  • Makes me think that this is what it would be like after an apocalyptic event.

  • Ive been here there like 4 houses and a cherch on the hillside not much to see just grass abouned sidewalks and roads

  • lol Those red ribbons were for the Mt. Carmel football team. Drive down the road to Shamokin and you would have seen purple ones (not because Shamokin fires are purple)

  • If anyone missed the movie, and would like to see it, message me and I will give you the link to the full 1 hour and 10 minute movie.

  • @Bunch341 yea i would like that link

  • @Bunch341 I'd really like to see this.

  • @Bunch341 if u can give me an online link that would be greatley appreciated about a year ago me my best friend and his mom went there to check it out we live in bradford pa r whole lives and never knew about this that place was really something ud have to see for your self but it was kinda a rainy day smoke wasnt as bad but i remember when we finally got home we were all nausiated

  • @Bunch341 hey, i missed it, cant seem to get it anywhere, would love it if you could link me up :)

  • Just went a month ago. Not much to see but still worth the trip. Driveways leading to nowhere. An old church. Cemeteries. Really a fascinating trip even today

  • in Canada mines cant be within 75 metres of a home

  • This never came out?

  • @davefs25 amazon have it movie

  • Excellent movie!

  • The "red ribbons" mentioned by the reporter were probably for support of one of the nearby high school football teams, the Mount Carmel Area Red Tornadoes or the North Schuylkill Spartans not to warn about the fires. Just wanted to point that out.

For those of you planning a trip don't go out of your way to see it there's really not that much to see. Some smoke coming out of holes in the ground, lots of graffiti these days, and a few oddities like stop signs in the middle of empty streets.

  • HA HA !!

  • its all about the money, what about the nature? so sad

  • OMG. CentraliaHeart where are you to see this one.

  • Moving story, such a tragedy. I live about an hour from there and plan to go in the very near future. It's amazing and sad how a once busy and populated town are now nothing more than a distant memory.

  • I lived there with my mom and dad. They divorced shortly after the govmt. kicked us out. This caused the divorce. My sister and I had to grow up without parents all because of this mine fire. It tore my parents apart when we had to leave.

  • I Blame whoever or whatever put the coal there to begin with. Someone should hang that bastard.

  • @ ChopPseudoFu : The earth naturally makes the coal, through hundreds and hundreds of years.

  • i live like 2 or 3 hours away one day i would like to got there

  • i live just a few miles away i went when this documentary was playing at the sovereign majestic in pottsville its an amazing documentary and a great town that was i go riding atvs through there every weekend

  • Just purchased this DVD. Looks awesome. I'm hoping to take a trip there next month.

  • I'm gonna visit Centralia on fri for and environmental Journalism class!

  • lucky you:)

  • been there billion times

  • SILENT HILL!!!!

  • This was a very sad situation. I remember when they evacuated everyone. I never heard of any hauntings there. Its not comparable to chernobyl in that retrospect. No one died. Its not a nuclear dump. If you go, just be respectful of the people who stayed. They are not a side show. And be mindful of the police that go through there. They patrol to make sure that crack heads don't make it their resting stop.

  • stupid govt didn't save this nice town. Paradis to HELL...

  • I need to see this movie

  • This was caused by bad govt, lazy govt, stupid govt. Burning Centralia is a monument to bureaucratic indifference, somnibulism, arrogance, indifference: principle contribution of INCOMPETENT BUREAUCRATS = DEAD WOOD.

  • @287654321 i disagree you see this cluster fuck happened because of what to believed to be a controlled trash fire (which was and still is legal in the state of pennsylvania) they didnt have any equipment that would determine a coal vein was at the site where the fire took place. the town county and state did what they could until the federal government jumped in and said " it took you 20 years and no progress that's it no more"

  • Did you know that there are three creepy things about the entire Centralia area? One is that most of the town is in ruins, but heck, there are actually still a good amount of people living there today. I know because I just visited Centralia today! Two is that the whole forest are that surrounds Centralia is supposedly haunted. And three, the movie Silent Hill was filmed in that are too! What not better to film a movie like that in a haunted area! Don't be scared of Centralia though, it's fun!

  • how many people do live there?

  • Well, even though that movie thing said that there was only ten people, there isn't. Of course, I went there during the summer time, and because of the lush growth in summer time, it was hard to see everything. But if you were to go during the winter time, you will see much more, due to less leaves and bushes and stuff like that. Not that there are many ruins to see there any more sadly, but. Anyways, judging by all the house I saw, maybe a population of about 50-60 or so.

  • I want to go to Centralia.

  • I'd like to see it someday too.

  • Comment removed

  • people seriously need to rate videos more....ive given this 5 stars

  • I am heartbroken yet humbled over this video. My family has lived in Centralia since the 50's and I lived there until '98. Now, the rest of us stay 2 miles away up the hill in Aristes.

  • I pre-ordered my copy on DVD last month and just got it yesterday, May 20. I truly thought I would never get the chance to see this movie. Now that I have, it's wonderful! I really enjoyed the bonus footage, especially the expanded interview with Todd Dombrowski. Any of you who views this video, you HAVE to own this movie! *****!

  • Why see the movie when you could just go there like I did. Unless if you don't live close by of course.

  • I was there this past April. Go over to my channel to see the video I made of my trip. The DVD gives valuable insight from those who lived there and also features old video from back when there was still life in the old town, and video footage of the demolition, all things you can't get simply by visiting there.

  • Im going there in a week, i know the fumes wont be as strong but im soo excited :) (im from britain btw)

  • Oooh this is exciting and disturbing and very, very cool.

  • GOOSEBUMPS!!! i used to drive thru this town every summer in the mid 80's when i was a little kid on our way to knoebels amusement park and remember looking out of the windows and being creeped out.another mine fire burning in china??? how abut another burning about 10 miles from my home in get this "SUMMIT HILL" PA "SILENT HILL" creepy haha anyway summit hill is about 30 miles east of centralia, but the fire isn't as big and we just built a new school like 5 miles from the fire haha

  • GOOSEBUMPS!!! i used to drive thru this town every summer when i was a little kid in the mid 80's goin to knoebles amusement park and looikin out the windows and being creeped out for some reason. and another mine fire burning in china...how about another burning about 10 miles from my home in summit hill, pa. "silent hill" or is it "summit hill"???? ohhhhhhhhh haha

  • I didn't know about this until I read of it in Bill Bryson's book A WALK IN THE WOODS. Few Americans have heard of Centralia.

There's a similar underground coal fire in China.

  • If I am ever driving up North I am going to stop by and attempt to explore. I really, really, really want to see Chernobyl too but I believe there is a big military presence guarding it. :(

  • u can still get in tho, u just have to know the language

  • no, its open to tourists, i've been there, its very scary.

some ppl say there are ghosts in chernobyl

  • Yeah I've looked into it. If I want to see Centralia that's an easy come in and look place. Chernobyl I'll just get on a tour bus or something.

I don't believe in ghosts though.

  • I was just at Centralia today, believe it or not. No joke. But, you can't really see the ruins of Centralia in the summer time, because of all of the plant life. Trust me, it would be better to go to Centralia during winter time.

  • there is, the destination truth went there

  • I REALLY want to see this. I first learned about Centralia in the summer of 2007 when my aunt and uncle moved to nearby Ashland. Unfortunatley, I was not aware that this documentary was circulating in some film festivals at that time. If there is any way to view or purchase this movie in the future, please let me know.
