  • I live in the city and do not have access to chickens and farm animals. Is there another way? Also I do not want to buy 10 rabbits.

  • Should the Earth worms hang out in the soil bed with plants on the bed ?

  • Great vidio

  • Like your video's

  • Hello, Is it safe to use un-organic fruits and veggies for composting? Will your soil be tinged with chemicals?

  • I'm definitely a HUGE fan of compost. It fixes pretty much everything in a garden for me. Patti, send someone over to de-weed my garden, k? :)

  • i got worms in my compost yesssssssssssssssssssssssssss i saw them yesterday and i didnt put them there they came too me lol

  • Your amazing!

  • Good video. How about ants?

  • I seem to have grubs in my raised beds, is this common even with worms in the beds?

  • organic is the way to go!

  • Patti, how long before you planted after you housed your chickens in the soil? I know Chicken manure is pretty "hot" and can burn roots. I usually pull a mix of chicken manure and straw out of my barn and either throw it in my compost pile for awhile, or if it is mostly composted already from sitting in the barn all winter, put some of it on my fruit trees.

How long do you let your chickens roam in your soil?

  • @deadflo Actually chicken manure can be used in the soil immediately. It isn't considered hot like cow manure, which has to sit for some time.

  • @susannamcintyre

Hey , check ANY link online to chicken manure. The exact opposite is true. Chicken manure is cited as the HOTTEST manure of them all. I can't find one link to anyone saying you can put in in your garden without composting.

  • @deadflo Thank you for correcting me on that. I have always just put it in my garden and have had no problems. I will probably start putting it into the compost bin from now on. Thanks again.

  • would urine be acidic to worms as an organic material?

  • you are awesome

  • hu·mus /ˈhyuməs or, often, ˈyu-/ Show Spelled[hyoo-muhs or, often, yoo-] Show IPA

    –noun

the dark organic material in soils, produced by the decomposition of vegetable or animal matter and essential to the fertility of the earth.

  • When I first started planting my current garden it was regular "construction soil", Hard clay, dead, and no worms.

I don't "compost" per se, as I consider it to be a lot of work. But every fall all my leaves go on the garden plot. In the spring whatever hasn't decomposed is raked aside and used as mulch.

Now after 15 years, my plot of soil is dark, full of humus, and alive with earthworms!

  • Great info. Many people dont realise the importance of soil and more importantly - that soil is ALIVE! Properly produced organic soil that is. Proper composting is so important and im glad you mentioned the vital worms!!! Great clip :)

  • very nice video

  • I think that is a good idea about the worms. I never thought about that difference!
