Personally, whether you beilieve in climate change or not, I don't care, but, if we do turn off our lights when we leave the room, or turn off anything we are not using, how could it POSSIBLY HURT our planet...IT CAN'T! Doing this will not kill you, and, if climate change is real, at least we will have done something about it. You can't argue the fact that saving energy is a bad thing. And BTW, if we use less vehicles or anything that uses fuel, fuel demand will go down, and so will the prices!!
now what i dont understand is why just lights? why not all electricity...like i mean channel 7 in my area which is CityTV had Nelly Furtado and such performing why woudl they just not say shut off all electricty...it could be family time i nthe dark or someshit i dunno its a little hypocritical if you think about it
It's about making a statement. We're concerned how our energy use affect the environment. Also, fossil fuels are bound to run out, so we ought to think hard about how to make it last longer and to search and promote alternatives.
hey treehuggers!more pollution comes from candles and torches than lights!just turn off all your lights.etc and leave us all alone if u don't know what you are talking about!greenpeace says farming should be stopped because it creates greenhouse gases!i'd be more worried that there will be no more fish to eat from the oceans in 40 years!a worldwide carbon tax on everyone will give gov'ts more control of the masses-thats what its really all about!think about it ok?too many people must die for u!
Don't forget volcanoes lol, you are getting your "facts" from Rush Limbaugh. Global warming is real and a fact. Greenpeace has not called for an end to farming, what they have asked for is people to become vegetarians which would massively reduce greenhouse gases. Here is some evidence for you.
wow i am so glad so many people turned off their lights. I just wish the people in the building turned out their lights. The busnises I understand. they might have had customers but the buliding lights were on. does any one know how much we saved?

Downtown wasn't much of a difference. Minus the "big PR" areas. A large majority of corporate stores/etc did not participate (hardly any following). Leaving store front signs on, display lights on, etc etc. The TTC didn't even do what it does in high power consumption times, turn every other light off in the subways/etc. It was a pathetic showing of how Toronto has went from the cleanest city in the world to absolute filth. We are an apathetic city, only willing to do the minimum to coast by.
I disagree with Toronto being absolute filth, I lived in the GTA all my life and last year moved to Lima Peru. Before I left I always thought that Toronto was dirty and not very nice at times. But now that I am here and I have something to compare it to, Toronto is the greatest city I have ever seen! The streets are clean and for the most part safe, the air is clean, the people are nice and respectful, and atleast Torontonians participated in Earth hour, because no one here seemed to care!
Why the hate? Toronto is a great city and we were picked as an official earth hour city. If you had ever been here you would know that. We are the world's most diverse city. I have been to Vancouver and it is a nice place but Toronto I love.
My buddy is working on his own video - longer and more editing, so we could have a Views competition. So far I am in the lead... most because he's still editing.
Yea, I liked the event, not because I enjoy the whole tri-hugging idea, but because it gives the city/people another opportunity to get out with their friends and families and have a good time.
