  • I think he was more unlucky in '99 when ferrari gave him 3 wheels :/

  • Alesi 94 could have been a championship candidate

  • Irvin was a wanker and never was such a good driver!

  • "its a good thing...Michael finished, I almost finished"

    AWESOME IRVINE

  • lol funny thing is that Schumacher in 1996 at Spain was 1 minute ahead of the second car.

  • It was even worse than the video suggests: the soft accidents at Nurburgring, in Monaco and Spain; the driveshaft failure in Canada; the engine failure in France. Irvine had 9 points after 5 races and after 14, he still had 9 points. Awful run, occasionally his fault but mostly Ferrari's.

  • @azapro911 Actually, he had an electrical failure at the Nurburgring, so only 2 of his retirements were driver error.

  • @azapro911 You're right. I remember him running into Panis during that race and wrongly convinced myself it was an accident.

  • @azapro911 He was definitely inconsistent in 1997 though. In Brazil, 16th (last, 2 laps behind) then 2nd in the next race at Argentina.

  • @darthbandon10 Being beaten outright by a Tyrrell in Spain was a classic.

  • @azapro911 To top it off he got a penalty for holding up the leaders while a lap behind :p

  • @darthbandon10 Spa was fairly horrendous too. Unless you're Mika Salo or Ivan Capelli, no driver should be battling with Minardis and Tyrrells for last on the grid.

  • @azapro911 Ah yes, he turned into Diniz on the last lap and lost that fight :p same with Nakano at Hungary.

  • @darthbandon10 Followed it up with that World-class manouvre on Alesi in Austria too. :P

  • @azapro911 Yup, wasn't in the points at all between France and Japan (7 races).

  • anuus horibilis xD

  • I never really had an opinion on Irvine but after reading a few interviews all i can say is WHAT A PRICK! He didn't deserve any luck and i'm glad he was never Champ!

  • @Davetheravepow

Most racing drivers said that if he drove half as good as he talked he'd win way more races. He was also quoted of saying he was 2nd only to Schumacher, which most people doubted. For the record he never once was on pole, and had a single fastest lap to his credit.

Irvine was in trouble with law not long ago, and this proves that he is indeed a prick.

  • He is obviously not capable of handling his gear shift ;)

  • bad luck though, he's a good driver he deserved to be a champion

  • Bit like Vettel this year

  • When you consider bad luck I would like to point out at least Eddie STARTED each race in 1996, unlike his team-mate

  • Eddie Irvine is a Prick. Fullstop

  • By the time, Schumacher was doing a record of races in a row without any mechanic problems. Let's find the trouble.

  • I admire his optimism and his cool.

  • i think irvine woulda been the most undeserving champion ever. . . a good driver, but thats it!

  • It aint good for the car manufacturer when the driver says we got nearer to the finish so it's an improvement.

  • Irvine was like Alesi - never in the right car at the right time.

  • Ok, 89-90? With Tyrrell Team , never Good?

  • I point to the fact again, renault engine 96 and 97, he didnt have the tempramant or ability to be a consistent challanger.

Yeah he had a good start to his career with a few good performances like when he lead senna for 30 laps or something at the beginning of 90 season in phoenix. He joined ferrari and they fell away massively ( I know not because of him ) and he was never a real contender again, he really should have been.

Average driver with flashes of brilliance at best

  • @shanejl11

Alesi had a lot of bad luck too.

  • er.. 99 was the right time for irvine.. he had the best car on the grid, and it was also his best achievement. but that just wasn't good enough to win the championship. but you can't say: he had no chance. he had this one chance.

  • yes, but it was in 1999. Not in 96 =)

Same thing for Hakkinen in 1997 for example .

  • @pocketdynamo87 Don't forget the European GP in that same year where the ferrari pit crew were just a bunch of monkeys without knowing what to do.That race Irvine fighted to have some points but not even 1 he had all thanks to his team.

  • @triplehhhmytimewwf Shit happens to everybody at some time.

  • a tru sportsman always took it on the chin

and proud to be irish to

  • WTF??Poor guy!!! schumi enjoyed a lot more luck

  • wasn't luck. pure biased attention. look at 1999, when irvine had schumis car. he suddenly nearly won the championship. wonder why that was?

  • Yeah, thats why i hate ferrari, just the way they mistreated rubens....assholes

  • because hakkinen, coulthard and mc laren do a lot, lot, lot... very lot mistakes. it was not irvine who was very strong.. it was mc laren who where not good enough.

remember: on his second race for ferrari mika salo was going to beat irvine

  • FRAAAAAMES

pls have mercym thats a slideshow

  • i did a mistake: this year Schumi won Spain, Belgium & Italia.

  • i miss irvine !!!!

  • 1994 Lotus was a piece of junk.

  • michael fuck around with the car

  • Wrong flag is put up. He isnt irish, he's n.irish :)

  • Yes, but he claims that he is irish, full stop.

  • Good spot

  • aww,lol

  • Kinda reminds me of the early days of Alonso and Fisichella at Renault, Fisi always seeming to have bad luck.

  • Life as Ferraris number two......

  • suzuka not susuka

  • i know ,i know .. one guys already say this..^^

  • If there was anything to be liked about Irvine it was his comments :)

  • This is year Irvine earn only 10pts !!! against 60 pts for Schumacher who won 3greats GPs (Spain, Monaco & Italia).

  • Schumi didn't win Monaco that year at all.

  • after every engine failure eddie doesn't put any blame on ferrari and says the same things :P . but the truth is anyone who was michael shumachers team mate seems to have unfortunate luck or alot of engine failures.

  • But none of these were actually Eddies fault

  • LOL 1:17, Eddie-style...

  • Rofl

  • Eddie Irvine: Good Bits: Canada 1999, Austria 1999 and qualifying faster than Michael on occasion.

Bad Bits: Comes across as arrogant and now makes a living keeping homes from peoples' reach, sponging rent off them all. Typical pikie.

  • lmao! how could they let this happen so many times :S

  • Because he was Michael's no. 2

In f1's current situ, I kinda miss the guy - he was at least a laugh, which just doesn't happen anymore - Looking at the grid, now DC's gone, there's barely any entertaining characters anymore.

  • mark webber :)

  • poor eddie

  • he retired 10 races running i think. he started

    aus 3rd

    brazil 7th

    argentina 5th

    san marino 4th

from monaco to estoril he retired every race then he was 5th in estoril and then berger drove him off in suzuka

  • Eddie had about 10 retirements in 1996, 8 of which were consecutive, in stark contrast to the ferrari of the 21st century

  • Typically arrogant Berger. Stupidly runs into Irvine at Suzuka and then just says "It's a race accident". No apology, idiot

  • I have cut many part of the interview of Berger ;) he dont say just this..

  • Irvine and Verger both had many stupid moments in their careers. Irvine tended to take out more competitors with him though...!

  • damn.. he never had alot of luck i remember Mark webber had loads of problems back in 2002 or 2003 i think for jaguar..

  • Just like Kimi in 2002-2006

  • but its call suZuka^^

  • yes i have seen xD but is too late ! im sorry n_n

  • we got nearly to the end: its an improvement XD lol

  • Eddie was awesome. Thats why ferrari hired him.

  • just like kimi in mclaren
