Certainly one of the indirect costs of war is caring for the injured and economically "damaged" long after they've come home. This can be said for climate change too. An indirect cost of burning fossil fuels is a degraded habitat. Since we only have the one to keep us alive we'd better pay the costs up front so we curb the later effects.
In that light, giving tax breaks to the wealthy and "dirty" industries needs to end. The revenue should be invested in paying these current costs.
I very much enjoy nature and do agree that people in general are wasteful and trashing our environment, but with all the all the inflation on resources, they are definitely paying for it now. Unfortunately, it's up to big businesses (which are just going to raise their prices even more) and individuals to take care of their 'messes' which honestly isn't really a priority for most.

Secondly, you're missing the point of religion for many people.
Many people don't see religion as an explanation or comforter, they see it as a way to explore morality. A lot of religious texts don't directly tell you how to behave, they present provocative moral dilemmas which they expect you to think about and solve. In Christianity these are the parables, but most religions have something similar.
I'm not defending anyone in particular, just trying to mention that religions are far more diverse than people give them credit for. Some religions have no concept of a god or afterlife for example.
Even within a religion you'll get so many different wings and sects that it's almost meaningless to lump them all together.

Nature is known to be supportive of life. It works to create equilibrium and relatively stable environments. The largest CO2 sinks in the world are oceans. CO2 goes up, you need more water to store it in. Thus CO2 goes up, the thermostat goes up, the ice melts, you get more water, nature restores equilibrium. Pesky humans drowned in the process. Equilibrium is restored.
Its difficult to say for sure. Water absorbs a LOT of radiation, which means more UV radiation / heat will be trapped, especially as water expands through thermal expansion, and ice melts.
Currents (better known as the thermohaline conveyer) are likely to stop as the salinity of water is reduced through melting ice, meaning temperature will vary considerably in certain areas.
More water will be evaporated, which may give increased cloud cover + precipitation.
Who's to say. I dont think we will be able to tell, because we will die before we see the real dramatic after math of global warming. My grandkids might if the human race doesn't do something to slow the process.

From my observations, an enormous number of reputable scientists say that major temperature changes are caused by the thermal temperature of ocean currents which in turn is affected by solar flares, etc. Man's contribution to all of this is far less than cow farts.

I'm not a liberal, i'm not a conservative, i'm a moderate. I believe I do more than the elite liberal to stop "gloBULL" warming. I drive a 4 cylinder car, I ride my bicycle whenever i can. I buy food from local farmers, I recycle whenever possible, and i re-use anything i can. I don't have unnecessary lights on in my house when i don't need to. I'm sure my "carbon footprint" is less than most of the elitist, but i'm not even trying.

Not all Christians are creationists, in fact most Christians I've met totally accept the big bang, evolution etc etc. They would see those as the methods by which the universe was created.
The bible itself is very unclear and contradictory on the topic, and the creation story is best regarded as a piece of symbolic folklore rather than a literal record of history.

First of all, I didn't say anything about what I personally believed.
Secondly, you're missing the point of religion for many people.
Many people don't see religion as an explanation or comforter, they see it as a way to explore morality. A lot of religious texts don't directly tell you how to behave, they present provocative moral dilemmas which they expect you to think about and solve. In Christianity these are the parables, but most religions have something similar.

I'm not defending anyone in particular, just trying to mention that religions are far more diverse than people give them credit for. Some religions have no concept of a god or afterlife for example.
Even within a religion you'll get so many different wings and sects that it's almost meaningless to lump them all together.

Nature is known to be supportive of life. It works to create equilibrium and relatively stable environments. The largest CO2 sinks in the world are oceans. CO2 goes up, you need more water to store it in. Thus CO2 goes up, the thermostat goes up, the ice melts, you get more water, nature restores equilibrium. Pesky humans drowned in the process. Equilibrium is restored.

Its difficult to say for sure. Water absorbs a LOT of radiation, which means more UV radiation / heat will be trapped, especially as water expands through thermal expansion, and ice melts.
Currents (better known as the thermohaline conveyer) are likely to stop as the salinity of water is reduced through melting ice, meaning temperature will vary considerably in certain areas.
More water will be evaporated, which may give increased cloud cover + precipitation.

It's possible. Historically, ice ages have been preceded by the melting of all ice during a heating period, followed by a massive cooling period. The last time this occurred was about 10,000 years ago. We're actually overdue for an ice age, and a major epidemic. As the water temperature increases it'll mess with major ocean currents, and there's a good chance some of these currents will cease to transport cold and warm water, which drives lots of processes and will have huge impacts on migration

Equilibrium is never that simple.
Warmer water is less soluble to gases, meaning less CO2 can be held.
Increased CO2 absorption makes water more acidic, with the likelyhood of reducing biodiversity to ocean life.
CO2, CH4, and other gases are trapped within the ice. When the ice melts, these gases are released.
Its not as simple as water goes up CO2 goes down, even a 17 year old A-level student knows that.

