  • thats a squat rack

  • Arent you meant to have your elbows under your wrists?

  • this guy is so serious

  • he doesn't need a spotter he doesn't have weight.

  • Seriously... Everyone saying you can't go beyond 90 degrees, shut up. Yes, you can. While it's not wise to go too far down, because it may cause injury to the rotator cuff, you can go slightly lower than 90 degrees for a better stretch. For this particular exercise with barbell it works. Why do you think lifters prefer dumbbell to barbell? Besides it building muscle balance it also increases your range of motion. Increased range of motion = more muscle recruitment.

  • This is incline press

  • 0:43 what weights?

  • @laxlegend93 HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAA

  • This guy is awesome. Thanks for the thorough and precise instructions. :D

  • @Tacticious And what else, hater?

  • @Tacticious This kid is angry LMAO.

  • @Tacticious LMFAO, why you mad though?????????

  • @Tacticious LMFAO, WHY YOU MAD, THOUGH???? LMFAOO

  • i dont c any weights :/

  • I see that th back rest is at an angle. Would a 90 degree back rest be better or does it really matter?

  • Comment removed

  • what this kid is doing is working out his upper chest more than his shoulders.. ???...............

  • This exercise can be done with dumbbell?

  • @Lemonbuddyed

That's called the Dumbbell Shoulder Press

  • @Lemonbuddyed ya u can do it with dumbbells...if u want try push press, feel like it works much better

  • @Lemonbuddyed Yes. But it's usually done with two dumbbells.

  • you look like wee man just a bit taller

  • certified trainer...? ...let's count the mistakes he just made... ...elbows behind the bar, bar too far back to reach it naturaly even with a spotter, you should not sit all the way back, your butt should be slightly off the bench so that your upper back is more stabile... ...oh - and this is not a military press, since during military press one is standing...

  • Isn't this a seated 'shoulder press'? Military press is a 'military press'. it involves keeping the feet together while standing as if to attention.Next video..." How to do dumbell curls with a 3 metre straight bar and both arms" Youtube videos on how to's make me laugh. The teachers don't know whats going on at all .....

  • I maxed at 225 on seated military press.

  • @AustinoTheGr8 ...i did about 240...

  • your supposed to stand up when you do military presses arent you?

  • @vivalakakarot you can do them standing up or sitting, this specific one is called seated military press, the title doesnt say it is but yeah thats what its called. But either way, you are working deltoids.

  • @vivalakakarot yes that is correct, when its seated its called a SEATED SHOULDER PRESS. this guy is a fuck knuckle

  • i reckon hes got his seat too far back he looks like his using a lot of chest like an incline bench press but a bit higher. I do this siting down without leaning back. Only women and gays shave their armpits it took untill the 90s untill french and german women did and now young men are expected to fuck off, men will be shaving their nuts next and waxing their speedo lines. Dont let it happen.

  • Military press SEATED? Really?

  • this guy has no spotter.....forever alone :')

  • @bubblewman kmfl

  • what i want to know is is it wrong to lower the bar only 90 degrees(since if it goes lower the lats do more work) and if it is wrong then someone explain me why?

  • @UserIdGoesHere Probably cause you keep buying it

  • he should have under his arms

  • I know that this works the front delt and the triceps, but does this movement work the lateral delt or even the rear delt?

  • @ItsLuk Yes, this press works the whole shoulder!

  • dude i have this pain in my left shoulder when i do this and when doing incline bench presd. anybody have any sugestions why?

  • @bllblnt7 It's most likely shoulder impingement. It's not too serious and if you google it you can find rehab exercises for it.

  • Should be standing up to do that....

    Not a "military" press...

    Personal trainers lol.

  • It's very very, massively important to have a spotter on this one... Well where's his spotter??

  • @rougedear he's not lifting any weight....only the bar....

  • @currysteph Bars are usually 20 KGs standard in the gym, so technically he is lifting 20 Kgs, pissweak

  • FFS shave.....

  • thats eazy i can do handstand pushups

  • @UserIdGoesHere because its good for the muscle!

  • @UserIdGoesHere high protein diets make you crave sugars mate

  • Don't like!

  • He looks like wee-man if he wasn`t a little person

  • I workout alone :(

  • very gay voice aswell

  • your gym looks like some s&m dungeon

  • I dont agree with the breathing.

