Nice truck man, Would love to own it. However, please put some different rims, theese trucks were meant for brute froce (TT Cummins inhancing such), not bling!! ^_^
Cummins is not owned by any of the big three domestic auto companies. A long time ago ford had less than 12% Cummins stock that Cummins has long since bought back. International is not owned by ford they just had a contract just like Dodge/Cummins. The duramax is a Isuzu motor built in a joint venture with GM. Do a little research before you comment back.
As for the diesel brand arguments, after this year, International engines will no longer be available in Ford trucks, so the argument is sort of pointless now. We'll see how Ford's new in-house diesel design compares soon enough.
sorry to argue but internatinal is putting a 6.8 or something like that in the ford trucks for the next 3 years.. says it on the ford website im not sure what size, its either 6.6, 6.8
International is being cut off by Ford after the end of production of 2010 model year trucks, the 2011's will have a 6.7L that will be built in house by Ford
@dbrandinni Got an interesting point for you when it comes to diesels in the "Big Three". Dodge first started puting a 4L Mitsubishi diesel in their trucks in '78, then changed to the 5.9L Cummins in '89, and still uses Cummins today (not their own engine). Now GM on the other hand built their own using the Olds 5.7 from '78-'80. In '81 GM startted using a 6.2L Detroit, which is a division of GM. The 6.5L Detroit replaced the 6.2L in '92. Then in '01 GM went to the Duramax.
@dbrandinni Now the 6.6L Duramax was a joint venture between GM and Isuzu, with Isuzu doing the design work. So you can argue with the GM guys that their engine is an Isuzu and not GM (that's up to you). Ford started by using the International (changed to Navstar in '86) 6.9L, then bumped up to the 7.3L in '88, which was later renamed the "Powerstroke" in '94. Now, as you have pointed out, they have brought the "Powerstroke" "in house" and completely redesigned it so it is a Ford engine.
@dbrandinni I just thought this would be an interesting clarification and point to be made and like you I am a Ford fan and am happy and anxious to see how this completely new engine pans out.
@dbrandinni. ill agree with you. ford may make their own engines but their still shit and just cause they make them dont mean that their better than a duramax cause truth is they are not and will never be better then a duramax...ford wont win hook them up in a pull. i just watched a chevy putting out 750/900 pull a 398' pull. the ford after it was putting out 9 something and over 1000 torque yet only managed a 252' pull
@JustinHansen6669 Since there is no way to see once and for all, you have your opinion about the Duramax, like I have my opinion that the Ford Diesel is and always will be better. Its also my opinion, that the 7.5L Ford will climb a fuckin tree dragging a Duramax behind it. lol
What all did you do too the front end. Because I have a 92 ford and were gona put a 94 cummins in it with a nv 4500 but we dont know what transfer case to use with the same front axle and the nv 4500 tranny.
my 96 cummins with totally overhauled engine and twin turboed with stacks straitpiped and other stuff can scoot right along. i like his ford cummins a guy i know got one like that
im a ford guy and i love the powerstroke i have one and to be honest i would much rather have a cummings 12v in my truck (cheap horsepower) and with the whole transmission thing there are many different applications you can use expecially when you start getting into the bigger power and torque and hell if you got the money to put a new motor beaf up your existing trans and save some cash
damn man thats my dream truck beautiful body bad ass engine sweet ride all around man and fuck all you goddamned tree huggin smoke hatin bitches move to Europe if you dont like it LAND OF THE FREE HOME OF THE BRAVE ! ! !
Cause its a Ford. I like giving the guys that take the easy way out a hard time. Like all the guys that throw a 350 into Ford and Dodge rods just cause its cheaper.
The easy way out? Who said it was the easy way out? People do engine swaps for other reasons that just power or cost of attaining it. It's unfortunate that you're so loyal the powerstroke that your nerves get pinched when someone drops a better motor in it's place. The Cummins is the hands down the more proven and better powerplant.
Wow. I never said that the Cummins wasn't the better motor. The fact that I have a higher respect for brand loyalty means that I'm not a front runner. I have a '06 Dodge MegaCab, but just cause the Trans is shit doesn't mean I'm looking to throw an Alison or Torqshift in it. I'll do whatever it takes to build it the way Dodge should have.
