are not the best faction, i like english and stuff.
Very Poor Battle Scheme, you placed your troops wrong (too close to you enemy, back them up and find a secluded arealike hills or trees for ambush) and next time organize archers behind spears or infantry infront. In my opinion i would put cavalary aside so when they attack cavalry will flank and crush them. Then march forward slowly and try to flank them!

Yes, but in Empire: Total War's era the Mongol and Timurid Empires broke up and became the Mughal empire in India and China and Japan were stuck in isolation from the rest of the world.
They have a good strategy, I've fought them a couple of times & been beaten.. they play a little like the Turks/Egyptians.. but there are more of them & their troops are better. I've yet to find a win-every-time strategy for them?

Then find the file descr_strat. Open it with a text editor (Word, or somthing like that). Cut and Paste the 'unlockable' section into the 'playable' section and save the file. Launch the game and you should have every faction available.
You can also unlock the Papal Estates, but not the MONGOLS, Timurids and The Aztecs.
Remember to make BACKUPS before you are editing the game files!!!!

well have u used a diplomat or a princess maybe they hate u so much they will not talk to u it happens a lot try and get your relations up with the enemies if thts not the problem better reinstall it

You made a couple of fatal errors, especially when surrounded. You also made your flanks short. So you actually made it easier for them to surround you. You might as well press the retreat button at the beginning.
You should read a guide or something because thats the worst i've ever seen and im not alone on that trust me. Lol i at least got a laugh so 4/5 from me :)
I hate this I can't play multiplayer so I play very hard and making my enemy army as best as I can...

Never Ever try to win distance fights with Mongols. They're masters at Distance fighting.
You should buy shitload of Cavalry (They have no pikemen, noticed?), half light and half heavy.
Attack with ligght from two sides so mongol horse unit engages to fight, and strike with heavy cavalry.
When your knights will leave the place only thing you'll see there will be Mongol pancakes with horse icing.
