Why does German authority allow people to drive as fast as they want? Is it trust? Is it something else? I don't know of any other country in the world that allows this. Speed limits in the Americas are around 120km/h; I think even 160km/h or 180km/h would be a nice limit. But... 330km/h. It's great, but if some newbie takes the wheel of his dad's Enzo?

to get a driver´s license you´ve got to be 18 years old and participate in several hours of theoretical and practical lessons. You learn how to drive in the city as well as on the autobahn. Your car has to be in a appropriate condition or you can trash it. Plus the rules to always drive on the right lane, if you are not overtaking, makes it pretty save to drive the autobahn at high speed.

I drive on the autobahn almost every day... 1st. I love it that theres no speedlimit. But not all people drive that fast. most people drive between 120-180 km/h. even though 180 is fast, there are still guys that go MUCH faster... But a lesser percentage of people are killed on the german autobahn than on american highways... not only because of the car requirements but also because the drivers ed is much harder than in the usa... don´t know about other countries..
Also with a speed limit, rather than people being able to adapt to a speed that is safe based on the traffic around them they have to stick to a uniform speed limit therefore putting more pressure on drivers, making them anxious and more likely to do something stupid, thats my theory anyways.

Yep, thats right. The rules where 1,5 liter turbo or 3 liter without turbo. Bmw's engine had 1350hp during a qualify run in 84 (not 100% sure about the year, bu t close), 1,5 liter based on the M10 engine block used in 2002 tii in the 70's.

McLaren F1 would be impossible to drive on an Autobahn at that speed. Although it is a unbelievably quick car, its handling is pathetic and would cause an accident with cars on the road no matter how good of a driver you are.

It's actually illegal now. As is flashing your headlights, or driving to close. It's called "besetting" in the german traffic law.
But you can always overtake them on the right side. Costs way less when you get caught and you get to make them very angry.

Limiter is at 257km/h to be exact and you'll need a racing license type C or higher to get the car shipped without it.
Look it up on their homepage (which I did) or ask a BMW dealer. They wont do it on all cars, but some.

Whoever made the dumbass corvette comment: you can't get 2000hp out of any Vette engine, not even the 7L LS7, even if you had $300k to try and make it support that much horsepower. Then you claim that this super-duper 2000hp 45k Vette will sound better than a V10 purring german beast. You're forgetting that the Vette is only an american V8. Next you talk about fuel economy, wtf? Do you think somebody who can afford a $450,000 car cares?

I can see a 2000hp LSx block. No traction obviously beyond the realm of slicks, but still.

lol i doubt the fuel consumption will be less then carrera gt with 2000HP :) I would also consider the 2000HP makes it undrivable on a track, 2000hp is good for short straight lines like drag races.

dont talk stupid things, dragster's have maybe 2000HP but they go only straight. A GP car with 2000HP would be undrivable on a track. It will slide in every corner.

Some Formula 1 cars have 4 cylinder engines with over 800hp, I remember reading about it in an F1 track guide I bought at a Grand Prix race in Montreal. Scale that up to six, eight or twelve cylinders and you can image, with the right engineering, you can get a lot of horsepower - even from engines with only four cylinders!

Some Formula 1 cars had 4 cylinder engines and turbo in the 80s, not anymore. "Engines are mandated as 2.4 litre normally aspirated V8s, with many other constraints on their design and the materials that may be used...
For 2007 the V8 engines are restricted to 19,000 rpm with limited development areas allowed, following the engine specification freeze from the end of 2006."

Yep, thats right. The rules where 1,5 liter turbo or 3 liter without turbo. Bmw's engine had 1350hp during a qualify run in 84 (not 100% sure about the year, bu t close), 1,5 liter based on the M10 engine block used in 2002 tii in the 70's.

Did you see the motorcyclist on the other side of the road rubbernecking at the end of the video? Must've heard that thing coming a mile away. We're blessed to be graced by such great vehicles. Love the idea of sitting in the middle of the vehicle when driving instead of one side or the other. However, after seeing the Bugatti Veyron in Top Gear...whoa.

McLaren F1 would be impossible to drive on an Autobahn at that speed. Although it is a unbelievably quick car, its handling is pathetic and would cause an accident with cars on the road no matter how good of a driver you are.
Personally I would take the GT over the Zonda also...
