  • As far as you giving this unit back its absolutely a mistake. Your Ol'drive maybe good but its quite an old technology compared to your seagate desk agent. I guess you should get rid of your Acomdata and use the Seagate FreeAgent. Get a 1TB and you will be happy with the new swappable base.

  • 4) A removable base probably is the only factor which I would agree on. I am sure Seagate too would acknowledge that fact. They did some changes and newer models come with Detachable Base.

  • 3) The 3 prongs over 2 is probably the silliest I have heard from this review. Why would a 5 or 8 watts plastic adapter require 3 prongs with earth? It just makes the adapter large and cumbersome. Let alone the lousy dc connector. Its hard to find a replacement too.

  • 2) Why on earth do you need a switch for External HDD? To corrupt Data? A HDD has to be gracefully switched off and this is part of the reason why a switch is elliminated. Seagate cares for your data integrity. You cant blame them for that. The software can shutoff the drive after flushing in data over a present idle time.

  • 1) Mini usb is an advancement over the standard USB downstream connector. This is more like a newer interface. Well micro is even newer ! So these things keep shrinking and I dont understand why people blame for such silly things

  • This is absolutely a Noob Review. The Reasons are explained below.

  • My drive makes a couple little clicks whenever I have not accessed it for a few minutes. Is this normal?

  • You frakkin stink at making videos. Get a frakkin tripod you loser. Also, while these drives do suck, you are an idiot.

  • It does have a power on/off switch. -.-'

It's on the front of it, in the right part.

  • You complain too f***ing Much! This is a great drive, and who cares if it uses mini-usb, or has the power supply as the base. This is a great design for photographers who will have external always on, great without power button. If you need a power button, mod a switch onto it. Oh yeah, Mac users don't know how to do that!!!!

  • Why would you bother doing a review and first thing saying its shit and ur taking it back

  • i got a 500gb freeagent desktop one (not pro) and my power/usb connector is on the drive itself and not on the base.. so i could probly take off the base by unscrewing some bits

  • Can you tell a speed difference between usb 2.0 and firewire 400?

  • usb is UPTO 480MB/s and firewire is a consistant 400MB's

  • Thank you for telling me that.

  • No problems

  • should have got the pro

  • what's the difference?

  • Power button, firewire/eSata, slimmer, amazing included software, glow strip on entire drive.

Bad thing is, the power off is apparently a little tricky, and the glow strip on the entire drive would mean its more likely to over-heat.

I just got the same one, I ordered it. I am waiting for it in the mail. I got the 500GB desktop model.

I meant to get the pro model, but I didn't notice the difference till it was too late.

  • HAHAHAHAHAHA, you dont have firewire. USB = slow as shit

  • i have the freeagent go and i'm turning mac, I hear mac only has 2 usb ports and the go requires 2. I store my itunes files on the go and I'm wondering if theres a way I can also connect my ipod. multi usb attachment?

  • u got ripd 110 at tiger

  • u got ripd 69 on black friday

  • I've got one as a gift and it's going back to the store . I've found countless negative reviews on it today . Some people like it a lot ...but there are so many reports of DOA or failiure after an hour or 2 or loosing it after a couple of days and if one is lucky, it'll last more than 6 months. The casing design is bad and the heat is not well dissipated.

  • with the light staying on, i believe that has to do with the mac, when i use a flash-drive on my macbook, the light still stays on even though its ejected. "ejected" means that the computer is done communicating with the device, so nothing can be lost if you unplug it, but for some reason, macbook still give the usb power to the device

  • You muppet there's nothing wrong with the hard drive I have one & think it is great. you looser.

  • Appreciate your efforts to overview the Seagate. But I must admit your presentation is to little info, to slowly. You could say U have to say in much less time. Your critique was not well planned or rehearsed. Sorry your out.

  • how much that 80g

  • you PRICK! "ooh it has a mini-USB port" who gives a shit you loser?

  • And on how many USB hard drives do you see the mini-USB connector? I have tons more USB A-B cables than mini-USB laying around, so if the cable dies, then you're SOL. I was just pointing out it was an unusual design feature. If you have so much disdain for this video, there's nothing stopping you from making a review of the FreeAgent on your own. How does this make me a prick?

  • lol. point well made. however most digital cameras use the mini-usb cable, so it's not going to die. you're probably not a prick really, i was just messing around. i got my freeagent 500Gb drive today, i'll let you know how i get on with it if you like.
