  • Really nice... I'm no musician, but I'm learning my way around Garage Band (while you cringe, no doubt)

  • Hey Garageband is fantastic — are you having fun? You might've noticed it in the line up of applications in this video —at around 0:42. Especially great for slicing and dicing sound files. You think you'll upload anything? Be great to hear your stuff!

  • Yep! I definitely noticed it... I have uploaded a few vids in the past couple of weeks that included some of my Garage Band music... I'm only still just scratching the surface, but will probably get much more involved as time goes on...

  • Fantastic — hey, which ones included your music? Thank you for introducing me to Van der Graaf G by the way — very interesting, especially on headphones: they pan in unusual ways, like lead vocal distinctly left .... I hope you'll jam with us some day, when you get the free time for it.

  • "Don't Forget The Tickets To Xel-Ha," "Driving Through Duncan," "Traffic Circle," "At The Rocking Horse Pub With James, Cindy, and Andy," and, "Camping7 Lizard Lake Revisited Reloaded" all contain the stuff I made with Garage Band so far... I took the easiest route and used the setting with "magic" in it... I should get better with it when I overcome my

"Fear Of New Things" and try something more creative than that :)

As for jamming, Let me learn a bit more first :)

  • I've had a look through these — some good grooves! ;8) I'm glad you're having fun with it, and flexing your musical creativity. By the way, there's a video on TheJamCommunity channel bearing your name .... ;8)

  • fehquig: The Musical... Nooooooooo!!!! LOL

I will have to check that out tonight while in the taxi and waiting for a call...

  • I need to hire a musician to play background music like this in my videos. I keep running out of good royalty-free stuff! :) SO nice.

  • Thanks Shan! I've gotta say, I know the other video's had an amazing reception in the last couple of days — and thank you for the finger-crossedness of your wishes! — but this collaboration, for all its niche-ness, has been the biggest creative turn-on. I've decided 2009 is a year for organising fun, stretching collabs! Maybe we'll do one sometime!

  • HOW did I miss this?! It's ABSOLUTELY wonderful. *favorites*

  • Lovely music and well-thought-out images that work well together. Can't wait for round 2!

  • Very nice melody. I love the software!

    Peace.

    Ray

  • Hey Ray — good to hear from you. Hope you're well! Yes, Logic Express is a dream toy! ;8)

  • wow...excellent cool concept. unusual to make me (momentarily) speechless.

  • Cheers JR — what was it that made you speechless, as a matter of interest?

  • hahaha! a funny one are we Tree?

it's been a very long year and your video hit a spot. Your parents (as portrayed in the video) remind me of my older cousins in Kent and Sussex. They're still always on the right page in the right book!

  • What, did I say something funny?

You're talking about the Instruction Manual video are you? Kent and Sussex — then they're very local here ....

  • sometimes I wonder what would happen if I went loco, er...local, again...

this video was cool because I'm still not sure where or what the allure in it is but I like it.

  • Oh how I love Logic:) Looks like you have a few different toys, or at least your interface is much nicer looking than mine.

This is such a cool idea, I can't wait to follow it's evolution. How many passes back and forth will it go?

  • Thanks Joe! I'm not sure how many passes we'll do — I've just asked BC2 how he worked that out with a2zdiy. Mm — Logic. Maybe the interface is a Mac/PC thing. We just bought a great little midi keyboard — I'd been using the qwerty keyboard for a while 'coz my Yamaha is gigantic and stored away — and it's dragged me right back into Logic. You been producing any new stuff with yours?

  • Here and there. I'm in a few bands at the moment, and I've just started a new project with my brother and some friends that seems very promising so far. So, I haven't had much time to fully produce any new songs, just rough demos mostly. But I'll definitely be recording stuff with the new band over the next couple of months, and I'll be sure to pursue your valued criticism when I do.

  • My goodness you are SWIMMING in music! Do the folks in your bands pull creatively in the same direction with the other members? I guess if it's music that's brought you together, there's bound to be some good overlap of tastes. I look forward to hearing your new material!

