I imagine the ten people who didn't like your tank are international terrorists, insane, or else accidently hit the wrong key when they went to vote. This is one of the best I've ever seen and I've been staring into aquariums for about a half a century. the selection of invertibrates and fish shows amazing planning, discipline, good judgement, great execution and a really fine aesthetic sense for putting it all together, Fine job!
WOW.....this is one of the most colourful set-up in here. Very nice. Only wish you had your camera on a tripod with less panning and zooming.....very distracting, reduces the relaxation mood.
I personally disagree with Kona. I also have grown up in Hawaii, and yes the reefs are quite plain. BUT they have always been plain. Fish are not taken off of Hawaii's reefs, there are very strict laws that prevent this from happening. Most fish these days are commercially grown and raised. The fish that are caught off of reefs come mostly from Florida and Tahiti. Also I think that aquariums are a great thing, and that they teach people more about marine biology and oceanic responsibility. So,
Not cool. Coral reefs are being decimated by fish collectors for aquariums. In Hawaii many of these fish cannot be found as so many have been taken off the reef that they are nearly gone. Fish in the ocean live many years longer than fish in tanks. Aquariums are cruel and mean destruction of the ocean environment. View the video "Hawaii Audubon Society" to learn more!
Beautiful tank.. HOWEVER, I'm sure I can grow red slime algae better than you! lmao.. I have a 75g that I've been pulling my hair out over getting rid of a bad case of Cyano. I'm beating it without antibiotics or chemical treatment, but it's a long long road.
@lycosa2000 If you just set it up then dont worry about the cyano. Check out my vid of my tank and you can see there is some still on the sand. It all went away by itself. It shows up in everyones tank during the initial cycle.
@dcskelton I can answer that if nobody else will. No, get a skimmer. Skimmers remove dissolved organic compounds or DOC's. Your filter will not remove these effectively. DOC's are what Cyanobacteria or Red Slime Algae love. Trust me, once you set up your reef, you will have some. I would say that nuisance algae is why 99% people give up on keeping reef tanks. The better armed you are at removing nutrients from your system when you start, the better off you'll be down the road.
hi if you want to watch the same vid with music and in hd watch it on my account ps coralite is it oright for me to do this if not ill delete it or even send it you i rendered it to hd on sony vegas pro nine and added some tunes
@ohweloveeverton Don't think so. You could probably put together a great tank (120cm) for anout 3000 GBP inc stock. Sorry I don't know what that is in C$. Shop around. Red Sea Max 250?????
love your field of green star polyps haha. i used to have a 40 breeder that was COVERED with them. they can be like a weed if you let them spread to much.. Beautiful reef bro
i dont know anything about coral reef's or any of this.
but I really want to make one, and yours is the perfect example of what I want.
i was just wondering, what do I do? like do they sell those rocks / plant life at stores? I dont understand at all, how you have all those living plants and the rock formations etc. any help would be great.
also, what kind of fish are those bright ones? I love em.
riceer, the hobby is a very expensive and complicated one. You really cant just buy things and put them in your tank and expect your tank to turn out alright. Anyone can do it, but it does take a fair amount of research, and quite a bit of money. I suggest going to a site like reefcentral . com to learn more, if youre genuinely interested.
absouloutely stunning:-) what amazing work and time you have put in to your masterpiece. I am trying too to get where you have got, you can see my effort on here he he: "marek's reef aquarium" but i have a long way to go to get as far as you have!

