  • Brilliant!!! Haven't seen thaat like that ever! Lightening and captivating energy...

  • Circus yoga!

  • He is a dynamic dancer for sure and a very charismatic teacher. I do find his bodily stance is very different from any other Kathak dancer. He dances with his legs very wide apart and very bent, almost in an aramandi. To me that makes it look awkward.

  • @rannajim Actually, he does that only sometimes. Believe me, I've learned from him. The traditional kathak position is always there.

  • too short, would have like to see more of this genius in kathak dance

  • I'd like to see more videos of just Chitresh dancing...maybe even from his earlier years

  • Saswati Sen, has gained alot of weight. I can see that... When she had performed a duet with Pt. Birju Maharaj, she was so slim at that time...

  • He has such amazing speed, but also such control of movement. LOVE IT!

  • Hello Sushmitaji, I was a little perplexed when I saw your video... I am wondering what was the reason for posting a video response. Please clarify.

  • To "sushgun". I can only assume that you have posted a video response to the Pandit Das video to illicit comparison in which case, you have many lifetimes of practice ahead of you to even be considered for comparison with this master.

  • What can I say? There is only one DADA in this world, and that is Chireshda. He is the the mahayogi of Kathak in the world!!

  • This makes SO MUCH SENSE to me. Wow. I would love to take these kinds of classes.

  • Panditji's dance company demonstrated Kathak Yoga at "Kathak at the Crossroads", a phenomenal gathering of the best artists and academics in the Kathak world last year in September 2006. The response to his work was overwhelming. It is not a gimmick, it is a serious discipline and meditation.

Panditji's company will be giving a performance of Kathak Yoga this September 28,29,30th at the Cowell Theater in San Francisco in a new collaborative work: INDIA JAZZ PROGRESSIONS.

  • Kathak Yoga is one aspect of Panditji's work that he is developing. If you watch carefully, there are a minimum of 3 things happening that require a great amount of concentration: singing of nagma and recitation, improvisation on the tabla and improvisation of the feet.

Obviously, a subject that cannot be confined to the 500 words allowed for comments her.

  • I've seen Pandit Chitresh Das perform this technique before and am so thankful to see it up here. He's twice my age and the swiftness and rhythm of the feet, combined with the crispness of his hands and the richness of his voice were hypnotizing. That kind of skill, technique and embodiment of rhythm is unbelievable.

  • Where can I see more Kathak Yoga. This is amazing!!!

  • I have seen Panditji do Kathak Yoga and also by his students. It began as a meditation and exercise for his students in class to build stamina, strength, and mastery of taal and rythm (laykari). It requires an incredible amount of concentration and focus. It has only just started being performed due to its popularity and demand by the audience members. It really was dynamic! Its not meant to be an entire art form on its own. It is an innovative technique done within the art form of Kathak.

  • Well, rather than dismiss what I saw, I thought I would educate myself and find out what kathak yoga actually is. There is an interesting article on Wikipedia on the subject and I actually found out that there is a Harvard graduate, Dr. Sarah Morelli who has written about it in her dissertation.

  • lol kathak yoga....seems more like you would like to do on " India got talent" rather than an artform. either play a tabla, do kathak or sing. why do everything together. not something anybody would enjoy watching. not at least me.

the foot work of panditji is great. but thats about it i guess.

  • This is unusual - seeing a dancer playing tabla and dancing at the same time. Does anyone know of more examples of "kathak yoga"?
