Man that Allen Collins was the greatest guitar soloist ever. I know the most of these guys are dead but definatly not forgot. I would rather hear the extended version anyday. I just saw, I guess it was from a DVD, the original Hamburg version of this song for the first time today (the edited video portion of this upload). It was great! I admire what you've done here and understand that sometimes the studio versions of songs are just better. But I have to ask, is that what possessed you to take the obviously large amount of time and effort to create this hybred version, better audio? Well done, but puzzling nevertheless, heh! Be well. @Awwa1 Not that the studio version is "better" but that the audio for the Hamburg performance is subpar. Not to mention Ed King totally ruins Allen's solo with some inexplicably terrible improv.

Of course the best versions of Free Bird are the live ones. Knebworth, Oakland, OMFTR, etc. All have way more energy and Allen just flies.

I made this because it was fun and I have tremendous respect for the original Lynyrd Skynyrd. What other reason do I need?

Great syncing!!! I've only just discovered how good this band are but I like the how tight they are in order for you to sync the studio recording to a live recording. Although they're all obviously off their faces and having a good time, when a band know a song THAT well i bet they got sick of playing this one way every time. I'm in a band and regulary bollock the rest of the band for doing different things.
