This reminded me of when I was a little boy living at three seven street in Kingston 12 and attending boy’s town school, as a youth back then I was so happy growing up in Kingston 12.
Hello. We are a new Reggae/Rock band from Miami named HYLLUS trying to be heard. We have many different influences and strive to create a new sound. Check us out for a new groove.
Anyone in UK know if I can get hold of the 2002 BBC2 documentary called "The Story of Reggae"? I think it's the one which had Steve Barrow's brilliant CD set to go with it.
This is a really great video but what is up with the random subtitles throughout? Is this a rough cut scene for an unfinished film that will have narration over it? If so I want to see this movie. Someone needs to make a documentary about the history of this music with interviews with some of the originators before they are all gone.
The video is taken from Thee BBC Documentary The Story of Reggae. It has great interviews with the great musicians and essentially maps out the progression of Jamaican music, starting with Jamaican independence. It goes through ska, sound systems, rocksteady, the rise in rude boys, UK ska, versions and dub, reggae as a rasta movement and so on, up to today. Really great documentary I suggest everyone to watch.
It's an old song (originally in bolero rhythm) from the Spanish-speaking Caribbean called "Quizas, Quizas, Quizas" - often sung in English and retitled "Perhaps, Perhaps, Perhaps". I've heard loads of indifferent versions but this one's quite good. As for the Artist here, I've no idea.
i agree with the comment about this music being infectious,i love it,ive listened to it for30 years and still getting shocks from classics ive never heard,i cant get into much after the seventies i dont listen to any of it ,its the old rootsy stuff for me like.regarding the skinhead thing, would i be right in thinking the original skinheads were jamaican, bob mentions the crazy baldheads.i went to see desmond decker twice in newcastle he has a massive white skinhead following,
I can't believe you searched for this video and type of music if you don't like it. Then if that wasn't enough you have to post a remark that momentarily takes away other peoples enjoyment. If you don't like it... just turn it off. I say momentarily because as soon as I hear this I can't help but smile :D
what makes these people tick, jamaican music across the board was class, you cant help but sing along, bit of skanking or just listen to musical genius,me and all my mates grew up with reggae and ska,and my kids and my grand kids love it,
and its still strong in my area in n/e england,if your parties a bit quiet put some dancehall on and the party will take off.

no manches muy buen video si k si uuuuuuuuuuuuuu hermosas canciones aaaaaaaaaaaaa no manches bueno suban mas de esta buena musica si k si uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu buenos tiempos buenos recuerdos ska si ska amo el ska
Every time I see pics of Don D., I still see him working that trombone glide in his backyard next door. Jamaica crashed when the kings of Drum an' Bass moved across the Pond...The filthy dreck of dancehall now blights the country. Now, there is noone who can blow with the virtuousity of Roland Alphonso. No one to pound a wicked high hat like Adrian Lye-Fook. The music sailed out of Kingston Harbour for good...
I've found out that Neville Staple of The Specials is publishing his biography - called "Original Rude Boy". You can reserve a copy on Amazon or the Waterstone's website. Apparently, Aurum Press is the UK publishers. My mole tells me there's some steamy stuff in it.
This is FABULOUS! it cuts across many ska eras. I'd like to hear who it is right at the end ...is it Desmond Dekker ?? anyway.. at the 4:28 minute point it's Robbie Shakespeare ( of Sly & Robbie fame) playing an upright bass . those 5 seconds are worth the whole show. - this is great. Is that Little Millie small at: 8:03 ??? also the original BMW with bob with a short afro style hair in a jacket and tie....awesome!
dyff ratings for this god knows can't forget the past future a get to slack starting to move like hip hop rate old school hip same with dancehall music rate old time dancehall and ska sound is original
Wow, what fantastic images of an era gone by! I Love the Skatalites!! I had never heard of them until meeting my boyfriend of 8 months, who is Jamaican. The Music, The People, and the Wonderful Food, what a fantastic heritage.
