    Marie Claire has erred: both heads of the bicep cross the shoulder joint and assist in glenohumeral flexion.

    Aside from that: assuming we accept that the long head is a stronger shoulder flexor: doing a frontal raise like this, if the long head is using its energies to assist the anterior deltoid in shoulder flexion, this means muscles like the short head and brachialis would have to pick up the slack preventing the elbow joint from extending. Oh sh

  • @GorillazFansy While I agree it's an anterior deltoid exercise, this will train the biceps since they prevent extension in the elbow joint and assist in frontal shoulder flexion. I'm not sure about 'well', I don't bother with subjective arguments like that.

    What I do question is whether or not this movement would preferentially hypertrophy the long head of the bicep. Very skeptical of that.
