@Gecko7291971 Yep. I'll try to record that one of these days. I haven't been able to record much lately so when I finally do there should be a few videos. Hopefully some of your favorites. Thanks for the request. -Owen
Owen ive got 2 say dude that was the best drumming of subdivisons ive heard in a tall time freakin awesome man.your very very good.youve got alot of talent,as well as your own style while staying true to the song struture.Rush is by far one of my favourite bands ever. You stay true 2 your dreams dude and have fun.KEEP ON ROCKIN MY MAN.PEACE OUT.
This was... Absolutely amazing man! You're gonna be the new Neil Peart! ;)
And btw, how do you tune your kit? It sounds amazing. I have a Pearl kit called "Pearl VSX (vision series)", it's a good kit but i suck at tuning so :(
I love Rush and Neil Peart is the man. I've tried to play stuff he does and it's good to see someone else doing it too... doing it better than me, actually. Very good stuff
YOU ROCK!!!!!!!!! Watch out Neil Peart..you may be replaced! Please keep all of us posted...and sign with the best record company there is... when you are bombarded with offers down the road! The world is your kid! Thanks, you just made another fan!
You know those videos people post of their little 6 year old brother supposedly playing a famous song but it stills sounds really really bad? Then in the comments people support the kid for playing bad and blah blah blah? I thought this was going to be like those videos. I was wrong. Very few mistakes, soudns very good, and you are at a young age. You deserve all your nice comments. Keep rocking.
the thidon't even have my own drumset. i have 5 guitars, 3 electric, 2 acoustic, a flute, clarinet, a mic, (im a huge singer) gosh, i even usse my friends drums. owen, you give me so much inspiration, i can hardly explain.
jeez, im 11 and i am surprized we are at the same level. people say i am really good, but i don't believe them. but i stand corrected. :D i love u owen! i wish we could just jam 2gether.
Owen, Moving Pictures was my first Rush cassette, yes, I said cassette. I started playing drums in 7th grade and Rush was always playing on my stereo too.
Neil is a great teacher of the rudimentary principles of drumming. Follow your dreams Owen...you have the gift. The future is what you make it.
dude sweet influence. i can tell you have a very excellent future set out for you. If somebody comments that you aren't doing well, just remember that not everyone's influences are the same. But you definitely have a very strong foundation and a solid connection to how to play well. Best of Luck!
Great Job! You are only going to get Better! Glad to see a young man like you listening to one of the greats! I was about your age when I first heard this song, hooked ever since. Kids these days don't know what music is, glad to hear that you listen to all styles of music, not just one. This band has been around 2 years before I was born and still going strong, got to see them play this live more than a half dozen times (they took it out of rotation for a while).
actually an awesome cover, nailed every detail. keep er goin and tell your parents to hook you up with some additions to your set! you deserve it. most drummers I jam with can't even handle this song and they're like 7 years older than you!
Owen, you are really good. I have to say it made my day to find these videos, so great to see a young kid that is into real music, and not the corporate garbage that is out there today. keep it up!
@OwensDrumming I hate rush >.< it just really annoys me im more into some heavy metal stuff like august burns red and haste the day and as i lay dying :( im sorry but keep on drumming my man ur pretty good
I came in here thinking, lol this fag wants to be Neil Peart but sucks, but actually he's just uber awesome, and he sets his kit up like Neil because Neil sets it up in the best way possible.
Being 11 and following Neil Peart is like a junior high kid dunking from the free throw line ala Dr. J and Jordan. Very ballsy, kid. And well done :-)
You've picked a wonderful inspiration in Mr. Neil Peart! This performance was very tight, you are very talented....just AMAZING!! Keep up the good work, kid! :)
Not sure what you are using for mics, one thing I like to use when recording is one or two PZM (Pressure Zone) mics. I place them on the wall to get a more ambient sound. I still mic my individual drums/cymbals, but the PZM mics capture the ambient sounds for a much fuller mix.
I've actually gotten to the point now where I enjoy people playing Rush more that watching Rush themselves. Why? Because its evolving talent that needs recognition and encouragement. well done.
I have been playing drum since the christmas day 2011 and I am already in a pretty good band named ANIMATION and i am on youtube but ur pretty good man keep going on it
Not bad man. Ur kit is awsome and u played with such great timing and precesion. Ur parents must be proud. I too play to rush. I also play some jazz and def leppard. Im mostly into Japanese Rock.
Hey dude... I'm 53 years old and have been playing since I was 8 and I don't think I could have played that as well as you did. Thanks for the post, that was awesome, for real !!!!
