  • "I'm sick of spending these lonely nights, training myself not to car." that line couldn't relate to my life anymore then it has for the past few months.

  • His voice does not match his looks

    But both are awesome

  • I live in ny but not the city and I barely go there lol

  • this video was not actually like this, i remember when i watched this 2 years ago and it didnt have any error or sync problems.... somehow it changed itself or i think its youtube fault since the layout was changed....

  • ugh, the piano guy ruined the song.

  • Hahaha this video looks totally fake. I know it's not fake because the video's messed up, but it's funny watching how fake it looks.

  • they should have played the whole damn album plus the b-sides.

  • the last interpol song i fell in love with.. but now i cant stop listening to it.. it took me years to admire this great piece of work!

  • Paul banks voice is so... Amazing.

  • I'm going to New York this summer for school and I can't wait. This will be the first song I'll play there. FINALLY i'm off to New York City!

It's up to me now. Turn on the bright lights.

  • hahaha it looks like playback

  • great song, sweet rickenbacker

  • Damn this song is so great. It puts you in a state of wonderful emotions. And they all look so cool playing it. I know this is crazy, but i'd totally go gay for the guys of Interpol lol

  • @kooldawgdizzle haha i agree

  • This IS one of interpols greatest songs... johannesjuanes is a freaking idiot.

  • Really the 1st time i see them with other instruments that are not the red Super Lucille, the black Les Paul and Carlo's full black Jazz Bass

  • @iBrA1MAN yeah, but thats cuz daniels casino got stolen while they toured for this, and i think carlos' bass is the same as always. he just put a black pickguard on it.

  • Amazing song (Y) i know you soported me for long time

  • this song isnt one of their best songs...... it sounds mediocre and like a rip off of other bands... post punk bands.. They know how to make mnusic a lot better , for example c mere , mamooth, obstacle roland pda are all great songs but not this one,.

  • this video.. it´s wrong...

    ..i mean.. it have errors...!

  • @intomock yeah i don't know what happened, i worked just fine before

these videos screw up for a little while and then turn back to normal, i'm just gonna wait it out : )

  • @azureamethyst I'm guessing you didn't take a lot of time processing.

  • These guys... are artists, they don't need headphones

  • keyboard guy sucks

  • I'm so completely in love with Dan Kessler<3!

  • its good to be reminded that it's okay to be human.

  • Good lord Gtrain229109...get a f'g clue about life ok!

  • when i first started listening to this, I was disgusted by all the imperfections in the lead singer's voice. Then I realized how desensitized electronic music has made us to the natural beauty of the human voice. Thank you for bringing me back from the Bieber-esque dark-side of contemporary music :)

  • This song is just the perfect song for when you're staring right into your "partners" eyes.

  • this video has some errors in it... a lot of errors with the video and audio quality.

  • @PoetryforPeople c'est pas ma faute

  • @azureamethyst

    ouais gros con de poetry

  • i cant watch this video without it fukin up, damn and i really like this song too

  • "sad" and "happy" usually can be infused into a singular sound in music...this song really pumps me up toward the end and really takes me somewhere..it seems to end on a positive note.

  • this song captures my experience in NYC 100% ...and why I hate and love this place so much

  • @TheSoundLabs agreed.

  • when was this?

  • LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS SONG!!!

  • subway she is a porno and the pavements they are a mess

  • Sam is just incredible at drums

  • All time epic tune! My surf trip soundtrack.

I would consider marriage if they'd perform for me on the day!

  • "It's Up To Me Now, Turn On The Bright Lights..."

  • "It's up to me now, turn on the bright lights..."

    This lyric is sheer bliss..

  • apoco es en vivo

  • obstacle 1 and nyc are my two fav songs from them

  • love love love this song! such an amazing band!!!

  • This song is really mood changing, to a sort of state of calm relaxed happiness.

  • @Supaduck0 werd up! This song was the trigger that got rid off my depression that was going on for nearly a year because of a lack of inner peace. Funny how a song can do that.

  • @Supaduck0 You must be kidding, it's extremely morbid how on earth could you put a word like happiness in a song like this! i mean it's a classic from Interpol and a great track but never a cheerful song , very sad song infact. There is a whiff of Joy Division looming over this particular track too..

  • @jameyinegypt Because the point of sad songs isn't to drag your mood down and ruin your day, it's to make you relax and feel ok with there being sad stuff in life

  • @Supaduck0 Fair comment.

  • i love new york

  • they had cooler guitars back then

  • i love it! "But hey who's on trial?"

  • One of the many albums to listen to while stoned...:]

  • "i'm sick of spending these lonely nights, training myself not to care"

    amen...

  • @sunflowertheory come hang out with me! jk lol

  • I could listen to this for hours. Literally ( I'm on hour three currently).

  • By far the best song in that album, besides every other song, it just makes me smile I can listen to it anytime, Sleeping, gaming even in the middle of class when i should be listening to my teacher

  • Who's the man on the keys?

  • Melancholic rock.

    There's nothing better.

They slightly remind me of Joy Division and Radiohead.

  • @alltoohuman17 Joy Division , yeah, not so sure about Radiohead though!

  • if you like this, you might like a song called "Ocean Rain" from Echo & the Bunnymen...You might like the band too...

  • i'm sick of spending these lonely nights training myself not to care..

  • This song means frustration...Imagine a moment on a rainy day while smoking a ciagarrette listening to NYC it's just perfect

  • paul looks better without glasses

  • wow. i never tire of listening to this song.

  • pretty good performance of a great rainy day song

  • Spectacular song! The guitar is WONDERFULLLLLLLL. No words...

  • Ive met the drummer a couple times... Hes a cool guy. Sharp dresser.

