Beautifully done; even though I am Nigerian she she is from Benin, we are both from the same tribe(Yoruba) and she is representing Yoruba's very well.
@Hetem1985 Same genre of rhythm throughout Benin Republic and south west of Nigeria. It's called JUJU music perfected for year by FELA Ramson Kuti. It sang in Yoruba and Nago two similar languages share by both west African countries.
@planetolusola Juju music has always existed in the time of our ancestors from Kingdom of BENIN, to Harona Ishola. everyone has interpreted the best of their ability. I just love it. Etche ou O baba...
The song came out in 1969 in the thick of the Nigerian war, and plays on one of the current slang expressions at the time. "Ina ran": easy combustion, as in a raging battle, anger or bedroom passion! Other expressions of the time: "O le ku! Ija Ore!" (It's tough to death! The battle of Ore!)and "Soyoyo" (Skin bleaching), which Ishola also sang about. The really wacky one was "Ko si iya weere l'Eko" (A lunatic has no mother in Lagos!" Even now Lagos wisdom is all about minding your own business.
Well, talk about coming back from the dead for Haruna Ishola! A fine tribute to one of the major influences on Yoruba music across all genres. Kudos to Zeynab for bringing the song alive almost 40 years after. Tilda has been doing the same with Nico Mbarga, including his "Sweet Mother", and gestures like these two examples deserve all possible praise and encouragement. The sons of other major names in our music (+ Musiliu Ishola) ought to be doing the same thing, refining their fathers' music.
You so right Outre, i still got the original version on a tape....lol...imagine it is a gift from my dad...now zeynab , my direct cousin, is singing it again...my mum is even in that clip...