I traing with huge powerlifters and they claim that you should take a big breath before lowering the weight and then wait with the exhale until the weight is back up.

This way you keep the tension

  • Also, is it good form to lock out your elbows like that?

  • @ThePaulMorrison thats matter of opinion. a lockout will give your muscles a slight rest. If you stop slightly before lock out you will keep your muscles under constant stress which some ppl think is more beneficial

  • do you really need a spotter for this?

  • actually "my dear" military press is when the bar is in front of the head, shoulder press is behind...

  • i think you forgot to put the weights on mate?

  • it's better to do it with barbell or dumbells?

  • @Stoksie01 pent up anger much lmao.

  • Put 225 on there and let's see you put it all the way down. You're supposed to go 90 degrees with this. Screw you, you're showing how to get an injury.

  • @DreadfulControversy He's showing you how to get strong shoulders, something that you obviously need.

  • @shamwow1996 When you decide to stop uploading stupid videos, and upload some weightlifting ones, let me know. You're not remotely close to me on the bench, squat, deadlift; nor will you ever be.

  • @DreadfulControversy he did go all the way down, to his chin, the proper way, unless you mean down lying flat, which would be a bench press.

  • @crudnup No he didn't, he dropped it BELOW the chin, and even instructed to do so. It was basically near his clavicle. Secondly, you're not supposed to go down 90 degrees on a bench press. What are you talking about?

  • @DreadfulControversy I meant below the chin. If you didn't do it al;l the way past the chin then surely you wouldn't be working the full extent of the muscle? and I have no idea what you mean by 90 degrees, elbows? back? what part?

  • @crudnup Your elbows. Why would you put your back 90 degrees? Anyways, No, that's like saying if you don't lower your body all of the way down during a reset whilst doing weighted deeps, you won't work the full extent of the muscle. It's an injury waiting to happen. If you watch strongman or powerlifters (including myself) doing a military press, they NEVER put it past 90 degree's. Search "315 shoulder press" and you'll see EXACTLY what I'm talking about.

  • @DreadfulControversy oh, I understand what you mean now. The guy in this video is almost doing an incline press.

  • @crudnup Pretty much, except his body isn't inclined. That's why I said if it was 225 on there, he'd crack something. Don't people make sure techniques are correct before uploading videos? When I military press, I turn my face up diagonal to the ceiling, and bring the bar down til it touches my chin.

  • @DreadfulControversy i dont think 90 degrees is quite good ... a little lower just a little not really under the chin but a little lower just to work 95% of the movement

  • that's no military press

do some real military press !!

  • @germantown555

lmao i was joking dont u know sarcasm

  • @surfsoccer11 oh sorry dude haha. Its hard to realize sarcasm over the internet

  • @germantown555

    haha no problem

  • @KoboldKaiser i think he was joking

  • shoaders

  • He has beautiful armpits, so it's ok to show them.

  • since when did Colt mccoy become a personal trainer

  • that is why you don't do that exercise while sitting , cause the motion is weird too far in the front, do it while standing above your center of mass, no reason to rack weight somewhere behind you, and if you don't do it down to your chest you don't use the full range of motion and will lose those 10cm of movement over time

  • i messed up my shoulder with military presses i never did them before

  • His name is Bumgarner

  • wtf is wrong with his armpits?

  • SEATED Military press, same basic motion minus your heels together

  • cool armpits bra

  • This is why I don't have a personal trainer.

  • @ataraxia60 You mean fudge packing?

  • not a military press

  • usa is still in the 80s it seems. unshaved armpits are allowed on age 40+. if you do bodybuilding, hairs are part of the art!

  • @amoredfist Nah, hair on armpits and chest and such are common enough, but teenagers/guys in their 20s shave em to look like little boys for whatever reason, I think its pretty stupid.

  • @KoboldKaiser did you just submit an entire paragraph to an obvious joke post?

  • @ataraxia60 sure did XD

  • idk about this guy but i put a little weight on that when i lift

  • @BigDog91527 your right the bar does get bent. almost as bent as you are. it was a joke comment. I am sure even someone of your lowered intelligence can understand that

  • @RooWallaby your joke is even more bent than your microscopic penis.

  • amrpits dude, armpits

  • Mate real men do military press standing.

  • @TheRealFatguy1992 clean and press?????

  • @Favre1013 Better then sitting down, or you can un-rack from a squat rack and press.