A built 48re is more preferred than an Allison or Torqshift as well, at least in some cases. There are some Dmax drag trucks with 48re's behind them. It's really not that shitty of a transmission, just has a bad rep.
I thought the hole point of the discusion was who built what the strongest and most reliable. If your talking stock for stock then Ford and Chevy are back in the game. Hands down the Cummins is the best performance for your bucks motor, but they too have had head and fuel problems in stock or mild mod forms at just over 100K. They are just way easier to fix and parts are way cheaper, thanks to its industrial heritage. But in stock form many will argue that Dodge takes 3rd place.
3rd place in stock form? On the Powerstroke and GM Duramax forums I read on many former Cummins owners love their new trucks but still think that their old Cummins trucks pulled their heavy loads better. It's usually the ones who have never owned anything but a Powerstroke or Duramax that say negative comments towards the Cummins. Not sure where the head/fuel problems you're talking about come from, unless you're talking 98.5-02 24v.
Yeah, I totally disagree w/ houseofdiesel about Dodge taking 3rd place in stock form.
If you're talking sales #'s, then yes... but fuel economy & performance-wise, the Cummins engine kills Powerstrokes in every possible competition (drags, pulls, fuel econ etc). Not true of Duramax. They definitely keep up.
And if you wanna pick on the stock Dodge front end, then you gotta admit that the old TTB Ford front ends were worse. And Chevy's IFS is a joke. Solid front axle's the only way to go.
Not in modified daily pulling. Both my '06 Dodge, dad's '08 and buddy's '03 Dmax overheat pulling on grades. Dude I'll admit the TTB thing all day long. My first truck was a '94 with a 4" Rancho lift on 35s and I had to align it every month or so. Now I only buy 350 or swap the 60 in like my '96 crew shortbed, cause it was never offered in that body style as a 350. Oh and rebuilt the E40D cause that was a POS too. All have weakness', endless argument, except Cummins is cheaper in every way.
@houseofdiesel they arent e4od's they are e4odd the extra d is for diesel i have a 97 7.3 extended cab 250hd auto, and a 85 f350 6.9 np4 speed both have ttb, ttb was on f-350s from 80-851/2 and there is no tougher independent front end, might not ride good but ill put my dana 50 snowbusters against any independent fron end out there.
What does it matter the exact designation between the trans. They are still the same weak pieces with diff gear ratios. As for the TTB thing both TTB and Independent are crap designs for lifted 4x4 rigs. The TTB is a Dana 50 which has no option for lockers and is a bitch to keep aligned, but at least it always locks in 4x4 unlike Chevy's Independent crap. As for the 60 Referance I was actually referring to the CrewShortBed in the 90-97 Body only being offered as F250s for 96 and 97.
Yeah, houseofdiesel's talking about the 98.5-02 24-valve Cummins and the weak, stock VP-44 inj. pump. They're prone to failure, but you can install a FASS (or similar fuel system) for a couple hundred bucks and keep the VP-44 from failing due to fuel pressure loss.
@houseofdiesel DODGE DID NOT BUILD CUMMINS, Cummins is a FORD product, always has been. Dodge just owns the merchandising rights, as has no say in the design and manufacture of Cummins.
lol....Ford owned Cummins as in a long time ago. Ford has absolutely nothing to do with Cummins and was out of the picture before Cummins creaeted the 12V 6BT. Cummins is Cummins and has a contract with Dodge to supply them with the motor. Those are the facts check them out. And Ford doesn't own International or Detroit either. Where are you getting your info from a 70's magazine?
@houseofdiesel Whatever princess. Ford still owns them. It's just like the idiots that think Nissan is American just 'cause it assembled in Tennessee, and has a corporate office in Nashville But the money still goes to Japan at the end of the day. Ford took their name off the letterhead to stimulate brand loyalty and avoid looking like a monopoly. Oh, and I get my Information from my employer, Calsonic.
You make interior parts...so what. Not a single Ford employee or board member has any influence over any of the companies you listed, even if they may own stocks in a few of them. Controlling ownership, means they make decisions and if Ford has retained any stocks in those Companies they have no power or influence in them due to them selling their majority shares over the past few decades. Think about it, you don't sue yourself, and International just sued Ford in 08. So there you Queen.
