  • This show started coming back on Hallmark a few months ago but they didnt keep it on for long ;(

  • I was going to say that Charley was the bridge between Ed Norton of "The Honeymooners" and Kramer of "Seinfeld"... but apparently Kramer debuted first.

  • Quagmire Show Intro

  • 80's had the best TV shows, even if the acting was so...so. I always wanted Dianh Manoff to fart on my face. A big long wet fart

  • Kristy McNichol's last acting gig before she quit for good- she has bi-polar disorder. :-(

  • I miss empty nest and nurses

  • @RexFuJesus

this was the spin-off of "the golden girls"

  • TV went down the toilet after 1999. Same with music, movies, politics and life.

    2000's is a living hell.

  • @georgelopezblows I couldn't agree with you more.

  • This show was great for the first 3 or 4 years. But once Kristy McNichol left it started going downhill. When Marsh Warfield showed up, I was done. But still one of my childhood favorites. Amazing how good Saturday night television was then and now it is a complete graveyard.

  • omg. yes. i miss this show and Night Court

  • When I was 9 (and still do) had such a crush on Park Overall and that southern accent, and I am from Canada.

  • SATURDAY NIGHTS ROCKED.

  • @woodskendrick1 me too! Only thing that makes me happy is he and Richard Mulligan are in heaven together. I LUV Empty Nest! I use to watch it on UPN in the summer of 1998 when i was off from schoo. I was so sad when it wasn't on TV anymore after 1999 or 2000. Now Its on Hallmark channel every weekend! Check your local listings and set you DVR's or TiVos!

  • Both Richard Mulligan and Dinah Manoff were on "Soap" together :)

  • This was a great follow-up to Golden Girls and became an unofficial spin-off just by having them live across the street from one another (and then Nurses was added to the two shows as well). Anyone remember when NBC aired "Hurricane Saturday" where all three shows dealt with the same storm?

  • i loved dreyfuss.he's probably dead by now.

  • Ah Empty Nest. When I was a kid Id know that the TV would go off the air in 30 minutes when this came on.

  • this was one of the best tv shows of all time

  • What a depressing theme song for a sitcom

  • @TelesterionFilm When the top 2 sitcoms of the era consisted of a bunch of old people in Florida living out their final years on Earth, it was infact a depressing time for sitcoms.

  • @Arrowhead2k1 Actually the Golden Girls was very funny. I think the 2000s are a depressing time for sitcoms.

  • @RetroJenny

I agree. There seemed to be almost NOTHING on in regards to good shows. Since 2000, most networks have had nothing but reality shows, and stupid sitcoms that are not funny at all. A funny joke in one of those current day programs won't even make you crack a smile at all.

  • I remember watching this show as a kid waiting for Freddy's Nightmares to come on after it

  • you gotta love billy vera and the beaters!

  • I was always a buck bundy man myself, by dreyfuss was a pretty cool tv dog too.

  • I loved this show as a kid. I actually have a stuffed dog I named Dreyfuss after the dog on here

  • I use to watch this when it was in syndication on Channel 9 Mondays - Fridays at 9:00am and 9:30am in the summer of 98 when I was on summer vacation. I miss this show so much! I wish they would put it out on DVD already!!!

  • Saturday nights on WTVA Channel 9 NBC Tupelo, Mississippi

  • richard mulligan reminded me of one of the muppets.

  • @m2inla i bet your thinking of sam the eagle!

  • @dms78 that must be the one. as i recall he was purple and had a flat top.

  • Thank you guys for your kind words. It is so great to see that so many of you have good memories with this show and your families, too. :)

  • what a depressing intro...

  • Kristy McNichol was SO damn hot on this show, until she cut her hair short later...

  • what kind of dog was dreyfuss?

  • i use to love this show when i was a kid

  • Saturday nights on Channel 9 WTVA Tupelo, MS before cable invaded our neighborhood.

  • Reminds me of being over at granny's house on Saturday nights...this and Golden Girls. I can't express in words how much I miss those days. Makes me happy and at the same time sad to hear this again after all these many years....80's and 90's will live on in my little world forever.

  • @Bansheeeyes78

I don't need to write a comment because you took the words right out of my mouth. Same here. Thumbs up!

