@DJVenomP96 If you are just starting making music, I suggest FLStudio will be a good choice for you. A lot easier for beginners but advanced for Professionals.
this explains the process of how its not 1 bass but 4. many people think he has this magic patch that produces it all at once. I do believe he is re-sampling it all though and pitch shifting for new songs. But no doubt his sound is just sick
What are the plugins that are produced in this video? All I know of is Massive by Native Instruments. I currently have that and FL Studio 10 and Massive, but I don't know what he uses to make the Bitcrusher or the Heavy Distortion. Does anyone here know?
@ElectrumShiv Yeah, I found Ohmicide after looking at the title of it in the video lol. But I can't find the plugin that had the bitcrusher, so I had to use Massive's Bitcrusher, which doesn't sound that good.
ok great video...but can anybody help me...how do i record the actual wobble??ive tried both modulation wheel and automation and so on...i just aint getting the full on effect...please help!!...:)
@MangaFreak2000 no but you said all his music sound the same, wich is w.r.o.n.g. Well Skirllex hasn't(?).. produced half of what what deadmau5 have buti can still hear the same drum/bass synth samples in every song. Just sayin
@MangaFreak2000 I liked skrillex more before scray monsters(no i'm no hipster) cus i liked the slower more sebasiAn inspired stuff. But the stuff makes now is just some cheesy melody then right on the 600000 bass clips that he throws out here n there, and in almost evey song. Deadmau5 makes that clippy electro, but also, minimal, prog house, on vexilollogy there are some real good techno tunes, chiptune, breakbeat.. yeah u name it. Ifs skrillex has made some screamo and produced other artists.
@thebman50 go on to google and type NI Massive torrent TPB there's a really good copy on there, i liked it so much i went and bought it after a couple weeks trial
@theoneandonlyFD Apparently it's just called 'Bitcrusher'. But you can just Google 'Bitcrusher' and use any VST you find as a result. They'll do the same thing.
Lol. First of all, 67,537 people have just watched a video showing them a sound that sounds absolutely NOTHING like a skrillex bass. Good tutorial tho.
Too many people are going to watch this and try to replicate this sound identically rather than using this as a building block and then expanding it with their own ideas. Great tutorial, don't get me wrong.

@guitarisforever1234 In ProTools you have to open the plugin and at the top somewhere is a button that says "auto". Click that and a window will appear asking which parameters you want to automate. Once you have selected them you will be able to change the automation in the same way that you automate pan and volume. In track view you should be able to view the automation by clicking something near to where the track name is. Sorry but I haven't got it in front of me too look at. Hope this works!

