Can someone please tell me the rules of getting in this race? Why are some automatically in it and others need to qualify or get voted in??? I just don't understand the rules and would like to. Maybe I will feel better knowing them then sit and wonder why Robby Gordon isn't in it again this year.
21 drivers are in the field because either 1) they've won a points race between the start of the '07 season and last week at Darlington 2) they've won the All-Star Race in the last 10 years or 3) they've won a Cup championship in the last 10 years.
3 more drivers will make the race: 1) the top 2 finishers of the 40-lap Sprint Showdown which is run right before the All-Star Race and 2) whomever of the lead-lap finishers in the Showdown received the most votes from fans in a poll at NASCAR Online.
Robby has a legitimate shot at making the race in either of these scenarios; he starts 5th in the Showdown and his sponsor Jim Beam has funded an aggressive campaign to get him the fan vote.
Thanks! I just watched it and understand. I also think that Elliot Sadler may have actually won the vote but since he crashed and couldn't race anymore...they gave it to Kasey kahne. Am I far off base or what??? L And as you know both Robby Gordon and Elliot Sadler are out. Oh well. Next year. There is plenty of racing yet to go and I would LOVE to see either one or better yet...BOTH in Victory Lane this year!