  • @TheRealFatguy1992 the only difference is balancing muscles in ur legs

  • Nice spotter!

  • hold on can i do this standing up and with the curved shorter silver bar?

  • @MapleHurricane while standing up, yes, but why bother with the curled bar? It's not supposed to be used like that. A regular bar is what i'd suggest

  • fake and gay!!!

  • 0:13

    "this sexercise"

  • Whats you maximum weight / lifts? Take the Military Press Challenge at Konkura.com ?

  • 0:44 "notice I lock my elbows, and raise and lower my shoulder girdle each rep using my primary movers for stability and my stabilizers to help with the movement. I managed this in seat with back support. This is a military press for... progressing the best movement pattern to screw up your chest development and lat development."

  • I dont like breathing in sync,

  • This isn't a beginners exercise.

Muscle failure isn't rare in this exercise.

  • technically not a military press.

military press is standing with feet together (hence the "military")

this my dear is a seated shoulder press

  • @Chingophia possibly one of the dumbest and most useless comments i have ever seen.

  • @makohit i think your comment tops mine

  • @makohit Agreed.

  • @Chingophia owned

  • Ignore this video if you are training for strength. If you are training for size, this video is spot on.

  • " u are in control of the weights " holyhell there should be a guy standing at each station with that sign. ive seen too many ppl forget that little piece of information...thank u ...that is all

  • what angle (degree) is the seat set at?

  • I swear this guy is ex army or something. WHY SO SERIOUS

  • It's important to keep the lower arm perpendicular to the floor, he angles as he is in the bottom portion of the lift

  • Is there any problem if this excercise is performed while standing?

  • @locolopelocolope Standing press is superior. More muscles are involved: core, glutes, thighs, back, actually - your whole body.

  • @valgez1

    Thanks a lot !

  • @valgez1 You need to be careful before you make such claims. Superior for what? Building overall strength...maybe. Building muscle? Nope. Seated is a bit better since you can use more weight...hence inducing more hypertrophy. FTR, I do mostly standing OHP for the reason you mentioned; however, the way you've phrased this is misleading. Different styles have their place in a well-rounded program. Don't be so close-minded as to miss out on greater gains from different variations.

  • @jskrabac While you may have a point, seated press is done mostly for the fear of hurting lower back. Standing press builds shoulders better, adds upper back, other muscles, thus creating broader shoulders. People lift more weight while sitting because of the relatively weak core or lack of balance. Seated press may serve as an addition, but if you had to choose only one, I'd say Standing Press is superior.

  • @valgez1 Agreed. I've never heard anyone with any experience saying anything different than what you are saying there valgez1. This guy on vid here talking about breathing in and out as you lower and raise the weight is NOT what I've been taught you should be doing whilst your spine is under load.

  • @LaszloBencze this is not a bench press it called a "seated" military press. bench press works the chest. this bench is at a too high angle to work the chest. it works the shoulders

  • Great video. Thx!

  • You present yourself as a teacher. Yet, you don't even know the name of the exercise you are doing. It is not a military press. A military press is done standing up in the posture known as "at attention" in the armed forces (hence the name). You are doing a high angle incline bench press. If your bench did not have a back to lean against, then it would be a seated shoulder press and even harder to do than a standing military. But with a back to lean on it's easier.

  • good form cept i wouldn't recommend going past past the point your arms are parallel to the ground. places a lot of unwanted pressure on your tendons, especially your rotator cuffs.

  • @somestupiddude1234

what a nonsense. shoulders are the prime movers right here. It's not like he's bench pressing where the pecs are prime movers and it's heavy loads would damage the shoulders if the bar goes "too low".

powerlifters get the bar down till it touches the chests (while standing up) and they're healthy enough to compete.

  • @Mahassiah lol speak for yourself. i press 215. that's a lot of stress. and especially if your straight pressing it instead of using momentum.

  • THIS IS NOT A MILITARY PRESS. this is a seated shoulder press

  • Whats the difference between this and pullups?... It loosk exactly like pulls just with weights while sitting

  • @1pk1 I'm no expert on the subject, but i'm pretty sure that the muscle groups used in 'pushing' weight excercises (ex. the military press) are vastly different to those used in 'pulling' weight excercises (pull-ups).

  • @1pk1 please tell me that is not a serious question....

  • @MinitodaPizzle Then I wont XD

  • he's doing it wrong, his joints won't forget it!

