By the way, I've met Jose Mojica Marins several times on conventions, and he is a true gentleman. He's a well known celebrity, but does not behave like one.
America has this rich and old "horror" culture, that traces back to England and Europe. Halloween, horror films, monsters, it's deep within the american culture, like the "americana" wicked side.
Brazil, on the other hand, has none of these cultural traits. Modern horror comes from american movies, which are often seen as ridiculous, juvenile B-productions. Coffin Joe is, literally, the only horror producer in this country. His early 60s films were true accomplishments.

But one thing I have to say: I never realized it is so good. The mainstream media tend to ridicularize José Mojica so much that we don't get to know it.

I saw these movies on IFC and really enjoeyd The 2 "AT Midnight" films. I'm waiting to see "Embodiment of Evil" when it's released on DVD in the US. On You Tube, someone posted a good portion of the opening of the new film and it looks pretty neat.
No worries. I'm not a atheist myself, but as long as I'm not talked down to for believing in an invisible man in the sky who watches everything I do, I don't judge.
As for the movies, I agree. When you think about them in the context of time period and culture, these firms are both very spooky and disturbing.
When you have a person like Coffin Joe who does not believe in God/Good OR the Devil/Evil, there really is NO limit or boundary to what he can or will do, and that's what makes him such a terrifying character.

@dapi88 I'm glad he did. Gore and violence, in my opinion, aren't on the same level as boobs and nudity. It's hard to explain it, but I just don't fine it that appealing. Not that I find lots of gore and blood appealing, but I can get used to it rather quickly, while with boobs, I just feel dirty watching it... In a bad way.

@dapi88 I'm glad he did. Gore and violence, in my opinion, aren't on the same level as boobs and nudity. It's hard to explain it, but I just don't fine it that appealing. Not that I find lots of gore and blood appealing, but I can get used to it rather quickly, while with boobs, I just feel dirty watching it... In a bad way.

@EctoChameleon Maybe I AM Immature, so what? Some people are just like that. And it's not like I'm perfectly okay with extreme violence either. It's more along the lines of "sex is stuff that's suppose to be appealing so we'll exploit it", and I end up feeling dirty and disgusting for even looking at it. But I also feel like, if I see too much blood or violence, especially when it's depicting realistically, I feel sick to my stomach. So... yeah.

@Lunarvx22 Well Gosh, went you put it look that, it certainly makes me look like I'm the asshole. Look, I just don't care for that sort of thing. I know sex is necessary to preserve our species (and boobs are too, to some extent, since they procude milk for babies), but I feel like that should be more private and not on the forefront. Or at least not in an exploitative manner like we see most of the time.