  • one of the most puzzleing drumbeats ever in a rock song

  • there's two bands...

    Interpol and Editors....

....so don't mix them up kids!!!

  • they sound pratically the same live as they do on the studio versions. this just shows you how great of a band they are

  • who was the keyboard player?!

  • Listen up jackass.

    Editors =/= Interpol. Simple.

Granted you got this insane idea from the lead vocals of both front men. Other then that how could you say they copy? Thats an insult to both bands. Both great but bring to totally different things to music.

  • Everytime a mid gothic electro rock band with a dark voice singer become popular, they are always compared to eachothers, its pathetic. Editors = Interpol, Interpol = joy Division, with a touch of The Cure...this style of music is unique, there should be a name for it and there should be more bands playin it.

  • @Balkanchux Agree and disagree! Editor's are more Joy Division influenced than Interpol are i would say, Paul Banks sound's very similar to Ian Curtis yes and also Jim Morrison of The Door's. Interpol are much better then Editor's though in my opinion.

  • 2:11 best drum beat ive heard in a long time

  • @Tehyamz

Yes, I've been saying that for like 7 years. It's still my favorite beat of all time.

  • Pretty much one of my favourite bands ever. After all the times I've listened to NYC, it still gives me chills. :)

  • editors and interpol are two very different bands, they were made more or less at the same time, but despite the voices they have a lot of differences i don't think neither is a copy of the other

  • where is the NYC video?

  • A perfect mix between Joy Division decadence and Radiohead sound.

    Wonderful band.

  • @ziozarzi Well, that could be in the beginning. Now it´s a bad copy of Editors except for the master piece Pace is the trick. The rest is just fine but not quite relevant

  • I have not yet listened last LP, my opinion is relevant above all to "Turn On The Bright Lights". Thanks for the reply. Bye.

  • @bi05655 idiot, Editors is a copy of Interpol

  • I think Lou Reed Too????

  • They sound like Kitchens of Distinction also.

  • just like wine...

  • yeah but after all these years it still sound amazing. I guess minimalism is the beauty of it.

  • The begining sound's so much like Atmosphere by Joy Division and the end too, so morbid, depressing, dark, gloomy, eerie even But put beautiful before each of those word's. They owe a lot to Joy Division and it show's on their debut Turn on the bright light's. Sheer , sheer genius here. 10/10

  • i like to shoot up to this song.

  • kocham <3

  • i love this video, their attitude back then looks so different

  • I could't agree more!

  • When the bass hits in briljant.

  • idk but i love the phrase "I'm sick of spending these lonely nights

    Training myself not to care"

  • ive always thought of it being sarcastic as in no one cares

  • yeahhhhhhhhh

  • yeah i bet this is how someone would feel in any random city they're not used to...

  • theres not a better song in the world to listen to when your walking down street

  • theres not a better song in the world to listen to when your [you're] illiterate.

  • sexy arrogance there.

  • Comment removed

  • i know you´ve supported me for long time somehow I´m not impressed .......

love this song, there´s nothing better than listening to it with your ipod whilst walking down the streets without any destination, aimlessly

  • I thought i was the only one haha, walking down a long breezy road, just before the sun is setting, no cars on the road, no people walking, just your own self and ipod.

  • it seems you´re wrong ;) and maybe we even walking by ourselves listening to the same tune ::)

  • Yeah maybe :)

  • @aglaia2006 ur still walking in a circle tho

  • @aglaia2006 I first read this comment as Paul was singing the first line you wrote. Somehow, I don't know, hard to explaiin but it made everything different, like right. Thanks, Changed it for me. Thanks. (:

  • Does anyone know of the black and white fan made music video for this song where the director has people holding cardboard signs with lyrics written on it is? I saw it a month or so ago and can't seem to find it now. Wonder if it has been removed?

  • yeah it was removed...pooo....

    NEW YORK CARES....

  • I personally think the song is just what NYC seems to someone who's not from there

  • This is powerfull song!! It thrills me everytime i hear it

  • Well I think this song is about 911. Look at the date when it came out. So what I think he means is the Subway was such a shocking mess of death and destruction that it could be classified as pornographic.

    Jm2cents

  • does anyone know exactly wat "subways she is a porno" means?

  • Killakinlaw: The "subways she is a porno" line imo is for the filth, the impersonal, the cheap and all that nasty stuff that goes on there. ...And this song was out after 9/11, when the city became more human, for a change, and we did start questioning ourselves. I remember seeing them downtown in this small club, playing this song after 9/11, and I was not the only one with teary eyes....I LUV NY

  • do these guys have a newrecord coming out soon?

  • theyre recording their 4th album

  • interpol rules!!!

  • The bass at 2 mins and on is incredible.

  • LOVE INTERPOL!!!....LOVE CARLOS...damn NO one can play bass like the way Carlos does!

  • heard this song for the first time on the radio in the car a few nights ago and was completely mesmerized

  • The early Pol days...

Carlos is way too adorable. I can't help it...

  • Great song, it is Brilliant.

  • The style and sound these talented individuals have is just not reconized enough today.... By far the best album i been introduced to

  • this song is so amazing it's inspired me to write a novel, which i am writing

  • wow! that's cool. good luck on your novel!

  • thanks, i'm on the second draft, if you want i can send you a part of it to read

  • haha, yeah, that'd be cool.

  • Favorite drum beat ever.

  • A stunning piece of music. Haunting, mesmerizing and fucking brilliant.

  • He's around my age thats so cool I usually like older men.

  • Do women usually like older men?

  • I think most younger women do while the older women tend to fall for younger guys.

  • It explains why I always get hit on by MUCH older women, lol.

  • I told you so. :)

  • This song is amazing :D

  • "It is up to me now, turn on the bright lights"
