I first saw MG when she was opening a show in Tucson for I cant even remember who now. That tells you something about her set. At the end of her set the place was speechless and the room was all bet empty for the headliner when she entered the lobby to watch the show for the back. Very humble and kept encouraging everyone to respect the other artist.
it was 'Case Histories' for me too. Blew me away. Made me cry. It's not often to get such a 'connect'. My brother died 4 weeks ago and I heard Mercy Now. That is the power of good songs.
Mercy Now has been used on a BBC programme called Case Histories and that is how I have found her. I am sure that many more will now look her up. She has such a haunting voice.
She's been travelling around the world, very busy touring the States I hear too. She is getting more well known and regarded, especially since The Foundling.
what a phenomenal talent for putting the most complex -- and yet most ephemeral - of thoughts and emotions into words and then, miracle of miracle, setting it all to music
Met Mary in Louisville KY,opening for the Cowboy Junkies two years ago. I asked her about the song, did she know how dramatic it becomes on the lines, "The front porch flags lie themselves down Like forgotten soldiars And old wedding gowns And closets unopened And graves without any marks As the night curtains lower Behind the rooftops Shadows dance across the sidewalks And ricochet off the houses like pieces of art" She just smiled, said by then she was working on her next song
Wished I'd known she was in Perth! Saw Mary around 4 years ago, as support for Willie Nelson. Magnificent songwriter. Left us all (inc guys in the band) spellbound. Good Luck to you Mary, wherever the winding river takes yer.
Produced by Joe Henry and co-written by Fred Eaglesmith, this says all. They both are my favourites and how else could a song end up if these two guys are working on it....
Can't believe I have not heard this marvellous, touching, brilliant singer-songwriter. Awesome.

Strangely we live in a world where such a beautiful song has only 25,000 views in comparison to 270 million views for Eminem ft. Rihanna.

The difficulty for me has always been the distance between darkness and daylight, and that doesn't sound poetic at all.

One more thing - she is a genius.
And she has the most unique way of pronouncing certain words.
Something needs to happen so that more folks know her work. It's the best I've found in the last 30 years or so.
