Goyroyni: I don't want to get into fighting with U by this, check Dennis Azabagic's interpretation and perhaps you can see what I mean with my comments about speed. Good Bye :)
@dareldiprog Agreed. Azabagic's interpretation is beyond compare...haven't found one better so far. I don't think William's Allegro was so much slow as it lacked sufficient drama coming in after the other fast movements.
This version is not as good as other ones, the preludio and the andante are played too fast, and the allegro to slow, in my opinion, this destroys the essence of this masterpiece, and keeps us away from certain feelings I can experience by listening to other versions. I know John Williams is a really great guitar player, but this performance does not feet his regular level.
He is consistent with his previous recordings/performances of this piece, so basically that's how he plays it. If you prefer other guitarists' renditions that's totally fine. Let's not forget though that it was JW who revived Barrios' music.
As for your speed comments:
1st movement, the melody is in the high notes, if you focus on it you'll see the speed is fine.
2nd movement, you could be right if it was choppy due to speed but it isn't. It convinces very well.
John Williams es el más grande guitarrista en la historia de la guitarra...Esto no deja fuera de lugar a otros notables intérpretes, que los hay y muchos..Pero, John en muchos aspectos es único, es un músico notable y que además, es guitarrista!
Thank you "Jllobet" for posting this video I too attended the John Williams concert at the University Auditorium. at U.F. and had the privledge of speaking to Mr. Williams backstage about his music. His playing (as always) was astonishing. I found Mr Williams to be as ingauging in conversation as he is in recital. Mr. Williams come back to Florida soon.
The acoustics at the kimmel center in philadelphia on 3/24/09 were awesome when John Williams performed this haunting Barrios masterpiece. Awaiting John williams' new cd for his solo compositions in the mail. Thanks John for coming to America,
Please check Berta Rojas' version . it's much more tone detail than Denis
Azabagic.
And John's version not good as his other version. But I think if I choose one for
me,Berta Rojas win the game. She so good at Barrios Mangore's songs.

John Williams is so amazing. I really think he may have caught up on some zzz's while he played through.

I am a rock guitarist by nature but i now realise that is only because i have about as much talent as he does in one of his nose hairs.

@pennthebaker I used to be fully rock, but I realized the error of my ways. It's not too late to repent, brother. Join us classical guitarists!
