@rjl1184 Could of won the 1992 championship (I believe it was) but they were docked 30 points due to post race inspection, causing Dale Sr. to win title.
@rjl1184 Yeap, and I totally agree with you. Mark Martin is the greatest driver who never won a championship. I like to call him "The all time bride maid" to the Nascar title. In my opinion he should of retire after he was done with hendrick, because I grew up a Mark Martin and I was shocked to see him go to HMR, but now I say WOW why Michael Waltrip, why a Toyota? I think now I will start cheering for Carl Edwards or Danica Patrick.
Dale and Davey couldn't have been 1-2 in this race, considering Davey had been killed in that helicopter crash in the infield at Talladega the previous July. Ernie Irvan was driving the #28 Texaco car in 1994 until he, himself, was nearly killed at Michigan on August 20. By the way, this was the second big crash of this race, if I remember right, as Jimmy Spencer had triggered a huge crash at the same place on the track earlier.
Keep in mind their silence during the crash is due to it being during a commercial break. When Bob starts talking as Mark stands next to his car, coverage has resumed.
@1IIIIIIIIII1 if you have ever raced, then you would understand, imagin riding a roller coaster while going 5 times faster, then imagine that you are trying to compete with someone, then only you would understand mabey 25% of why these drivers love what they do.
@flubber342 I GET THE FEELING THAT YOU THINK I DONT UNDERSTAND..... PEOPLE LOVE DOING CRACK...BUT THAT DONT MEAN ITS A SMART OR GOOD WAY TO BE......HUMANS LOVE TO DO ALL KINDS OF UNNEEDED DANGEROUS THINGS....RACING IS JUST MANUFACTURED DRAMA AND HOLLOW SPORTS GLORY AND OR EGO FEEDIN BULLSHIT....UNDERSTAND?
@1IIIIIIIIII1 drugs are stupid and tastless, racing is fun and talentfull, it is 10 times more dangorus to drive your car 40 mph down the highway, because in a stock car, you have 10 times more protection than you have in a street car, indycar, f1, and othe open wheeled/cockpit auto racing sieries is still extremely dangorus, but it is no different from stock cars, and I don't get the manufactured drama part, there is no drama, more like cell phones and facebook is manufactured drama.
@1IIIIIIIIII1 so, you support people getting fucked up on crack or meth and going apeshit and ruining their lives? "some people love doing crack" yeah but it fucks you up. all sports can be fixed.
I absolutely LOVE getting to hear the live audio when they're not live on the air.....I remember watching all of these races live but getting to hear some of the things they talked about during commercials is very cool
Must be from the "wild feed" judging by Benny and Bob's banter. ( I used love those "wild feeds" ) 6: 12 Benny "This outa be a real shot"
8:23 does Marks voice sound an active or two higher? lol Glad he was ok though. dwarfcar76 , that's what I said when I watched it live he "nutted" himself 9:24
Martin did look like he was running 200 mph when he mowed down those barriers, that roof cam crash was so cool, and I agree with BP when he said "How did that Camera live through all that?"
R.I.P; Benny Parsons, one of my very fave Nascar Announcers.
I have this race on tape. At the 00:52 mark is when they went on the air, so thanks Old School for showing the stuff that was off air. That interview with Mark that's on one of the best ones ever haha. That little guy is one tough mother.
Same day that Senna was killed in Imola. Earnhardt gave his respects to him in victory lane.
Its amazing how the relief in Jenkins voice is so palpable, they really did think he was dead. Thankfully Mark only hit a couple of 'soft' barriers in a chain-link fence and a thin steel guardrail.
@MetalMilitia1811 That segment takes place during a commercial break in the broadcast.... This footage is from a direct satellite feed, and the announcers are not only talking to each other, but to the producers in the truck.
@MetalMilitia1811 This looks like a raw satellite feed, so it was still running while ESPN was on commercial break. You're seeing and hearing what happens during the breaks, so that's Bob and Benny just messing around until they come back on the air from the commercials.
I'm glad Mark turned out okay. That was a bad crash - I've never seen a race car pass through one guardrail and slam into a second one at such a high rate of speed. I'm also glad my favorite driver - Jeff Gordon - wasn't hurt in this accident, and that his car wasn't too badly damaged, although I'm always more concerned for a driver's safety than the condition of their race car.
Actually, it was early in this race, the 1994 Winston 500, that I first learned of the death of Ayrton Senna. The race had been put under caution early in the race because a fan had thrown an empty water bottle onto the track. It was during that caution period when the commentators mentioned Senna's death earlier that day. It was somewhat similar to 1975, when Mark Donohue and Tiny Lund (at Talladega) suffered their fatal crashes on the same day.
