Concerning to her german language skills: in this time (1999/2000) she was just beginning to learn german. Today, she is fluent and nearly perfect (I am german), I think you have to be fair in this case.
Concerning to her qualities in voice development attention should be payd to she is one of the best opera singers today!
And by the way: she won this conest! ;)
(I hope you can unerstand me, I am not as fluent in english as she is in germab ;) )
boring. She barely registers any emotion, yet the song is highly charged and emotional. She seems to be more of a technician than anything else. Nothing wrong with that, just not my taste.

Her German pronounce is horrible - non si canta così il Repertorio Tedesco -Il problema di questa Donna è che canta TUTTO con un unico stile : il proprio - Her french , as Charlotte , is not good-her german here , is not good ....she sing everything in the "russian way" , like all the Russians Mezzo : Obratsova and so on . Not bad ...but not good !! Normal .
English is a Germanic root and there are a lot of words that are the same, or very similar. I would say if you are going to learn a foreign language and speak english then this would be the one. :)
In the piu animato section. She goes back to "Fest ist der Stahl" which is from the first verse of the B section, stumbles a bit on "Sie konnen zergehn," and then keeps going again in the right words. I'm sure it'd be more noticeable if I spoke German, but I only know this because I did the song. I do agree she's a phenomenal young mezzo!
aaah she was suposed to say Eisen und Stahl. That was a good save of her. Thank you for answering me and for your first coment! I sung it too many years ago :) amazing how easy you forget hehe
I think the date is incorrect... Garanca was about 15 years old in 1991! Anyway, I'm always amazed at the quality of her vocal instrument. If she gets improving and aiming the best possible vocal performance, I think she has the potential to be one of the greatest mezzos ever! ;-)
Why is this just the last minute of the song???

Yes, in 1999 she was beautiful and had a beautiful voice. Where is her beauty and a voice now?

@Desideria7 Singing is even better, and unless you only like really young girls, she's just as beautiful, but more adult.

And what a remarkable talent --and not just for languages! She could well be an extraordinary extension of the Stratas-phere!

We all know that today she is (nearly) perfect - so please tell me: who is so young and does it better? ... Even the emotions maybe deeper I think...
