Very beautiful as Margaret Price almost always sang. And for me, this is the most beautiful song composed by Mahler. When was this recorded? I would guess in the 1980s.
One of the most touching interpretation with a superb legato and musically with a dynamic of colors rarely attained until now. Margaret Price is also incorporating the words into the music without any exacerbation and mannerism. Thank you for posting this amazing video. Sadly Dame Margaret passed away on January 28,2011. We lost one of the most glorious voice !
dame margaret price is my favourited singer with songs from mahler and schumann. i think, it´s because of the sweet elegic tone in her voice and this is necessary for the most songs of these composers. it´s touching my soul deeply... god bless her !!
The emotional depth and profundity of Ruckert set by Mahler is unparalelled huh? Who could possibly compose a more profound representation of the resolution of the grief on the death of one's child that we hear at the end of In diesem Wetter, or the existential reflections that we hear in Urlicht or Ich bin der Welt?
The most wonderful song ever written? I agree! My favorite version is by von Otter (on the DG recording) - it is sublime and the orchestra is magical too.
this is a performance of the mahler-ruckert as the final aria of the heroine in act iv: utterly convincing as opera--price's voice is not lieder here; even her wonderful body language is a bit too realistic for lieder--a bridge too far maybe--one bridge between lieder and opera is the strauss orchestral song (esp 4 last)--the somewhat younger price was (and is on record) the unequalled standard for SCHUMANN leider...but i never saw her live...
For a second I thought it was an awful-70s-hair-phase of Abbado, too... but a second look reveals it is Wolfgang Goennenwein having an awful 70's-hair-phase. :-)
Wonderful! Beautifully sung, with a tremendous connection to the text. A real treat to see and hear one of my favourite sopranos of all time! It's very easy to hear why the great Carlos Kleiber chose her for Isolde. I think her Liebestod is one of the very best. Brava Margaret and thank you GrandTier Box for posting! I hope you check on these to see how much joy you bring to music lovers everywhere!
Yes yes yes!!!

Margaret.... so under-rated here... as per usual, the class system can only acknowledge true artists under extreme duress.
I shall be listening to and learning from Margaret for a long time to come. May she rest deeply in peace x

Definitety NOT Abbado

To me, the conductor seems to be Abbado.
midrest778 4 years ago
I sure it isn't. Abbado isn't left-
handed. That should make your job
easier. I don't know who he is but
his orchestra are very sensitive to
the music and the oboe soloist is
terrific!

What a wonderful artist - one of my all-time favorites. Who are the orchestra & conductor? Do you have any more vids of her? (pant pant)