  • Certified by who? The NuAge Scrubs Association of Retarded Lifters? Posting videos titled, "How to Do Military Press" while SITTING on an incline bench = moron. L2lift ffs.

  • lmao I didn't even notice his armpits until I read the comments.

  • you do the same military presses by doing pull ups. just as shown in this video, just do it on a pull up bar. its just as effective, if not even better. gets you more ripped shoulders rather than the bulky 'buff' shoulders.

  • Some good instructions for beginners.

  • so would this help with doing pull ups?

  • His armpits aren't shaved? And also he points out repeatedly to make sure you have a spotter to put the bar back on the rack, this would protect the wrists and hyperextending the shoulders.

  • This should be called "How Not to do a Military Press".

Military press is standing not seated. When doing it correctly your don't have to risk destroying your rotator cuffs just to unrack the bar because it will be in front of you.

This guy is "certified". What a crock of shit.

  • @sub7design Seated push press would be more accurate. Military press is just a strict form of standing push press.

  • @TheCrazyFinn Military press is a standing press but with feet together.

  • @sub7design Just the heels need to be together, toes apart, like standing at attention. Also, the bar needs to come down to the clavicle. Grip is exactly shoulder width.

  • Doing a seated military press increases the danger of compressing your spine. It wasn't designed for sitting on a chair. In fact, very few bodybuilders ever do seated ANYTHING, other than dumbbell curls. The proper way to do this exercise is by standing. And not using a rack either. If you can't clean the weight to your chest, you shouldn't be putting it over your head.

  • faggot

  • I would expect him to at least be wearing livestrong clothing..

  • I've been told that this exercise is actually bad for your back because it compresses your spine. Hopefully, I'm wrong though cause I still do this just with dumbells.

  • ....and this would not be a military press. And that would still be a chest and tricep heavy exercise.

  • easy to say when u are doin the bar fagget

  • I go to eye level, but I also do heavy weight when I do it. How will that affect my ROM?

  • U must going deeper, til the you're touching u're chest with the bar.

  • It's seated or standing ppl. The other term is shoulder press. Either way, it's the same thing, except that seated is safer and allows more weight to be added due to increased stability. God, I love these comments from ppl who act like they know everything.

  • @dvdmclean1980 actually it's not. And actually standing is safer due to increased maneuverability in the case of emergency or hyper-flexion, and you actually have more increased "core" involvement and rotation when standing.

  • @dvdmclean1980 I think along with the calf raises, it's actually easier to do these standing up. With calf raises, there is a muscle in your thigh that locks through your shin and down to your foot when your leg is straight, which helps stabilize at your ankles.

With this exercise, doing it sitting down puts a lot more stabilization on the shoulders by themselves instead of the back as far as the actual extension goes.

This way is a good way to isolate particular shoulder muscles.

  • @dvdmclean1980 Exactly

  • military press is standing. sorry, but this is a seated press.

  • At the end he speak the word: Shoulders, very very gay..

  • HAHAHAHAHA LANCE BUMGARNER THE GOLD'S GYM PERSONAL TRAINER!!q THIS HAS TO BE SOME KIND OF JOKE!!!!

  • Men shouldn't worry about any hair that's below their neckline.

  • A certified personal trainer, demonstrating the military press, but doing it sitting down on an inclined bench.

    K, right...

  • I'm impressed that he does shoulder presses in front of his head instead of behind -- it's so much better on the back. I've been told that I am weird because I start my military presses with 3 sets standing using very light weights, then go to the seated press for 2 more challenging weights.

As for the comments on his pit-fur, some of us are furrier than others of us. For example, I grow more fur in my ears between haircuts than he has in his pits.

Spare me the comments; I know.

  • @Mapman923

    1) there is honestly nothing impressive about doing shoulder presses where it starts in front of the head... its the standard way to start a press..

    2) its easier on the rotator cuff, not your back

    3) why the hell would you use a much superior military press as a warm up and proceed to use a seated press with a "challenging" weight??

  • shaving your pits w/a razor is one thing but all men should at least trim it w/the clippers w/no or a low guard.

  • @AwestaKhalid Feminine guys can go ahead and do that but men with balls and testosterone will keep their chest, legs and pit hair. I assume you are a lady based on your user name.

  • i like to do this with weights on the bar

  • @RooWallaby This is an instructional video...

  • im pretty sure its common for men to have underarm hair lol
