  • "Our favourite game was chicken"

Well not exactly, when you know youre gonna lose every time.

  • The deepest and most meaningful movie I've ever seen

  • this is a must-see movie in my univ to remind every student about our true responsibility as life scientist gonna-bes...

    Greate FUN ^^'

    Greate IDEA

  • I always try to never save anything for the swim back....

I am willing to risk it all.....

  • KateHope..you missed the point and meaning of the quote 'I never saved anything for the swim back.'

There is nothing aimless about it. Vincent wanted to win so badly that he risked everything. He's even willing to give up his life to achieve his dream!

In the final Rocky movie Rocky says "it's not about how hard you can hit, it's about how hard you can GET hit and keep moving forward, that's how winning is done." Gattaca, awesome movie!

There's no gene for the human spirit!

  • Gattaca and Rocky Balboa are two of the best movies ever.

  • @08030309961 That's not all. It goes deeper. You know how he says : "We're closer to the other side" just after that^ I think it implies that Vincent is going to die when he comes back from space (he mentions that he should have been dead by now). Remember the end: "For someone that was never meant for this Earth, I must confess: I have a hard time leaving it". He probably think he's never coming back.

  • one of the best movies i've ever seen

  • à mon avis ,une des plus belles réflexions de cette magnifique histoire: la force du rêve qui sublime la réalité de l'embûche.

"...j'ai gagné parceque je n'ai jamais pensé au retour..."

  • nicely spliced

  • i love love this movie!!! it also reminds me of my two older brother... so inspiring for me.. i simply like everything about this movie.

  • i love love this movie!!! it also reminds me of my two older brother...and of course reminding me not to give up as well this is so inspiring for me.. i simply like everything about this movie.

  • Thank u so much for uploading this vid... I had to compare the 3 swim scenes for my project. Thank u so much!!!

  • I'm white and live in South Africa. Don't know if that fits, but somehow I can imagine how it is being forced to live in a society in which you belong to the minority. In my childhood I was beaten up because of my color.

  • That's not the best exemple buddy. The white minority in South Africa controls the majority of the country's economy. The in-valid minority in Gattaca is one that has no rights and no hopes of a better future. You really can't compare that. Gattaca is like apartheid but for a minority rather than a majority.

  • First of all I am no buddy, but a woman. Secondly, you're right. But I talked about something different. You don't know my country, how it is to be a white minority between all this black racist cattle. I didn't talk about economy domination. I meant the real life, if you're white it can happen you are beaten up for no reason, get raped.

It's really a hard life for people like me down here, where blacks are the real racists.

Please understand that, I know what I'm talking about.

  • I'm sure black woman get the same kind of treatment, it's just less spoken of.

  • Well, sure. But there are lots of them. ;)

And if you'll ever come to this nation somehow, you'll see. Black men unfortunately have some passion for the white female skin. No offense intended of course.

  • People think only whites can be racist for some reason, I live in southern california and theres blacks all over, growing up i was also beaten up and picked on for being white in black and hispanic area. And in the schools teachers didn't really care until i cracked a black kids head open against a wall in jr highschool and was expelled. Then my parents were able to transfer me to a better school, where i had no problems. So the point is, crack some heads and things will get better. :)

  • love this film!

  • The sentence in your description is wise. Really, there is no gene for the human spirit. I can tell stories about this.

I have been used to be a sort of stutterer for the whole of my life. It is some kind of genetic disease with unknown origin. Gattaca helped me a lot managing with this "disease". And that's why I can emphasize with Vincent very well somehow.

No matter what genetic malfunction you're suffering from, the human spirit doesn't consist of the known elements and can't be measured.

  • @Biochips1 - There exists a new therapy for stutters where the patient wears an earpiece that repeats sound (such as patient's speech) with a minor delay. I have no idea how it works but I have seen some great test footage. I suggest you look into that. I'm so sorry I just don't know the name for it. I wish you the best of luck with this.

  • One of the best scenes in this movie! This scene changed (saved) my life, makes me feel better each time I watch it. I haven't got "Gattaca" on DVD yet. That's why I thank you now for this posting.

"I've never saved anything for the swim back."

This line has become one of my life mottos. It tells us all how we should cope with life. Don't think of loosing something or going back home, just move on and see what you get. Science tells much, but you mustn't listen to it, you make your way anyway

  • I couldn't agree more.

  • i meant soo trueeee , really inspiring

  • soo trueeeeeeee
