This is a great performance from my favorite version of the 'folia.' It is, of course, an arrangement, as the "suonate a tre" were written for just two violins.
ive once heared the follia on youtube and thougt this is boring, y does everyone like it so much. and yesterday i watched again and WOW this is AWESOME. vivaldi made an epic peace. im sorry for all peple in the world that dislike classical music...
Excellent video. Excellent performance. Excellent piece. Just one question: Why is the lutenist shown for literally only one second (at 2:31)? Is it because he's bald?!
@jhm1313 It's not a lute; it's a small (presumably 18th-century) guitar. Maybe they only showed him briefly because he's not audible anywhere in the music. :-)
The secret to their great sound is having the musicians stand during the performance. They are allowed to be much more expressive by full mobility. Masterful!
Vivaldi's folia is so much better than corelli's. Corelli's folia is too boring, just looking at the sheet music made me go to sleep.Vivaldi's has very strong variations and are very fun to play, corelli's are just to simple.
@violabetch another Antonio wrote a wonderful Folia as well....the EVIL Antonio Salieri!!! Boo!! Hiss!!! j/k Antonio Salieri, in my humble opinion, wrote wonderful music! You must remember, however, Vivaldi was just going to the Seminary by the time Old Corelli wrote this...Vivaldi was much influeced by Corelli, as was Bach later by Vivaldi...too bad Bach considered writting these type of variations "frivolous"...oh, well he di give us the Goldberg variations, Passacaglia in c & the Ciaconna.
As in tuned lower? They're probably using some kind of baroque tuning which was at A415 instead of A440 or something similar. There was no standard pitch at the time though 415 is often used...
You know, Antonio Vivaldi was a virtuoso violinist so I think this is the best masterpiece than any other LA FOLLIA. This music is sooooo attractive!!
Mm these are brilliant, and played amazingly in this arrangement! Have you heard Corelli's? They're very much in the same vein, though instilled with his own musical language of course, but they're very attractive (try to hear Andrew Manze accompanied by Richard Egarr)
That's great, but I'm working on Corelli's La Folia.

I love when early music adds in "Capriccio Stravagante"... raw and brutal, as it should be.
