in regards to the "unrealisticness" of anime, it doesn't detract from the messages they try to impart to the viewers; not in the form of lectures, but through the lives and actions of the characters, however outlandish they may be. Angel Beats, for example. It's set in "Heaven", but the point of the anime is to demonstrate the value of life and the fact that ours could end at any moment; Bokurano kind of says the opposite, that life is unfair, and that no matter how hard we try, we are helpless.

Monster is an anime with pretty realistic aspects and storyline, I'd even consider it a 'realistic fiction' themed anime. Note that I'm not going against all of your comments, I'm just stating a less common example of a realistic show. Pardon my bad English, it's not my native language.