  • @Bansheeeyes78 LOL I always watched this and Golden girls with Grandma... haha...

  • @Bansheeeyes78 Dido :)

  • @Bansheeeyes78 I actually had the same experience. My mom would leave me at my grandparents house on Saturday nights and this and the Golden Girls would be on. It's crazy how many people of our gen. share these similar memories from our youth. TV just isn't as memorable anymore.

  • @swind15

we share it all as live goes oooonn......remember Dear John?

  • @snatchadams69

Which was actually a British sitcom.

  • lavern is hot

  • Comment removed

  • dreyfus is almost definitely dead now. and so is richard mulligan.

  • @RyanInLA hahahahaha fuck yeah, old Dreyfuss took his dirt nap long ago!

  • I haven't seen this since it was NEW

  • This show was great!

  • I sure hope this makes it to dvd!!

  • how cute @ 0:01 Dreyfuss was cool

  • Dinah Manoff had nice legs.

  • @Gerkinstock david leisure had nice legs too!

  • Oh Great! I finally find the version of this theme song that I like and the beginning is cut off. I just can't win. LOL

  • Empty Nest was a good show. It came out the same year that my Grandfather died and the theme song itself was telling me to move on and move forward with my life After all "Life goes on and so do we"

  • I wish they would put this to dvd!

  • the 1st line is cut off..bummer..great show though!

  • My mom loved this show..miss ya mom

  • @skuzzyknuckles god bless you and your mom

  • I really enjoyed watching this show every week. A Delight!

  • I never cared for the Golden Girls (teenager in the mid to late-80's), but for some reason, I liked Empty Nest. The uptempo version of this theme >>> the original imo.

  • Loved Empty nest. always wanted a house like theirs back in the day.

  • i never payed much attintion to empty nest but i loved the golden girls and the golden palace

  • I never liked the golden girls but I did liked

    empty nest

  • This was a good show.

  • How was this show a spin-off of the Golden Girls?????

  • i dunno i remember being a kid and watching it. i know the oldest golden girl was her name estelle? she made a few appearances on the show. maybe they were related somehow i was to young to remember.

  • They were the next door neighbor to the golden girls..

  • old people yammering blah blah blah

  • Stupid young moron Andrea20453.

  • Harry Weston was a neighbor of theirs. Him, Carol, Babara, and Dreyfus made many appearances on the Golden Girls.

  • He was their neighbor. He appeared in a couple of Golden Girls.

  • It was a spin-off. They were supposed to be the neighbors. One of the daughters had stopped by the "Golden Girls" in an episode or two. Oh, and once the dog ran through the kitchen doors and through their front door.....it was really random. I hope this helps

  • Harry Weston played a neighbor on the Golden Girls, and Rose and Sophia made several guest spots on Empty Nest

  • Dinah Manoff is the spitting image of her mom..

    Both Beautiful Woman

Actress Lee Grant for those who didn't know

  • why would anyone mid age atill be living with theree parents reverse revolution

  • it was david leisure who really made the show work in my opinon

  • oh yes this is right! good song for this show memory young fun

  • yes he nawas dreyguss canyou get it yroble for having youtbe if you have 2 accounts

  • i love david leisure.....isuzu guy

  • Hi I'm Joe Isuzu (He's Lying) LMAO loved those commercials

  • That theme song still makes me smile.

  • I SO used to beat off to the first daughter, the first pic they showed.

  • She's a lesbian in real life.

  • Kristy McNichol's a lesbo? Damn there goes another batter for the other team

  • Great having a satellite dish in the mid-90s. Buena Vista would air these all day at random periods for their affiliates.

  • Nostalgia 3:16

  • this shit sounds like a Harry Nillson jam.

  • Yep, his name was Dreyfus. He made a few appearances on Golden Girls too, which is what Empty Nest was a spin-off of.

  • Wasn't that dog's name Dreyfus? Why do i remember that?

  • When did Estelle Getty appear on Empty Nest?

  • Another thing, "Empty Nest" had followed "The Golden Girls"(It's parent sitcom)on NBC(Their station) until 1992, because "The Golden Girls" went off that year.

