He also interviewed for his alma mater Nebraska, and Bo Pelini was hired for the same reason. I was shocked like everyone else, but it came out that Chizik knocked their socks off in the interview with his plan and the coaching staff he already contacted and thought would be interested in the job.

I understand Barkley's feelings. I think Chizik was hired because he has Auburn ties from when Auburn went undefeated in 2004. As I recall he was the Defensive Coordinator of one of the best defenses to ever grace an Auburn football field. I believe Chizik convinced Jacob's he loves Auburn and can turn things around at Auburn. I also wanted Turner Gil at Auburn but now that I've seen Chizik and his staff in action I'm not disappointed in the least. It's about fit not race/resume sometimes.

The outrage in this was the fact Turner Gill got passed over by someone who had the same or worse credentials than him, who was white. I don't agree with Chizik's hiring, but I don't believe Turner Gill should have been hired either on the record that he is inexperienced. You know who else was in the running? Bronco Mendenhall of BYU, Kyle Wittingham of Utah, Boise State's Chris Peterson and TCU's Gary Patterson. I dont think Chizik should be there, I think one of the four I mentioned shouldve.

I agree, Auburn should have kept Tubberville. The fact that Chizik had losing teams at Iowa St. makes me question Auburn. Was the interview w/Gill given to pacify critics, "yeah we'll give the n**gers what they want, but..." If Chizik had some success, I would NOT question Auburn, although I feel the SEC has a gentleman's agreement. Yeah, I can live with Gill being passed over for a more viable candidate.

Yeah I'm serious! There are only 1696 spots available each year in the NFL; 450 in the NBA, maybe 350 overseas and South America. Not many incoming players grab those spots per year.