@houseofdiesel Actually babygirl, I make turbos and pistons at the moment, But I have been known to run the braising oven over in radiators on the weekends. Confidentiality prevents me naming the brand names, but I assure you it would break your heart if you knew who's shit was milled off the same machine.
And all you can do is insult people with names like, princess, babygirl....etc....you can't have a civil conversation and back up your ridiculous claims.
i love the ford f-350's. my brother had a harley davidson style one and they shake like a bitch but i love it and the sound of em is awesome but not many people are buyin em cuz there so bad on gas. :S
I agree with FordGuy100, megacabs look stubby and ugly without a long bad on them. However, there are at least three companies that make long beds for them. Google megacablongbedsdotcom.
Sweet truck. In order to make the cummins fit you have to modify the firewall and of course change the motor mounts from V8 to straight six.
I have a 78 F-350 crew cab w/ a 400 V8. I'd swap in a cummins if I had the $. I like the old Ford Iron better than the new stuff. My budy has a 07 Dodge 3500 w/ the cummins. Body = thin composites and plastic. My truck is just more heavy duty when it comes down to it. His is newer, with new technology, mine is older and tough as nails. Personal prefrence.
b/c the international diesels that come in our truck take alot of money to get power out of and i happen to hate dodges styling so you take the best diesel engine out there Cummins linked together with the best trucks out there Fords and you get a hell of a truck
dont tell me that there to expensive to get power hell my cummins was expensive, but the problem is ford diesels just wont hold the power you try to produce much less be durable but at least you know a good motor me personally I dont care what a cummins is in be a dodge, ford, chevy, isuzu, toyota whatever I would drive it YOU JUST DONT MESS WITH PERFECTION LIKE A P-pumped 12V CUMMINS
I agree, I drive a powerstroke and have done everything possible to it, when this engine dies, which will probably be soon, in goes a cummins. I am thinking a 24 valve with a p-pump conversion would be cool too.
in the "sirst" place shithead, dodge may use cummins in their trucks, but cummins is NOT a dodge engine. that is like saying "why put b.f.goodrich tires on your ford, buy a dodge in the "sirst" place" dumb ass, go hump a pig!
do u kno if he had to make any modifications to the engine compartment to fit in the 12v cummins? i have a 78' f-150 that i would like to put in a 12v or 24v cummins.
that is a 79 not a 78 as it is posted on this video. last year for this bodystyle was in 79. 1986 was the last year for the original 1980 front end of a Ford.
The 1978 Ford trucks had round headlights until mid-year when square headlights became optional. Square headlights became standard in 1979. Other than that, 1978 and 1979 are identical. Since the video never shows the front end, How can you tell? Besides it's not hard to swap headlight doors, grills and grill shells on 74-79 F-series trucks. I went from round to square headlights on my 78 F-350crewcab. Took my budy and I about half an hour.
Yes there were. I have owned two 1978 trucks, an f-150 and the F-350 crewcab and a 1978 Bronco Ranger XLT all with round headlights from the factory. If you doubt it, there are plenty of sources on the web that show original 1978 Ford brochures and owners manuals that show the round headlight. I don't know where you got your information, but you are mistaken.
Hey, J. I did some research and discovered that you're right! This is quite a surprise,
I considered myself somewhat of an authority
on Ford trucks. I have never seen a '78 with round headlights. The people I talked to said it depended on the trim package and possibly which plant the truck was built at.
Nice truck man, Would love to own it. However, please put some different rims, theese trucks were meant for brute froce (TT Cummins inhancing such), not bling!! ^_^

some people who talk like that are gay
spitball16 3 years ago 2
Except whats the point in owning a truck if its not a long bed. Those mega cabs look so gay with those little beds behind them.
Seriously, who in the hell would own a short bed diesel truck, there ment to haul/pull things.
FordGuy100 3 years ago 3
i can see having a 2 door long bed and a 4 door short bed but...Those mega-cabs look ugly ill admit haha.
Sprchrged04 3 years ago
I agree with FordGuy100, megacabs look stubby and ugly without a long bad on them. However, there are at least three companies that make long beds for them. Google megacablongbedsdotcom.