  • and during the 1991-92 TV season, NBC had what they called The Miami Hurricane of sitcoms with all 3 Susan Harris shows. The Golden Girls, then Empty Nest, and wrapping it up with the 1st season of Nurses, the spin-off of Empty Nest.

  • I know, it was called "NBC Hurricane Saturday", because of the fact that all three shows were on Saturday nights on NBC, especially in 1991 and 1992. They had the two-parter(although it was an hour-long) episode of "The Golden Girls", then what you said., "Empty Nest", and the then-new spinoff, which was "Nurses".

  • I always liked Dinah Manoff. She had a nice rack! :)

  • ahahaha this was my fav. show as a kid...and i always used to think that it was the show "life goes on" because of the song LOL...you know that show with the retard for a son CORKY??? LMAO ...I was always like OMG THEY CHANGED THE CHARACTERS ON THE SHOW OMG!!! OMG OMG!!! LOL

  • That's mean...he had down syndrome. Retard is such a cruel word.

  • Is it really? I mean couldn't anything really be considered a cruel word? I think the term "mentally challenged" is cruel..So please..Use the word retard. thank you

  • David Leisure! The star of the awesomely hilarious "Joe Isuzu" commercials for Isuzu Motors!

  • awesomely hilarious? More like moderately bemusing.

  • This is the first season opening credits[1988-89 season]of "Empty Nest". There were three different version of the "Life goes On" theme(Sung by Billy Vera, written by George Tipton, and John Bettis) and THIS is the original version, with it's melancholy, slow like theme....

  • i miss this show anyone have an idea about its dvd release?

  • This show sucked awful, just had to make sure

  • I am still waiting for the dvd sets. Man this show is missed. I love comedies and this one was a super one. I hope others will start demanding a dvd set of the series be put out.

  • thanks for your uploading it's a good remenber

  • werenotcrows I understand. lol

  • great show! Love Dreyfuss the dog!

  • Why can't TV now days be this good? Give me a time machine!, i wanna go back so freakin' bad.

  • I have to agree..these times are so sadly missed.

  • I agree. F@ck reality tv.

  • that was cool.. brings back memories.. thanx for posting!!

  • I see this and I'm 14 again. Parents and older brother went out and I was stuck at home, this show became a favorite of mine. If I'm not mistaken Amen preceeded this and The Golden Girls,Dear John, and Sisters proceeded it.

  • Great spin off of the Golden girls

  • Billy Vera sang this theme.

  • No Way! I didn't know that! I guess "At This Moment," I do!

  • I always wanted a dog like Dreyfuss as a kid. :)

  • Joe Isuzu ruled!

  • I loved this show growing up lol. Saturday Nights on NBC...227, Amen, the Golden Girls and Empty Nest. LOL...my dad liked Hunter. Haha

  • I thought Dinah Manoff was so cute....

  • Empty Nest was one of my favorite programs growing up. It was "reality tv" before the fake reality tv that we have today.

Empty nest showed me that it was alright to be a single father with a dog and have two unmarried adult daughters.

Another favorite was Dear John, the guy whose wife skipped town only leaving a brief goodbye note on the kitchen table.

Nowadays, Eastenders is must-see tv for me.

  • I loved this show! It was so funny and it was one of my favorites.

  • I used to watch this show on a rare with my Mom when I was little. I thought this show was ok,but I liked "The Golden Girls" better,I wouldn't mind it if they put it back on like Nick @ Nite or ION TV,maybe then I would learn to like it more.

I know I used to dance to the opening theme song version which had a cool beat to it.

  • You are entitled to your opinion, but please, maintain your composure.

  • Can someone post an episode?

  • porbwebly if anobdy hasan epsiode some times it takesa while

  • I remember the day Richard Mulligan died, I was so sad.. I had been watching those Empty Nest reruns on WGN like a year prior.

  • Dinah Manoff from Child's Play(1988), the first victim of chucky.

  • I remember this show. This was back when TV was worth watching.

  • wow.... man shows arent what they use to be!!!

  • Saturday Night Memories...

  • The better of the two theme songs. I couldn't stand the faster version.

Used to love this show!...they don't make em like this anymore.

