  • -3 this song!!!

  • Great song. Who wouldn't want to get right in time with Lucinda? She's a real gem and a superb musician.

  • One of my favourite songs of all time......

  • anyway..nice lyrics..

  • What? For your 25 bucks you want a photographic memory? I like that she feels loose in order to emote, even if that means sher needs a prompt at the beginning of each verse. Let the paid guys memorize each note change.

  • She always preforms with the music stand, and yes it is sheet music

  • I saw Lucinda open for Neil Young a few years back and was blown away by her stuff. She didn't have any stand in front of her then but it sure does look like she is looking down at each verse for something. What else could it be but lyrics ? very strange. never seen anybody else do this on stage.

  • @seapro17 It's lyrics...saw her tonight and was close up and saw the lyrics. She doesn't read them but glances at them here and there.

  • Such a sexy song..."..ooooh my baaaaby" !

  • the best descriptive song of all time of what is done in the privacy of the bedroom when a woman is feelin lonely for her man!!!! LOVE IT LU'

  • I don't like how the audience is hooting. It's an intimate song and they are responding to the lyrics like she's doing a strip show.

  • love her

  • So good!^^

  • Yah I think she's blasted for this date...

  • It don't get any better than Lucinda. She's got it all in one package....

  • When I seen her in concert she put on a hell of a show!

  • I really connect to this song for some reason and I thank you for it. It says what I cant say outloud sometimes.

  • maybe it looks as if she's quote "reading the words to you" because she's sad....one of the things i love about lucinda williams is that you can actually see some emotion in her eyes. dumbass.

  • it's so similar to an old Ramazzotti' song... beautiful anyway

  • she looks like she's bored out of f'ing mind. oh my god. this is funny. is she drunk?

  • I think I was at this show. Isn't that the old Club Soda in Montreal? Or am I hallucinating?

  • Obviously a great song and everything, but what is wrong here? Is it just me or is this a very uninspired performance? Her fans deserve better.

  • Take your significant other to see LW or Dwight Yoakim live. Go home and you will see what it does to your sex life. I'm batting a 1000 sor far.

  • I first heard this song on the "L Word" and I felt like I'd like I'd been run over by a truck...in a good way...

  • hehe totally agree

  • Is that where you found it too?!?

  • @BleedLikeMe74 I SO agree with you :)

  • Nice!

  • All main singers have a microphone in their ear where someone is actually telling them the words, they try to do it discreetly. I Give her soo much credit for just putting it out there that she is still human and needs a reminder. She is an awesome singer =)

  • The lead guitar is beautifully understated...throughout the album. Just the right licks.

  • I agree. Pettibone is the shit!!!

  • Sexy, for sure. This song makes me blush. Gonna see her live in Bloomington, IN in a couple of weeks.

  • pierce the skin and the blood runs through,

this whole song is the feeling you get inside when you've found one and the ride is only 5 seconds away

  • I love her and this song particularly. It's one of the most incredibly sexy songs of all time, and she somehow takes that white trash accent and turns it into something sublime, almost holy.

  • She is completely awesome.

  • never heard of her til this year...all her songs rock......she's one of a kind..keep rocking lu lu

  • Track one on "Car Wheels", right ? Brilliant song. Love this...she's dead sexy.

  • To all the people debating the music stand - from a follower of her Australian Tour

...The reason for the stand is obvious - there is a different set each night. While about half the songs are common, every time you go you hear something different, from a big back catalogue. So I think Lucinda just needs a glance, a reminder at the lyrics, and she goes "Yes, that's it", and just lets rip!!!!

I mean, give here a break and celebrate her talent - how many of your written words can you remember?

  • I LOVE it :D

  • She writes so many wonderful songs.. Hell yeah you need a music stand to remember.. Especially when you don't play your own songs every day. Ask Picasso to paint the same way each time.

  • I saw this live at the catalyst and she is something sexy.Besides being one of the better writers in music she has a Bob Dylan type of sound. You either like it or you hate it.I love bob and Lucinda because I can relate to the songs and love the off singing.Lucinda is my favorite gal.

  • i love this track so much xx :)

  • I have seen her live and she is so totally unscripted and unrehearsed and refreshing it blows you away! It is a GOOD time!!!

  • I'm not sure anyones really worried about it. In fact since I posted about it two months ago it never crossed my mind.

  • This women writes such fantastic music....why are people worried whether she uses a music stand or not?

  • I went out of my way to see her in SF. Amazing singer, just as good live as on CD/MP3.

  • Just like Frank at the end...total teleprompter...but she still rocks

  • They ALL use them...located low and to the floor, but they all use them...her's is just a tad more obvious, because it's lyric sheets on a stand, and not on a teleprompter on the floor. She is fantastic, but I do hope it's not senility or booze...

  • I just mean that I personally get extremely nervous when it comes to public speaking. I remember Lucinda saying she gets pre-concert anxiety (something to that effect), but when she gets on stage, she's fine. I think that it takes guts to overcome that feeling and still get out there and sing the way she does. She doesn't hold anything back. She's a great singer! She ROCKS!! You're right, she's also seems willing to bend the rules and not stick with a pre-defined set of songs. So very cool.

