  • with no t.v. or internet or playing gigs in smaller places..even the people of this era were robbed of the chance to see THE best mainstream band of the time and we won't even talk about the hard bop giants that followed shortly thereafter.

  • In the 1920s my Dad (white, English, middle class) was chastised by his father for listening to that bad black music from the States such as Louis Armstrong, Fats Waller and the like. No different to people moaning about rap today. Imagine the effect of listening to Louis' Hot Fives at the time - they sound mind-blowing c/w what else was happening at the time and to some, no doubt, quite scarey. Charlie Christian is one such pioneer. Incredible.

  • Thank you all for the wonderful comments - "Mr100pounds."

  • HELL YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!

  • EXCELLENT...BRAVO !

  • @Hoopermazing I'm glad someone gets it. Rap isn't bad, it's just different. Most of the mainstream stuff coming out today is crap, but original rap is not. Original rap is a modern version of the blues. It's the story of growing up poor in the projects and having to fight for survival. People that don't understand it like to slam it, but they're just showing their ignorance. History will always repeat itself, and mankind will never learn.

  • @TheJuunit21 You sound like you heard one of my lectures.

  • very fine-

  • kradoss, thanks for commenting. I'm pretty sure that every generation (for the most part) feels that the one THEY are a part of was the best, had the greatest music, athletes, movies, etc. My comment re: the "rhyming" wasn't intended as a slam at the genre itself, rather at the no-talent imbeciles I see that think because they can talk fast, flash signs and stomp around on stage grabbing their crotch that they have talent. If that is considered a "talent" by today's standards, then I pass.

  • Incredible. What a time that must have been. Sadly, show this to anyone under 35-40, and they'd yawn. If it doesn't have a synthesizer or some moron stomping around the stage with a microphone "rhyming", it simply doesn't exist to this poor, misguided musically-ignorant generation. Kudos to Mr100pounds.

  • @guitarist3813 I will admit that people of my generation have their issues with music. But there are people my age who love this stuff, like myself. But also, you might wanna look at that whole rhyming stuff some off its actually really good. But stuff like this is classic and fantastic and unfortunately is falling of the map=(

  • @kradoss You're wasting your breath, kid. This happens every generation. Some black kids invent some new form of music--be it ragtime, jazz, blues, rock & roll, rap ect...--and the adult white of the given era slam it in typical knee-jerk reactionary fashion. Then, their children and grand children embrace it. The same types of comments that you've gotten in this thread were previously leveled at Jazz et al. I'm actually a little surprised that someone hasn't called rap "Devil music" yet.

  • @Hoopermazing I know what you're saying. But I feel as if music is becoming more simplistic. But that's just my opinion.

  • @cholocharile Even if that is true, you have the luxury of spending your youth in an era of unfettered electronic media distribution. No matter how esoteric your musical aesthetic might be, there are 1000 artists who fit the bill at your fingertips 24/7. Moreover, you also have lines of communication to other people who like exactly what you like, both in your town and around the world. They might not seem a big deal to you, but trust me, it is.

  • there's great music everywhere, you just have to look outside the mainstream....the internet makes it very easy to find music, especially youtube....

  • @KOSMICKEN09 for shure man , youtube is a treasure

  • @guitarist3813 You're sadly mistaken. Give people some credit.

  • @guitarist3813 I am 15... (And I'm studying this :-D)

  • Charlie Christian is my god.

I hope that Louis Armstrong doesn't smite me for that.

  • sublime

  • this is music motherfuckers!

  • Excellent!!!!!!!

  • Inmensos!!! GREAT!!!!
