The announcer for the Sally Jessy Raphael show was Wally Kennedy. For some reason he is not on WPVI anymore. Listen to him on the evening and overnight shift doing the news on KYW radio.
Ch6 let go of Wally Kennedy, because they really didn't have anything for him anymore. Barbara Walters demanded her show the view get aired in Philly, that bumped AM Philadelphia / AM live off despite getting good ratings (ch 6 was winning the timeslot)
Philly after midnight didn't get good ratings, and neither did Sunday live. So in the end they were paying him just to host inside story, a program any anchor could do, as we see today.
And the guy voicing the Sunday Matinee is Paul Norton I believe. He recently passed in August of 2008. If you goto ch6's website and search his name they still have the video of Jim Gardner reporting it onair.
@Philacav I think the announcer for the Sunday Matinee was Paul Norton. He passed away back in August 7, 2008. He voice was amazing...he WAS channel 6
Yep, back before broadcast TV found out there's more money to be made running colon-cleaning infomercials during those afternoons. And, that guy that says, "You can buy this 8,000-sq. ft. house for just 172 dollars!! (and 83 cents!)"
To wpvi's credit, they still run the Sunday afternoon movie, when there isn't sports. Just now they air crappy b movies, and they got some junky opener for those movies. Still its more than 3 & 10 do.
Sounds like everyone in Hollywood

Who was the Channel 6 promo announcer back then? Is he still living? They don't use his voice these days for show promos.

Ah, Sunday afternoons on WPVI! When there weren't sports to be run, WPVI had a great block of movies:
Noon: Sunday Matinee
2PM: Sunday Afternoon Movie
4PM: The Big Show
Now those were the days of growing up on TV back in the 1980's to the mid '90s!