That's true, biodiversity will be affected by warming oceans, just look at the effects on coral reefs already. Less CO2 will be held by the water once it's several degrees warmer, but the body of water will increase so vastly in size relative to the increase of CO2 from ice stored deposits of CO2 and CH4, the point still stands. I never said as water volume goes up CO2 goes down. I said water volume goes up & equilibrium is restored. This is a very long process, and won't happen in my lifetime.

After hundreds millions years, O2 concentrations high enough to support life, read; marine then terrestrial, & thus with an earth covered in trees, the O2 conc is now high enough to support complex life forms like humans. We're complex, and yet incredibly stupid. In 100 years we've undone tens of thousands of years of atmospheric CO2 conversion. That's right, tens of thousands of years worth of CO2, & people are wondering why there are dire consequences? Now we must try to reverse it. Period.

I can't fit this in 1 post, so bear with me. 99% of the water on earth has been here for millions if not billions of years. The water molecules (H2O) present on earth trace back to the coalescence of Earth, about 1% is accounted for from asteroidal collisions. Hundreds of mya (millions years ago), atmospheric concentrations of CO2 were relatively VERY high. Oxygen concentration was very low. "Extremophiles"- micro-organisms, consumed CO2 and produced O2, thus O2 went up, CO2 went down. Cnxtpost

technically speaking, no. because of the hydrologic cycle (aka the water cycle) the water that we have on earth is the same water we have had for thousands and thousands of years. but if there is extreme drought due to raising temperatures then there is a slight possibility that we could see less water on earth.

global warming is a natural process; without global warming the earth would be too cold to sustain life. However, recent human activities have increased certain greenhouse gases that warm the earth (Chemical fertilizers and burning fossil fuels release Nitrous Oxide, a more harmful gas than carbon dioxide). And it is not the sea glaciers that are a concern; it's the and glaciers that are causing a rising sea level. and the wall is a bad idea because of the effects it could have on the ecosystem

I love it when all these enviromentalists try to demand we believe their silly theory on global warming. I guess none of them have heard of Solar Flares and ocean currents. They talk about melting ice caps in the north pole and ignore growing ice caps in the south. Funny how they feel politicians (Al Gore, Barbara Boxer, Nancy Pelosi) and poets (Maya Angelou, Amiri Baraka) and "artists" (Barbara Streisand, Tim Robbins) know more then the 400 geologists, climatologists, and others who disagree.

The Earth is made up of 75% water oceans. The weather experienced around the world varies, and the oceans play a big role in your local weather. Climate Change or "Global Warming" is the average increase in the Earths temp over a period of time. Since oceans make up a big part of our world, they will be the first to feel the impact. International weather will vary, from extremely cold in Chicago (and if I recall it was 60 degrees for the first few days in January) to extremely hot in Europe.

Take a physics class. A cubic inch of water has 800 times the thermal inertia of a cubic inch of air. I'll use smaller words so your head doesn't hurt - it stays whatever temperature it currently is longer than air or land. Climate change is a natural phenomena that has been going on for millions of years. We're nothing new or special in the equation. Are we screwed? Probably. Is it our fault? Nobody knows

From my observations, an enormous number of reputable scientists say that major temperature changes are caused by the thermal temperature of ocean currents which in turn is affected by solar flares, etc. Man's contribution to all of this is far less than cow farts.

they release more carbon BUT there weren't billions of cars and deforestation and burning of fossil fuels going on at the same time. in the past the earth has been able to repair itself. if we continue to kill the forests through deforestation and pollution we will have no way of cleaning our air. Just please do your research on the subject of "global warming" BEFORE you make these sorts of comments. See both sides of the story (research who is funding the "global warming 'disbelievers'")

I'm not a liberal, i'm not a conservative, i'm a moderate. I believe I do more than the elite liberal to stop "gloBULL" warming. I drive a 4 cylinder car, I ride my bicycle whenever i can. I buy food from local farmers, I recycle whenever possible, and i re-use anything i can. I don't have unnecessary lights on in my house when i don't need to. I'm sure my "carbon footprint" is less than most of the elitist, but i'm not even trying.

Where was global warming this winter when the City of Chicago went over budget for their snow removal program. By mid February we were 1.8 million dollars over budget. Can anyone explain how Global warming caused record snowfall? If the weather goes up, it's because of global warming, if the weather goes down, it's because of global warming. If there's record rainfall or record drought, it's because of global warming. I say gloBULL warming.

that is global warming taking effect. when the ice caps melt the ocean rises, when that happens it gets colder but usually for about 1 or 2 seasons and the process will repeat until there is no more ice to melt and global warming will take it's greatest effect