DE-STROKED.....cummins conversions!!!!!!!
gkoepe 4 years ago
Sweet truck. In order to make the cummins fit you have to modify the firewall and of course change the motor mounts from V8 to straight six.
I have a 78 F-350 crew cab w/ a 400 V8. I'd swap in a cummins if I had the $. I like the old Ford Iron better than the new stuff. My budy has a 07 Dodge 3500 w/ the cummins. Body = thin composites and plastic. My truck is just more heavy duty when it comes down to it. His is newer, with new technology, mine is older and tough as nails. Personal prefrence.

man u cant get a stronger truck than that kudos. what tranny?
trevman187 4 years ago

MTGunNut 4 years ago
y do all thes ford guys want a cummins hahahahhhahaahahaha, jus get a dodge in the sirst place
kbf750x 4 years ago
b/c the international diesels that come in our truck take alot of money to get power out of and i happen to hate dodges styling so you take the best diesel engine out there Cummins linked together with the best trucks out there Fords and you get a hell of a truck
CoreyHM 4 years ago
dont tell me that there to expensive to get power hell my cummins was expensive, but the problem is ford diesels just wont hold the power you try to produce much less be durable but at least you know a good motor me personally I dont care what a cummins is in be a dodge, ford, chevy, isuzu, toyota whatever I would drive it YOU JUST DONT MESS WITH PERFECTION LIKE A P-pumped 12V CUMMINS
fasttalker83 4 years ago 2
I agree, I drive a powerstroke and have done everything possible to it, when this engine dies, which will probably be soon, in goes a cummins. I am thinking a 24 valve with a p-pump conversion would be cool too.
redblacksky 4 years ago
@fasttalker83 If only every truck came with a 12V Cummins... That'd be the day.
jamesandrewjohnson 5 months ago
People might not want to replace a fine truck with something new, Or mybe they want the best of both worlds.
MTGunNut 4 years ago
in the "sirst" place shithead, dodge may use cummins in their trucks, but cummins is NOT a dodge engine. that is like saying "why put b.f.goodrich tires on your ford, buy a dodge in the "sirst" place" dumb ass, go hump a pig!
aaronjam99 4 years ago
do u kno if he had to make any modifications to the engine compartment to fit in the 12v cummins? i have a 78' f-150 that i would like to put in a 12v or 24v cummins.
IronHorsekid 4 years ago
that year you would have to do some notching for oil pan clearence but thats about it
rspeaksup 4 years ago
that is a 79 not a 78 as it is posted on this video. last year for this bodystyle was in 79. 1986 was the last year for the original 1980 front end of a Ford.
DieselMikey084 4 years ago
did you build that truck? I'm pretty sure Piers built it
fnearing 4 years ago
i know facts about the trucks.
DieselMikey084 4 years ago
The 1978 Ford trucks had round headlights until mid-year when square headlights became optional. Square headlights became standard in 1979. Other than that, 1978 and 1979 are identical. Since the video never shows the front end, How can you tell? Besides it's not hard to swap headlight doors, grills and grill shells on 74-79 F-series trucks. I went from round to square headlights on my 78 F-350crewcab. Took my budy and I about half an hour.
orthmannJ 4 years ago
There were NEVER any 1978 Ford F-150, F-250 or F-350 trucks produced with round headlights.
bluezbear66 4 years ago
Yes there were. I have owned two 1978 trucks, an f-150 and the F-350 crewcab and a 1978 Bronco Ranger XLT all with round headlights from the factory. If you doubt it, there are plenty of sources on the web that show original 1978 Ford brochures and owners manuals that show the round headlight. I don't know where you got your information, but you are mistaken.
orthmannJ 4 years ago
Hey, J. I did some research and discovered that you're right! This is quite a surprise,
I considered myself somewhat of an authority
on Ford trucks. I have never seen a '78 with round headlights. The people I talked to said it depended on the trim package and possibly which plant the truck was built at.
bluezbear66 4 years ago
ya i changed my whole grille on my 75 to a 79, best thing i ever did
zipper390 3 years ago
this is actually a 78 ford rigged to look like a 79, i would now as i now the owner of the truck (I work for his brother)
scarletfever92 4 years ago
whats the difference between a 78 and a 79 is it the headlights and grill?
jtreign9097 4 years ago