  • I'm too young to appreciate it when it ran, but I remember the title of the programme (and the Golden Girls). But from what little I can remember from the two shows, they were certified hilarious!

  • And by the time the 1991-92 TV season came along, NBC had that "Miami Hurricane" trio of Susan Harris shows in "The Golden Girls" (its final season w/ NBC), "Empty Nest" (4th season), and also "Nurses," a spin-off of both TGG and Empty Nest.

  • oh i

  • oh I remember watching that night when it originally aired! Fun times.

  • This is the line up I remember as a kid. Classic! lol

  • R.I.P Richard Mulliagn, damn I miss the great shows we used to have.

  • I miss Richard Mulligan!!

  • Yeah I wish they'd re-run this somewhere, like the Golden Girls. I miss Dreyfuss!!

  • I always thought that dog was the coolest.

  • oh boy, i used to watch EMPTY NEST so often when it was on the air on german tv many years ago and i liked both versions of the opening. i miss this show, i really do :(

  • do u have the garth brooks episode?

  • They don't make sitcoms like they did from the 80s to the mid 90s. Especially tv theme intros. I remember when this came on after Wings. I also miss Wings.

  • Can anyone post an episode?

  • I want this serie on DVD!!!

  • Kristy Mcnichol is bipolar ?

  • Me too. This show made me want to move down to Miami next door to the Golden Girls. I want my house to be like the one from Empty Nest, or the Golden Girls.

  • lol, me too, i was willing to sleep on the couch or in the doghouse even,..

  • Ah!! This show made me want to be a retired old man even as a little kid.

  • more good memories!!!! my mom and i used to watch this all the time!

  • This brings back memories! I remember my dad watching this and I all I could think was wishing I had a dog like that!

    What was the dog's name?

  • Dreyfuss. He was great.

  • no man... the original is the best! damn... i feel old watching it!

  • I agree that the original intro is far superior. It was a show about a man whose daughters were grown up and whose wife had died, and his learning to cope with being alone in the home where he raised his family and discovering how to live for himself again, and the original credits do a great job of illustrating that and fit perfectly with the theme. It's wonderful...you don't often see an opening sequence that tells you everything you need to know and does it that subtly.

  • And I hate that cheesy disco-sounding version of the theme from later on lol.

  • I think the second intro for the later seasons is a lot better and more colorful.

  • oh yeah...sophia even got to become a cast member of the show in its last 2 years after The Golden Palace went bust. she would show up in the house at random moments, and make sophia type put downs, it was a pretty good way to continue her character but it was a little distracting having her there, the show could more then stand on its own, after all they had Laverne!

  • Quagmire is Charlie! I thought Q was supposed to be a generic type of sitcom character, the sex crazed pal like Larry on 3's Company or Dan on Night Court (now he was the sexpert!) but Charlie wore Hawainn shirts, always brags about the chicks he was seeing, always dating hot chicks that he treated like crap, always there for Harry but a bit creepy just the same! He totally is Quagmire!

  • it was my favorite ...:>

  • I loved this show too.

Doesn't the character that David Leisure played remind you of Glenn Quagmire in Family Guy?

    It can't be just coincicence...

  • I luved this show so much!! It use to be on UPN on weekdays here at 9-10:00am back in 98-99.I wish they would release it on DVD.

  • I aint seen this show in years! Last time I saw it was probably on either Lifetime many years back or on WGN.

  • Was the intro filmed in Miami? Looks like west coast...our beaches are flat. I may be wrong...

  • Like it's parent show "Golden Girls," "Empty Nest" was also situated in Miami. After all, the Weston Family lived across the street from where Dorothy, Blanche, Sophia, and Rose stayed at, right?

  • Oh the memories...and the better theme song.

  • This brings back great memories of when my great grandmother was still alive, and I'd be there watching this downstairs or upstairs sitting on her lap...Gawd I hope someone ups the last episode in FULL if any of them.

  • I used to watch this show, when iwas younger...AWW i did't know he died, also did't know it was a spin off from golden girls

  • Oh please! This show was the best!

  • Dinah Manoff was cute!

  • this was a spin-off of The Golden Girls

  • Thank you for posting it.

    R.I.P Richard Mulligan
