  • ive just noticed that bill shaw never claps, interesting

  • J.D. Sumner had an exceptional, extraordinary, unique, beautiful bass voice! James Blackwood & The Blackwood Bros. were the best! :)

  • Boy I'd like to have 2 or 3 of those microphones...

  • Lindo. Maravilhoso.

  • Who is the pianist at the beginning?

  • @georgedebleu

    Whitey Gleason

  • não conhecia este quarteto antigo mas muito bom e espiritual como é o meu estilo favorito amei e, JD. Sumer é muito bom ....

  • Good!!!

  • I can imagine JD saying "get closer boy" when he pulls London up to the microphone. Listen to the note at 2:05 when they both lean into it. Fantastic song!

  • Who is the RAIL-THIN Bass singer standing next to J.D. Sumner ? I thought I was Skinny !!

  • That is London Parris.

  • @dutchyboy66 London Paris. He really sang lower than JD did but on one song they had a battle and London gave up, but he had a much purer voice than JD did.

  • @RonsGurl82488 if he sang lower than jd then why was jd in the guenius book of records instead of him

  • @SuperLuke1967 he gave up as i said in my last post

  • @RonsGurl82488 which song

  • Who's in the very back on the left behind Faye Speer?

  • Horace Parrish.

  • Boy does this song bring back memories! It is so associated with the Blackwood Bros. that it was the song the Oak Ridge Boys used when they did their imitation of the Blackwook Bros. in their song "Go out to the program". Another signature Blackwood Bros. song I would love to find is Bill Shaw singing his solo on "I Can't Stand Up Alone". Does anyone have a video or recording of this?

  • Yes, Chief was great on this type of song, but as you probably know, JD wrote this one and about 500 others. I was fortunate to talk with JD, Chief and London back in the sixties. They were all great.

  • OMG... JD, London Parris and The Chief all on the same song. I wish they wouldve let Chief up to the mike. He shoulda pushed JD outta the way....

  • omg that would have rocked, Chief would rock on this song.

  • can someone tell me how old J.d. is here?

  • Around 40.

  • more like 35 I think

  • He was born in 1924 and this video was from around 1965. You do the math.

  • hihi ok, i guessed the video to be 5 years earlier :)

  • Cool love these oldies! Thanks for sharing!

  • i see many of the same people here that were and are a part of the homecomings. Wow.

    London Paris and JD together.

  • I like JD but what a mic hog

  • He's gotta be closer to the mic than the other fellow for it to pick up the bass notes he sings.

  • Incredible video and music, thanks too much for upload this,Loving this music xD.

  • This is a great vid!! Love the way the groups join in. J.D. was cool cat!!

  • This was great..Makes me wish that Bill Gaither (or someone else) would have thought of the idea of the "Homecoming series" 15-20 years before he started it in 1996..

  • Wow! Did somebody else sit down at the piano with Whitey?

  • Whitey, could sound like 3 pianists on one piano!!!. What a Master on the ivories he was and was was one of the most under-appreciated and un-recognized...