@jeremus1979 the greatest bands in history didn't use presets because they didn't use massive, or any DAW or VST for that matter. They plugged guitars, mics, and basses into amps, and practiced every day until they got sick. Not that I don't love dubstep & this is a great tutorial, but just had to note how ridiculous that comment was...
@MuddUndergroundRules That's the point, what if we didn't "have" presets. Obviously you missed it by NOT reading the second half of that post dipshit. If you created a setting (with knobs) on an analogue guitar pedal and ever used it again by dialing it in, it's a fucking PRESET. If you don't have anything constructive STFU and at least TRY to contribute. Oh, so anyway....it's all granular synthesis people. like ALL of it. study it. win it. I hope Skrill eats your face.
@omgitslittlej Even then, it's very much different from skrillex's stuff. Not exactly a bad thing. Sounds influenced by him for sure, but still very different. It's really quite epic, just in a different way.
@jeremus1979 No presets? Then what the fudge are instruments? Western society is allready brainwashed by their tonal system anywayz. You don't have to invent the wheel yourself.
Even though you can make really cool sounds, the hard part is producing a catchy moving melody and balancing everything. It takes a lot of practice and inspiration, like anything else.
@dtanobo this program is logic, not ableton.. I think most sequencers have their own version of a bitcrusher (nuendo certainly does). If you don't have one just google "free bitcrusher plugin", there are a few out there..
You could do soo much more with Ohmicide. That is the most insane Plug-in I ever owned. There's endless possibilities with that machine haha just adding some input
Well In my opinion, I use presets sometimes, but I usually tweak it to something totally different ^.^ SO it isn't really a bad thing. But I also like to make my own sounds too.
Now that we have seen some evolvement since this vid came out, as far as music is concerned there are two more people that have caught on to this and done it right. Davr and Feed Me. Resampling, layering, time-stretching. period.
@michaelgorczyca go to the place you downloaded massive. then find the folder where fl studio 9 is. find the vst folder within that. after that, simply drag and drop massive into the vst folder. message me with any questions
@TokyoKnights3 There is a random button =). It's on the global page, directly underneath 3 Env. Select what you want to randomize (Parameter, moddepth, connections, type select and matrix) and press the "random all button" Hope this was helpful.
Seriously, this tutorial doesn't say "This is how Skrillex makes his bass" No, this is just a tutorial on how to make a SIMILAR talking bassline. Seriously. Stop the debate on whether he makes his bass like this or not, specially since he linked a tutorial in his facebook by the user Karasho using NI massive. And saying himself. "This is isn't how i do my bass lines." So shut the fuck up.
Now the tutorial? Excellent, I am so using this as a base to make other sounds.
@Jamesbenn49 ....my point exactly!!! I can almost guarantee he doesn't. Two ways it's done. Either by Bit reduction and editing both filter freq and Amount whilst the reduction is set at about 30 or so....or the other method is formant filters. BUT.....the sound has to be big first. No point trying to make a Skrillex belter out of a shit little sample. It won't happen.
Think of any of the greatest bands in history...you know...the ones you really liked. Chances are, they didn't use presets. Discover your sound and have an "aha" moment, then you may even leave Skrillex in the dust.
@jeremus1979 for tut and learning purposes USE A FUCKING PRESET once you do that make a simple rythm THEN go fuck around with the knobs yourself, baby steps
@TheMazithra for the first time ever, i fucked around & recorded with a Nord Lead...i had so much control, it changed the way i see plugins...not bad...just different. Don't be afraid to start with a simple sine wave and jack it up to filth...most people find this too daunting and think their sounds suck...but not the case.
Ok. take synthesis 101. Learn Massive & FM8. Ditch the presets, work under a major label, let them mix/master everything while become a master programmer and study cutting-edge arrangements. The formula is pretty clear.
I seriously feel like going OH FUCKING REALLY on the 2 highest rated comments. Just shut up, this is just supposed to help us get how to make this kind of tone.
(whether it actually does a good job or not is a different thing)
ok can someone help me out here. I have Logic Express and Massive. I can open Massive by itself and play the synths using my laptop keyboard but it won't work when I plug in my MIDI keyboard via usb. I want to know how you can rout Massive into Logic so i can use my MIDI keyboard. someone please try and help me. thank you.
@dtopeth2 native instruments is the company that makes massive. massive is a plug in, it can be ran through all different programs like Fruity loops, logic, etc..
What programs do you use to make dubstep? please reply and tell me i wanna get into making this music.

@TokyoKnights3 There is a random button =). It's on the global page, directly underneath 3 Env. Select what you want to randomize (Parameter, moddepth, connections, type select and matrix) and press the "random all button" Hope this was helpful.

@TokyoKnights3 Or learn how to use it and you'll be able to make any sound you want :)

SICK this is probably what Skrillex does. if not he does A LITTLE bit extra but like good stuff man definetley helpful
gaivskakashi 1 year ago
Seriously, this tutorial doesn't say "This is how Skrillex makes his bass" No, this is just a tutorial on how to make a SIMILAR talking bassline. Seriously. Stop the debate on whether he makes his bass like this or not, specially since he linked a tutorial in his facebook by the user Karasho using NI massive. And saying himself. "This is isn't how i do my bass lines." So shut the fuck up.
Now the tutorial? Excellent, I am so using this as a base to make other sounds.

why does everyone seem to think skrillex uses the m-talk wave in massive
Jamesbenn49 1 year ago

@jeremus1979 Nicely said.

@jeremus1979 I agree presets are cheating.
It's like ripping out a page in a coloring book and putting your name on it and say "he look at this picture I drew."
nicotinelolipop 10 months ago
@jeremus1979 for tut and learning purposes USE A FUCKING PRESET once you do that make a simple rythm THEN go fuck around with the knobs yourself, baby steps
TheMazithra 10 months ago
@TheMazithra for the first time ever, i fucked around & recorded with a Nord Lead...i had so much control, it changed the way i see plugins...not bad...just different. Don't be afraid to start with a simple sine wave and jack it up to filth...most people find this too daunting and think their sounds suck...but not the case.
jeremus1979 10 months ago
Ok. take synthesis 101. Learn Massive & FM8. Ditch the presets, work under a major label, let them mix/master everything while become a master programmer and study cutting-edge arrangements. The formula is pretty clear.

@BohemianAmmonoid who said anything about sampling transformers?

I seriously feel like going OH FUCKING REALLY on the 2 highest rated comments. Just shut up, this is just supposed to help us get how to make this kind of tone.
(whether it actually does a good job or not is a different thing)

DO YOU NEED NATIVE INSTRUMENTS TO RUN MASSIVE SYNTH?
OR CAN YOU JUST BUY MASSIVE SYNTH BY ITSELF?
dtopeth2 1 year ago
@dtopeth2 native instruments is the company that makes massive. massive is a plug in, it can be ran through all different programs like Fruity loops, logic, etc..
