I remember when I first flew with Delta Air Lines back in 1996. The over all theme was very professional yet relaxing (the theme music, flight attendant uniforms, etc.) Now its more rushed and frantic in both their service and their safety information. Its just as efficient as it was back then (a little more now possibly) but I wish they would have kept this overall theme, logo and reassuring service. It made my flying experience more enjoyable and made me feel more secure flying with them
My sons referred to this as the "sandstorm Hair" video. Guess they saved a few bucks not paying actors or giving employees the time off to appear in the video. Just the beginning of the downfall and continuing collapse of a once great airline due to incompetent management.
Erm, a lot of companies have animated (3D or 2D) safety videos. Delta isn't the first or the last to do so.
The following have used 2D animation: British Airways
The following have used 3D: United Airlines (see the old A319 video), Malev, the Victory Interactive Media ones (LTU, Swiss, Aeromexico, Qatar Airways, etc.), Lufthansa, Air Berlin, Hapag Lloyd/TUIFly
i wish I was just 10 years younger...I could have been on soo many cool planes. I love how retro this is...i mean...how many people today would stap a baby onto a sife vest like a cradle?! Haha..funny...but pretty cool!
I vaguely remember this safety video, but I think it was on the LAST flight I took on a Delta L-1011. Yeah, they were gas guzzlers but they were Delta's top of the line for years. LUXURIOUS (especially back in the 70's)!
Judging from the beat, the music at the end appears to be Adiemus, the wonderful piece which was used in the famous Delta commercial with the planes flying in formation. Anyone can confirm this? Thanks!
Sometimes the flight deck crew toggles the switch repeatedly, normally to notify the cabin crew of imminent turbulence or something of that kind, in the video probably just to make the pax aware of the position of the sign itself.
You haven't even heard of this company??? Hmmm... well where have you lived then??? Delta is America's and the world's 2nd largest airline measured by passengers enpalned and fleetsize and the 3rd largest by RPM (Revenue Passenger Miles).
This video was shown on DL from the mid till the late 90's. So it isn't that old!
It was voted best airline safety presentation video a couple of years in a row.
Way to go Delta!!! Good to see you back now stronger than ever!
i flew clt to slc and they showed the life vest portion is this just nwa cause the oly water we flew near was lake michigan and we could glide to land if anything
I remember seeing a USA today story when Delta started using this type of animation. Delta thought it might make passengers pay more attention, instead of "real actors". Does anyone know the name of the process they used for creating the animation?
The video is showing the use of the life vest, isn't this video shown as Delta's demo on Int'l flights, as well as any portion of a domestic flight that may be flown over water?
If you fly over land, the airline is not required to show you directions for using a life vest because at not time during the flight will you fly over water.
yes you do. it depends on if the aircraft is life vest equipped and the way the carriers certification is worded. for example, on 01 may 2007, the combination of operations with america west and us airways will require a demo of life vests on all non video, life vest equipped aircraft---even if you fly from charlotte to nashville there will be a live demo of the vest because the primary means of flotation on the "former east" aircraft is the vest.
I miss the L-1011 also that aircraft flew me to San Diego