Are you sure you arent asian? OK, so I've read the comments and watched the video...and while I chose guitar and bass over drums years ago, I still have spent my time behind a kit. That being said you have chops kid, good chops. Now, a little time spent focusing on flow and consistency will do you well. Sometimes you have to pick a boring song to play over and over, you'd be surprised what it will do for you. Other than that...to quote Han Solo: "That's great kid, don't get cocky!"
Kid, this is what you were made for. You were built for drumming. Follow it wherever it takes you in life. Unless it's Islam. That TOTALLY screwed up Cat Stevens. Just saying. Rock on, Kid!
Dude, I am 4 times your age and I listened to them 30 years ago, and I have to say... you rocked it! It may or may not be note for note but it is a damn good rendition and my hat is off to you. Stay with your passion and see where it can take you. Good luck for your future, and keep rocking little buddy!
Don't know why some would think it's fake, you can hear things all through the song that show it's not, like some accidental rim shots etc. As for those saying you'll be better than Neil by the time you're 20, I'm sure you understand that playing along to another drummer's beats is one thing, but actually making them up yourself and fitting them into the structure and feel of a song is a whole different animal.
Whatever you end up doing, always play for the fun of it!
Uhhhh,, what happened in the very last second of the song??????? Joking of course. I wish I was half as good when I was 11 (he is 13 now everyone) on my old Ludwig set.
Id say since this IS a Neil Peart drum piece, take some time to jsut cool out and listen to how he lays the fills in. The stroke pattern is not jsut for flash, in fact Id say that Peart is IMO a non flash player. The strokes in his fill are crucial to the overall feel of the beat. Which brings me to my next point-along with the fill strokes and count, watch his accents and his punches are part of the overall feel so take care to lay them in on the pulse. Overall your feel is dead on.
@007fan97 Hey! Thanks for the comment!!!! Glad you enjoyed. I can assure you that this is 100% real. The only reason it might sound fake is because of the way I miked my kit here. I only used four mics, so I had to use much more EQ to get it to sound punchy. Also, YouTube's codecs completely alter the sound. Thanks!!!
I am crying tears of joy right now. an 11 year old is almost as good as Neil Peart himself. Keep Practicing and you can carry on his legend and maybe (I cannot believe I am actually saying this) surpass him one day. I will be subscribing and taking a look at you doing Limelight. You my friend are an example of pre-teen/teenage talent. Not the Rebecca Black or Beiber crap that people think is godly.
@chezjackson Too much. (lol) No, I'm only kidding. There never could be too much practice! I try to practice about 4 hours a day. One on latin, one on jazz, one on hip-hop, and one on Rush.
Hi Owen! My son and I love your videos. I am trying to learn Subdivisions. Can we download your video to my ipod? If not, no problem. Thanks for posting these videos. You are very inspiring! - Brenda
All you need to do now is grow into your set! lol great job! I was thinking of doing this acapella (unacompanied from rote memory) and still plan to!
Kudos on that really hard triplet part (the hardest one i'm sure u know which one) it'll be easier to get it smooth once u grow into the set (if that's your set).!
Bro I dont care what anyone says you do not need advice if anything they should take a lesson from you I love drums and you are doing a fantastic job keep it up bud!!!!!!!!!!
@heashon2000 Haha me too! to this day I have no idea why I was possesed to air drum for hours to spirit of radio, I had one full stick and one half a stick that was signed by a local rock band in western washington late 70's early 80's? lawls, it would seem i was not the only one air drumming to that cassette
lol all the people who give advice always seem to use big words to sound cool and try to act as if they kno more.. fact is there jelous they cant play as good as this 11 year old. you got talent kid dont take these fags advice, bcuz obviously, you already know EXCATLY what your doing.
Nice job... I have nothing to offer you but jealousy! :-) Are yo in a band? Have you met Neil Peart or heard at all from Rush? Either way, I encourage you to keep at it, as you are very talented! This is your calling! Cheers from Burlington!

I only wish I had been playing drums at your age, or had discovered Rush before I was 24...
I'm now learning Subdivisions, and your video on here is absolutely the best tool to learn from...
None of those flashy angles from the Peart videos...

When I was 11, I was air-jamming to Spirit of Radio. Nice to see you're further along than I was!
heashon2000 9 months ago
@heashon2000 Haha me too! to this day I have no idea why I was possesed to air drum for hours to spirit of radio, I had one full stick and one half a stick that was signed by a local rock band in western washington late 70's early 80's? lawls, it would seem i was not the only one air drumming to that cassette

Nice job... I have nothing to offer you but jealousy! :-) Are yo in a band? Have you met Neil Peart or heard at all from Rush? Either way, I encourage you to keep at it, as you are very talented! This is your calling! Cheers from Burlington!
