I rented the movie the other night and jotted down the PT Walkley songs at the end of the credits. Beats me which one it is though. "Punch Drunk, Trainwreck, One Wish, Dig your own grave, First Noel, Goodbye."
Lighten up UALLL....Having Grown up in Mississippi and Kentucky / Tennessee the only people who get insulated by a movie like this still have family living in the Hollers...And if they are still in the Holler's they don't give a shit about any thing out side a 20 mile radius except how the State university basketball or football team is doing that year.
I agree with Calie. This is NOTHING like the South. People just want to feel superior to something, anything and in America the richer north still picks on the South and that is barbaric. Its funny how people up here don't even KNOW about the classy side of the South or the code of chilvalry and Southern Gentalmen and good manners. They learn about the South from stuff like this? I would rather be taken out by a Southern guy any day than a yankee.
This movie is shamful just like all the others out there that promotes the South as a bunch of rednecks. At one time, we were a nation fighting for our Independence. The yankee textbooks have taught our young that the war was over slavery, that we are a bunch of white trash, and that just isn't so. Heros like Jackson, Stewart and Lee were just a few noble men who fought not to perserve slavery, but to have freedom for all! Southerns need to educate themselves on the truth and not sorry shows!
YES, that's exactly what I said. The first slave ship to sail the ocean blue did not have a confederate flag flying over it, it was the good ole USA flag. Remember the one who wins the war gets to write the history. Freedom for all is what I said and what I meant.
You're not making any new ground here; stating that the first slave ship to sail the ocean had an American flag and not a southern one (which is a laughable "fact" in and of itself). The slave trade of Africans across the Atlantic began *before* the US was a country so the flags the ships were flying were of European countries. But I don't see what any of this has to do with the claim that the South's secession from the Union was about "freedom for all".
There was still slave trade going on and they were brought over here by a ship flying the US flag. Rober E. Lee or Stonewall Jackson NEVER owned slaves, but. Grant sure did. The South was fighting the second war of independence. Slavery was dying on the vine, but there are certain kinds of people that like to keep the lies going with half truths. The North owned them too which was wrong, but that's the way it was back then. Remember the truth will set you free!
Yes, I don't think that we really disagree on all that much. The South was fighting for *its* freedom ("it" being the whites of the south). In your initial post you stated that the South was fighting for "freedom for all" which isn't true unless you do not count the blacks living there (which would be a drastic mistake for they outnumbered the whites in some states). I am aware that Grant owned *a* slave that he set free, but Lee was a staunch opponent of abolition. Jackson was a bit better.
First off , I stand to the truths which I have stated here. Second off where in the world did you get the info. that USELESS Grant owned (1) slave. I'm not for slavery, but you know what that is the way it was back then. The North had slaves too, so Im not buying what you're trying to sell me. I'm sorry for your hatred against the South, but remember one thing, the one who wins the war gets to write the history! This movie is shamful and I am proud to be SOUTHERN BELLE!
I never said I hated or even partially disliked the South, so I would appreciate if you would recant that. Ulysses Grant did have one slave, his wife had others, but he had one to himself who he freed. It is possible to actually do research on the internet as well as debate over Youtube. And I'm not trying to "sell" you anything; that would imply that what I'm saying to you has been untrue which, with just a little research on your part, will reveal that it is fact.
This is a typical stereotype of the south, the idea that every southerner had slaves in their backyards. The truth that only a few wealthy families owned slaves and the majority of people were farmers, struggling to get by, doesn't really make since to Yankee's. The fact that blacks were brutally murdered by the families of Northern Soldiers, doesn't make a lot of their history books either. The EmacProc only freed slaves in States the North had no control over, Just as WOMD in Iraq, read up...
This is such a slept on movie. MASSIVELY SLEPT ON. Great little refreshing indy movie. I liked it alot. Very different, unique and quite funny to. The acting is well done also.
