I pay the same dues as you guys and takes classes just like you had to in your apprenticeship for the same goal.To become a JW. So what is the problem? Speaking for myself im not trying to take anybodys job.Im just trying to feed my family as part of a brotherhood JUST LIKE YOU. This is a way for US to survive as a union to compete with non union small work.So back off a little bit and remember that we are still BROTHERS and im paying into your retirement fund.
As America falls everyone scrambles for what pie is left kicking and stabbing there brothers in the back as they go.The IBEW is just another corporate sell out stealing what it can from the salt of the earth type members as they go down in flames.Lets Take it out on the district heads and international reps not each other.I see sometimes violence is necessary
The IBEW is dead.Who killed it???.The members who put up with schiesters like that slurring drunk down hill ed hill.Out here in nor CAL in the bay area we command 44.50 per hr.Yep,!!! priced ourselves right of the market!!!.44.50 per hr. and no work for three years now.For much of the " daddy's name I'm a third gen blah blah bsbs they and their buddies are the only ones working. We hard working honest members will have the last laugh though when the whole thing explodes and disintegrates.LIARS!!
Local 58 fell May 2 in a vote of 36% turnout. 630 yes - 607 against. 2,200 sat out. We now have two JIW books for the same work - one at $24.00/hr and one at $34.21/hr. You can stay on either while working off one list. Double Book your own local while undermining your own contract.
Fuck ed hill.Dick!.None of these fucks care about us anyway.Better get ready to jump this ship of dead rats. Thanks for the training and shit ibew!.I will find work any way I can.Fuck the IBEW.
Makes me sick to be a member of something I used to be proud of. Sold down the river by the people who should be doing what they can to help us. Maybe we could come up with some sort of lower pay tier employees to take Ed Hill's job and replace him and all his cronies.
The CW was jammed through by the IO in 291 last year. Now the contractors can hire CW off the street for 1/2 wage of a JW. Our loaded books will never move again. Now we don’t even have to take state licensing requirements into account that we worked so hard to keep intact. The wealthy have to grab all they can as they burn the country down; I guess it doesn't matter if you are the head of a bank or the IBEW.
I don't find the "presidents" representation very "presidential", someone needs to tell Ed to knock off the tough guy shtick, it's not working. All I see in the whole CW/CE fiasco is a race to the bottom, you think those non-signatory contractors aren't going to lower their own pay rates? Driving in reverse is a dangerous game.
CE/CW is a deal breaker and a union breaker. Mr Hill seems to think if we don't do this, then in 10-20 years our percentage of work will be half of what it is now. I guess he can't wait that long to bust the union-and that's what this is, I'm sorry brothers and sisters, but this is a deal breaker, if it passes in my local, what's my motivation to stay with the union?
It is VERY typical of many union leaders to become belligerent and condescending when they are confronted with opinions they don't like. In my opinion when the leaders become so far removed from the front line workers, and sound more like management, we have problems! Union brothers and sisters, WE HAVE PROBLEMS!
As the Ed sees it it only matters what trade you claim; whether you are an electrician or carpenter. Now the International would like to bring the conflict within our local ranks; whether you would be a Journeyman or a construction worker of variable rank and certificate. Hill is right about one thing: this involves nothing less than betrayal.
We need more involvement from the rank and file to fight this 'cause it's smokin' down the track to a local near you. Ann Arbor? Detroit?
i was at the st. louis rally. the only difference between what they were saying about the carpenters, and what our international is doing to us is the name of the guy doin it. the names terry nelson and ed hill are interchangeable and are enemies of the JIW
I feel the confusion as I have for years. I worked on the new IBEW headquarters as a traveler out of Detroit and when I brought to the attention of one of Ed Hills cronies when they were taking a tour of the place that we were installing lamps made in Japan I got the," we'll have to look in to that", not stop installing that Jap crap. Since I came in to the IBEW I had one contract that we didn't lose something and that was the first one after becoming a JIW.
After that it's been 30 years of giveaways. I'm glad I'm retiring and I'm sure my grandfather and father and uncles are all turning over in their graves if they are looking where the union has gone.

If CE/CW is so successful, show us an example!
Why doesn't anybody seem to know any specific details about it? (At my local anyway) I think it's selective ignorance.