Could you please tell me the name of that really green coral that looks like grass at 1:15? i want to order in this coral but can't find the name of it anywhere.
Hey impossible thought, just in case caralite didn't respond, I think this coral is called star polyp. His is really dense and more beautiful than usual though. Goodluck.
if you wouldnt mind watching my video and telling me if i could do well with gsp i would totally appreciate it. some quick facts are: 5.5g with 20 watt 50/50 10,000k corallife bulb. the tank is about 9 inches deep. nice song as well.
if you mean do you have to clean them out or do water changes then no they are not and also it depends on the set up and equipment, although you don't have to clean the sand bed out but some people do. they are 20 times harder to look after than a fresh water tank there are so many factors you have to look out for and water changes are a pain. and it's a very expensive hoby? do lots of reading up before you enter this hoby.
i would say most people give up on their tanks after a while because you have to put alot of time into them to keep everything alive when keeping corals.
trust me when i say i have coverd nothing on the subject, there is so much you need to know.
those are green star polyps right? ive been looking at getting some for my tank but the ones i have found are no where near as bright as yours. if you have any suggestions on how to care for them or where i should look to find a good colony that would be great. thanks
nice crocea clam ...they're fun. heard they like it on rocks, because that is where they're found naturally but mine keeps on wanting to go to the sand haha
Fantastic tank BTW. I am setting up a new tank with LED lighting, I have been working hard to put together a combo of white and blue LED's into a matrix which exceeds metal halide and also all other essential requirements, to put all the lighting together is going to cost around AU$ 180.00
Reef tanks are the hardest. If you're getting into the hobby for the first time, I'd reccomend doing a lot of research and starting off with a freshwater tank.
2 QUESTIONS: . . . 1) How many times did you tear down the tank to get it set up like that? . . . 2) How many years did it take you to locate all those corals?
nice! a week ago i bought that gsp and didnt know it will look good as that. It was only $5 from LFS and its a size of a bottle cap. He's doing great on my tank and i can wait for it spread!
Your tank is awesome. New at saltwater aquariums. Have a 29 gallon jbj and recently a purchased a 47 gallon. Now I'm looking for a 100 gallon, at least for my flower shop. Love all the colors
the pet shop either propogates their own or takes in cuttings from other people. what you get is just a very small little twig of coral attached by glue (or something similar) to a hard base, most people use rock or something similar to rock. from there, over time, it grows bigger and branches out. when it gets big you might have to cut off some of your own! good luck =]
I live in Denver and have actually seen this tank in person. It is hands down the most beautiful, colorful, alive tank I have ever seen. Frankly this video doesn't do it justice, and actually the last time I was there the tank had been filled out a little MORE.

What are the purple, orange, and red stuff? Thanks.
Are you sure there are no halides? .28 sec in the reflection on the top...i am pretty sure i see a halide...but anyway the tank is awesome regardless of what light source it is
By The Way, Just How Much Wattage Are You Shooting Into That Tank? What Type Of Lights Are You Using? We Can Rule Out Power Compact, And I'm Guessing Metal Hallide.
I Have A 60 Gal. Reef. Honestly, I'm Jealous. That's Beautiful Man. Your SPS Corals Are Freaking Huge, I'm Dealing With Frags. You Couldn't Have Bought Them That Big Either, They Would Cost Hundreds. Great Job. Love The Anthias. Love The Trumpet. Love Brain. Love The Star Polyps. Love The Wrasse. Don't Know Where You Got The Money Man.
About £2000. You can buy Tank £1000, Skimmer £230, Calcuim Reactor £240, Heater £25, Live rock £10 per KG, Water Test kits £50, Pump £100 and other stuff. But you would need to read read read about this before jumping in.
Are you a member of "Reef Central" online? If I was more computer savvy I would nominate your tank for the "tank of the month". Hopefully you'll get nominated- your tank outstanding! Thanks for sharing.

By The Way, Just How Much Wattage Are You Shooting Into That Tank? What Type Of Lights Are You Using? We Can Rule Out Power Compact, And I'm Guessing Metal Hallide.

I work there
it might amaze you but this tank is lit completely by T-5's no PC's no halides, there are 2 rows of bulbs i think 6 in each row

I Have A 60 Gal. Reef. Honestly, I'm Jealous. That's Beautiful Man. Your SPS Corals Are Freaking Huge, I'm Dealing With Frags. You Couldn't Have Bought Them That Big Either, They Would Cost Hundreds. Great Job. Love The Anthias. Love The Trumpet. Love Brain. Love The Star Polyps. Love The Wrasse. Don't Know Where You Got The Money Man.

this is a store display tank, that is why money is not to much of a problem

What does it cost to setup a reef tank that size with that much life? I'm looking to start one soon
tjneufeld 4 years ago
About £2000. You can buy Tank £1000, Skimmer £230, Calcuim Reactor £240, Heater £25, Live rock £10 per KG, Water Test kits £50, Pump £100 and other stuff. But you would need to read read read about this before jumping in.

2000 pounds, with that kind of live stock..think that's a little on the low side..I would think at least 5000..outstanding tank!!

Are you a member of "Reef Central" online? If I was more computer savvy I would nominate your tank for the "tank of the month". Hopefully you'll get nominated- your tank outstanding! Thanks for sharing.
