  • Is the mechanical engineering program good

  • UOIT is a fail attempted university.

  • @youbrokein Would you like to back up your statement?

  • @loveitorhateit101 yes, employers barely know about this shit hole, it's just a waste of money and degree. I would say study harder and get into better universities such as ryerson, guelph, york, etc.

  • @loveitorhateit101 i'm sorry but thats the truth about UOIT

  • @youbrokein Hah. I guarantee that you probably dropped out, and you are mad about that, so you're taking it out on UOIT's good name. And did you just say that York is better than UOIT? What a joke. If you can hold a fork, you can go to York.

  • Lmao! some of you don't realize how high end these computers are. They might not be appealing in looks but their specs are amazing. Also, look at the time that this was uploaded. If you do research on the their site right now, you will see that they are now using Dell XPS's/z which are high end gaming laptops. So you can imagine that they pack a lot of power. They wouldn't give you pieces of crap to work on, especially since most of the programs need high end, functional computers. Not cheap tho.

  • The whole laptop program is a joke. You pay $1500.00 per year to lease an ugly low grade laptop. And after 4 years of this garbage (and $6000.00 later), you can buy the lousy laptop for 1 dollar (assuming the laptop hasn't incurred any damage throughout these 4 years which you the student have to pay for). And why would they charge you $1.00 after having having already paid $6000.00? Simple, that way they can wipe all the software off your computer you have been paying for over the years :)

  • if anyone knows how to go to uoit without buying the laptop MSG ME !!

  • Ugliest laptop I have ever seen. They really know how to rip off students!

  • OMG!!! That model of Laptop is really wood !! How can students carry it anywhere !! should change it to a thin model , dude.

  • @popwceo But the Laptop has Rape Specs trust me I've seen the computer on Orientation and it can handle a lot.

  • Tools are there to utilize or destroy, we choose how to use them. If you're playing games (i.e., World of Warcraft, etc.) in class, then I personally do not see a reason to expend the energy and time to come to class while the same outcome can be achieved in your home. I for one hand feel I utilize the tool given to me, as to not waste the opportunity to learn and experience schooling in such a technologically advanced facility such as UOIT.

Don't blame the laptop, blame the irresponsibility.

  • Mobile learning is an awful idea. In any given lecture, 2/3 of the class are playing Crush The Castle and reading Facebook. Our classes are heavily based on textbooks and lectures, and only rarely do we use the ML software (at least for years 1 and 2).

  • A lot of people drop out of UOIT in their first year.

  • loool the mobile system is a rip-off.

  • Not at all actually - our tuition is deliberately less than other universities to compensate for it - which means it actually saves us money that would otherwise be spent in hard/software.

  • 2k a year for what? Software can all be downloaded and if anything you pretty much use the name software from the previous year.

  • Well to an extent...it really depends on your program and level of proficiency with computers but for some people in the engineering stream finding those programs (even as torrents) can be extremely difficult to do - plus it's updated every year so it's not as easy as I think you're making it sound.

My main point was just that tuition is lower and that counters the cost of the program. It's like getting a free computer and registered software...

  • im planning on going to UOIT for business or mechanical engineering (maybe even automotive eng.). does anyone know how reputed UOIT is in these areas of study?

  • google 'UOIT Wind tunnel" and you will find out a lot about the automotive engineering program

  • yeah i read about their automotive eng. program. the bad thing is im going into business for sure. and now i'm not sure UOIT is reputed for business yet.

  • I know lik 7 people who transfered from UOIT. And I only know lik 10 people rofl

  • Has its plus points, but no one knows it EXISTS.

  • how is this school's engineering compared to lets say... mac's or waterloo's?

  • Comment removed

  • I got accepted to and visited Queen's (<--overrated), Mac, and U of T.. liked University of Ontario the best because of the research opportunities, the laptop program, the brand new hotel-esque residences, the smaller campus, smaller classes, modern professors (obviously, all of whom are technology-sufficient), etc. My cousin went there for her BSc Honours, got great marks because of the great learning environment, and is now studying at Harvard.

  • software engineering includes calculus courses? what other courses at UOIT have calc involved?

  • the other engineering courses probably, maybe some of the harder business courses also

  • hmm, I hope Im making the right choice, coming here in fall 2009.

  • how so? I got transferred here, and its actually good, its got better residence than McMaster.

  • I think you've made a good choice. I'm graduating in a little over a month from the nursing program and have had a great experience at UOIT.