  • I'm going to enjoy watching this unfold. BC2 did such a great job with a2zdiy. I love this first layer, as well as the opening piece - your music is always so full of interesting shifts and touches, TT. ;^>

  • Thanks Qualia! Looking forward to doing some fun things like this this year — and jamming with you sometime! ;8)

  • Ditto on bC2 doing a great job w/ me; I explained to him that my first post was kind of a goof, because the girls wanted to play along, and I didn't have the heart to say no. I intended to post something more rhythmically rigid, but bC2, ever the creative gentleman, kindly praised our efforts, and immediately proceeded to find ways to pull things together musically.

He made it easy to have fun within my family's musical limitations!

I can't wait to hear what he does next!

  • And I think you showed that anyone can do this — even with pots and pans — so no reason not to get in there and jam! What did your girls think — have they seen the completed piece?

  • Pots, pans, and a heater vent! The girls love take 4 by bC2 the most,

    watch?v=Ti0Yypq0d-8&watch_response

and we're all rather surprised by how cool it turned out.

Everyone here is stoked to hear what happens with this new project of yours.

  • Hey a2diy I loved all your input just as much! Thanks again for starting this hole thing up! Let's do another one too!

  • Sweetness! Thank you, bC2, and yes, I'd love to work up another project!

  • oooh love the sound :-) such talent :-)

  • Thanks Sikosm ;8)

  • :-)

  • wow terrific idea! Love this!

  • Thanks LeSaMilano! It is terrific isn't it — communicating purely through a creative medium. I said to myself this is a year for collaborations, so hearing such a great idea, especially from someone as adept as BC2, I pounced on the invitation sharpish!

  • Oh my goodness Theramin! Thank you sooo much! This is excellent!! Wonderfully inspiering, I can't wait to get started, I will try to have somthing by tommorrow night, as I am currently still in a polish youth hostle.

  • Well, it's inspiring to work with a musician of your calibre — knowing I can meander a little away from classic song structure with you. I really like working like this — just improvising the music and getting it out there in one day, before it has the chance to be laboured/overworked. I think that'll make this whole project feel fresh at every stage. Can't wait to hear your musical reply! Hope Poland was good x

  • Very cool. I shall follow the progress of this.

  • Thanks Liberty — appreciated coming from a fellow musician — one that plays a *real* guitar! No idea where this'll end up — which is the buzz.

  • Oh TheraminTrees, this is so cool! Sweet playing -What midi guitar do you use?

I'm thrilled that this music video-exchange idea is getting revisited - and on a more professional level.

bCurious2's playing has inspired me to begin rebuilding my studio. Now my stuff won't be limited to the audio quality of my video camera!

  • I have memories of recording as a child just using two tape recorders — the feedback was gigantic at the end! I was concerned about sound degradation on video, but I was surprised how it really worked between you and BC2.

The guitar sound is one I designed in Logic Express, using 'Fingerstyle Electric Bass' as a base, and adding various settings of chorus, gain, guitar-amp, channelEQ and reverb. Designing sounds in LE is so much fun! I love your work with BC2 - look forward to hearing more!

  • This sounds really, really cool, Theramin! Looking forward to hearing this evolve.

  • Hey Muso — I was wondering what you'd make of this, broad-ranging Muso that you self-evidently are! ;8) I'm stopping myself planning ahead, even to what sounds I might use — want to be spontaneous and reactive to what BC2 adds ....

  • What a very cool unique twist on a collab. :)

  • Great twist isn't it. A2zdiy and BC2 must take full credit — but I wonder if this concept will spread: it certainly stokes my juices .... do you 'stoke' juices? ;8)

  • This is a wonderful addition to this clever collab!

  • Why thank you very much Marc! It's a great collab idea a2zdiy's and BC2 put out there isn't it — and lovely to try connecting purely through music.

  • Cool!

  • Thanks msg! ;8)

  • Just how talented are you Mr Theramin.

Looking forward to hearing this develop in future episodes.

  • Thanks Pete — the lovely thing about this project is not knowing where it's going to go either!
