the excitement this bit of film brings makes me think of my spotting days at Newcastle Airport.....vulcans, jp's, buccaneers, lightings ,jaguar's, f-4's us and uk, and of course the a-10's and the ov-10's.....so sad they are all gone but thanks for this....will have to get there one day!
The low flying exercises tha take place in these valleys. I was just wanted to know how frequent they are. is it kind of a 'Can't miss' (always going on, daily) or more of a on & off (needing to know when they are) Just i'd love to go up to these valley's to get some vid's & photos up there only to find out nothing was going on :'(
@whitewingsrich Wednesdays and Thursdays mate. Theyre the best days as most stuff is flying then. If its sunny and a wednesday or thursday, youre guarenteed a few through the loop. Its mostly Hawks, Hurcs, Tucanos, tiffies, Tonkas and F15s that pass through, but if youre lucky youll get something like this, or a french/ dutch ect aircraft.
@DigitalEllins The RAF boys dont fly on weekends and im sure the yanks dont either. And ive heard that they refrain from flying fridays just incase they have to emergency land at another base and have to wait with the aircraft messing up their weekend.
@stephenpprice Okay well I assumed everyone would think weekdays, they don't fly at weekends, especially low level unless there is a flypast planned or something. As for Fridays, that simply isn't true. Some of the best days have been on Fridays for low level activity. Warton like to have a play as do the Eagles and is usually business as normal up until about 3pm when it tends to go quiet.
How cool are A-10s and their sound. Saw these breaking the rules a bit as they came through Elan Valley that day, I was training a student, they came down off the top over Claerwen and dropped down past the mutton farm and in to Garreg Ddu and flicked right on to their canopy side over the Garreg Ddu Dam and the flicked left in to Caban Coch....with vapor trails!! Awesome they were well under the normal limit, my student was shaking lol Congrats of the catch :-)
When I was based at 16 air defence regt in linconshire they used to fly around trying to avoid the rapier missile systems locking on to them, it was great to watch. We were also just a few miles from scampton so we often had the red arrows train above our house, A good posting for a plane fan. Nice film, keep up the good work.
Nice catch, think I would be hollering too, used to love seeing them flying over the Yorkshire wolds, very distinctive sound those two GE Turbo fans made.
Yes ben they are quite rare in the UK now, they used to based at Alconbury I do believe but that base has now closed. As far as I am aware A-10 are no longer based in the UK.
Just remember, when they fly straight at and over you, it's because they practiced lining up a strafing run with their GAU-8, and you were the target.
This is a pretty rare sighting at the Loop isnt it? it's the only video I've ever seen on youtube with A-10s. Plus that one dude is pretty psyched! :-)
Those are A-10's from Spangdahlem Air Base in Germany. I was a weapons loader on A-10's in the 75th Fighter Squadron from Pope AFB in North Carolina. That squadron has since relocated to Moody AFB in Valdosta Georgia. Good times working that plane..
Awesome, I was at the Loop the week before and I heard that the A-10's were in Lakenheath and the rumours of them possibly flying through - didn't think they would!
Awesome video thanks for sharing. Just wondering if you get any pre info on what is possibly flying through? There seemed a lot of people at Cad West that day expecting something special!
Awesome!

@stephenpprice Sorry but all days have equal chance as each other, just keep an eye out for exercises/NOTAMS/weather etc.

Wow! what a great capture, especially as they appeared from the left of cadwest, which doesn't give much time to get the video camera ready.