  • I never even noticed the lyrics book until it was brought to my attention on the internet. When I get in front of people, my brain goes totally blank, don't know why, but I've always been that way. I guess I get nervous and can't think as straight as I would like. But these days, I rarely have to get up in front of alot of people. I give Lucinda alot of credit. She is still getting out there and giving it her all. Can't ask for more than that.

  • I've never seen Lucinda live but it could be that she doesn't always stick to a list and she liked to pull something out of her catalogue from way back and having the book there might be for that reason. Doing something she hasn't done in years.

She seems like the type that would honor requests too which would be another reason for having the book there.

  • I haven't seen her live either, so I can see what you are saying. She does seem like a straight up person that would honor requests. However, I also kind of see my perspective as well, if you know what I mean.

  • I've seen her several times and although she'll sing something requested out of the audience she she does not allow it to get out of hand and totally ditch her set list. I've notived the later in the tour it gets the more she looks like the song book.

  • Even when you write songs sometimes your mind draws a blank when you perform them. Lucinda is awesome. I just hope she isn't drinking too much.

  • I couldn't say for sure but being a singer/songwriter/guitarist myself I use a music stand and I don't always need it but for a new song it's good to have and I imagine it has both chords and lyrics.

She probably uses it at times for the lyrics, sometimes for the chords, sometimes both and then sometimes not at all. I could care less if a performer uses it. Most are using a prompter these days anyway.

As for her singing out of tune it doesn't matter. She's Lucinda. She's established. An artist

  • Well, maybe she just uses it (the stand) as a podium (Sp?). But ya.. whatever right? she's Lucinda and she does what she wants and probably realy doesnt care what you or I think about it.

  • saw her three times and I'd see her as many more times as i possible could...she rocks...for real.

  • reading the words while singing is not the norm but it is not that unusual either, most people are not aware of it....it's no big deal...what a song and what a performer!

  • Well, I for one sometimes attempt to play music and write songs- and I'm more than feelin it. Once your catalog is as big as Lucinda's (and it never will be) you might want some notes. Heathen. Bloodclot.

  • Yeah, it's hard to believe that someone would criticize one of the best songwriters alive today, right? She gets me too.....

  • wow, you were right up front! great video quality too. well done, giovinctu !!

i've never gotten closer than the 6th row meself. LU is the best!!!!

  • Saw her 3 times in the last year, Nashville( got to meet her), Mpls, and Austin Tx. She was awesome at every show. Doug Pettibone is her lead guitar player. The guy is underrated. Just awesome.

  • Poor Pettibone! He doesn't get any face time in this video! My GF met him in Indy one night, unfortunately I wasn't there to meet him too! Shucks!

  • I concur. Pettybone does not get the props deserved but Lu knows it and recongnizes him.

  • correction...Pettibone. misspelled the name.

  • she's not really staying in tune

  • dude if you drank that much you'd ferget werds too!!!

  • she reads the words...everyone knows that

  • Well,I have seen her live three times and she did not read words any of those times.

  • It didn't look like she was reading "the freakin words" to me. Maybe it's sheet music, after all, she is a musician. How long has she been playing with these 3 guys? Does she use a music stand when whe is performing solo?

  • I saw Lucinda playing for several times, and she always has that songbook besides her on stage. She once said that she doesn't really need it, but she feels more comfortable when it's there, and it's better than forgetting the lyrics. Actually many people "read" lyrics on stage, but they use a screen which looks like a monitor speaker instead a real book.

  • so it really is just the lyrics? no guitar chords? oohh, all apologies.

  • I'm really surprized that more people don't know that.

  • @giovinctu and Beadgeek33

and we dont care if she's reading anyway, do we! She freakin' ROCKS!

  • @giovinctu my hand slipped and I hit the thumbs down instead of thumbs up. Sorry, your point is valid.

  • @BeadGeek33

I can't remember the song, but a few years ago I saw Lucinda play LA and she forgot the lyrics mid song. The lyric sheet was apparently missing from her songbook.

They tried the song again later in the set after after the lyrics had been retreived. As the fates would have it, the 2nd pass thru the song lacked the fire of the first.

  • @BeadGeek33 its really not uncommon..you just dont usually get to see it...its a lead sheet...lyrics with chords above them words...she knows the melody...

  • @BeadGeek33 its really not uncommon..you just dont usually get to see it...its a lead sheet...lyrics with chords above them words...she knows the melody...she doesnt read it....usually just a glance and she sees a word or two that prompts her for the next lyric....

  • @BeadGeek33 - She typically has sheet music/lyrics with her on stage due to the fact that she's typically drunk on her ass. She's an alcoholic.

  • @MrBlackBrit oh cool..always felt I had something in common with her, but I couldn't put my finger on it...

  • Amazing!

  • i still cant believe she reads the freakin words
