big stuff, but id definately take jerseys barrels at 10-12 feet every once in a while over obx's more consistent large size any day. i mean the tops of those waves just kind of slide down
@Tom6093 or mayportpolls and a place the place i surf sunglowpier gets very good almost like pipe ( not as big but still head high to overhead barrels is still fun)
Always good to get big surf here...going back to 68 this day would not rate in the top 20. In the heyday of northeasters and CLEAN hurricane swells there were swells as big and bigger, but clean, fast, hollow and long. Too bad it was before the day of digital photography. .As for surfing big waves do not mistake East Coast size for Hawaii and West Coast. Pacific swells are thicker and faster But it is only water
Hey there I am not from the west coast. I have been surfing the Outer Banks for 41 years and counting. It was big but we have had cleaner at the same size.
@TheCypressmooninn The perfect storm swell back in 1991 made this day look like it was only head high. . I am pretty sure that was one of the biggest surfable days in history.
@feud1111 Hey there,,the perfect storm swell was big but was closing out with a bad backwash. hurricane Lilly in 1996 was the longest lasting, biggest, cleanest surf I have ridden here. The swell two weeks after Lilly was hitting the top of the duck Pier. that pier is 24 ft. off the water Also the Palm Sunday swell of 1976. I started in 1968 and still at it
so i was there that day but wasnt gnarly enough to surf it.. i surfed 2 days later when it was only headhigh.. haha that shit was triple..it was freakin Mavericks on the east coast it was epic as hell
absolutely sick i've been to the outer banks every summer of my life and in 8 Days, it'll b the 13th!!! the waves down there r usually 4-6 feet on average but these r like 20!!!
ha yea too bad this only happens "once every decade". But obx has some nasty waves every now and then, can't wait to go there this year. is this noel?
i was just their the other day about two weeks agon on the 3rd i visited st. waves nagshead obx the waves are pretty big their withought any hurricanes

The place to be for this swell was Palm Beach. About one third the size but much cleaner (and warmer).

and jersey is the east coasts answer to "the east coast might get some big waves but sucks for barrels."
chipleader14 1 month ago
@chipleader14 I think it's Jersey, OBX, and Central East Florida that gets the best waves on the East Coast.
