I am not a republican, at least not a modern republican. I don't object to social safety nets, or the concept of NASA, but I am sick of NASA. Nasa has been in low earth orbit for about 35 years. Lockheed Martin designed an excellent Mars program that would have resulted in a permanent presence on Mars cheaper than even a moon mission. However, every pet tech at NASA had to be used and NASA created this impossible scenario and now Mars is off the table. NASA sucks.
there is a plan already being implemented to set up a permanent presence on mars. it will be around 2025 i think, been a while since i checked up on it though. as far as i know, it's still going ahead, they have developed special technology and shuttles that will set up a research outpost that will have hydroponics and synthesise air from frozen water or something along those lines. just google "mars mission" and look into it.

My only concern is whether or not the Texans were asking for the stimulus money to go to NASA in general, or just to Texas. Manned Space Travel is actually a necessity for our civilization, so money going to it is a good thing. (After all, who else would repair GPS and other satellites.) If the Texans were against bailing out non-competing companies and pro-Nasa when first voting against the stimulus, then I would agree with them. Otherwise, they're hypocrites.

If that organization shouldn't have gotten money but did anyway, then I want a share too. It's only fair.

If you followed the court case Roe V Wade you would find that abortion is constitutional and as a constitutional right you have to throw out the constitution and the bill of rights to throw out abortion.

My only concern is whether or not the Texans were asking for the stimulus money to go to NASA in general, or just to Texas. Manned Space Travel is actually a necessity for our civilization, so money going to it is a good thing. (After all, who else would repair GPS and other satellites.) If the Texans were against bailing out non-competing companies and pro-Nasa when first voting against the stimulus, then I would agree with them. Otherwise, they're hypocrites.

Cenk's argument is a non sequitur. One can easily argue that the govt shouldn't have intervened and then, if the govt intervenes anyway, ask to benefit from the funding. There's no contradiction. It's a non sequitur because Cenk has veered off into a new territory that is not necessarily relevant to the GOP's original position. It's not logically inconsistent to say, 'Hey, I'm against this funding, but if it's going to exist anyway, I want and deserve some of it!'
That being said, I would agree that it makes the Republicans look silly. But it's a position they can argue their way out of easily.
